Windows 7 hangs--partially and intermittently.
by Guest MannyJargon- 0 replies

I'm not sure how to accurately describe the symptoms. My system is having a problem where it won't let me click on things or move windows around. I can always move the cursor/arrow around the screen, and I can almost always click on desktop items to open files and programs. The most frequent symptom is that I can't click on the Start button or other items in the quick launch bar or notification area. Sometimes I can't even move the arrow into the bottom portion of the screen with these items. And frequently I can't click on any options within a window or even the shutdown options on the log-in screen. On some occasions, I can't click on the "Next" button on a dialog windo…

Media Player 12 on Windows 7 found half my iTunes album
by Guest Kim LG- 0 replies
I have my iTunes library added to my Media Player Library (and NOT vice versa). Media Player is my preferred program for media. I recently bought two albums in iTunes. One of them shows up fine and complete in Media Player. The other one has 15 tracks, and Media Player found tracks 1, 6, 12, 13, 14 and 15, but not the rest. When I look at the files in the iTunes library, all are there and playable. They are all in the same directory, and clearly Media Player found that directory, as it found some of the songs. Does anyone have any idea what might be going on here? Continue reading...

Q's About Practical Side Of Being Classed As Trojan
by Guest joecu- 0 replies

I moved a file from another drive to a temp folder on my C: drive, which MSE scans in real time, hoping to install it if there was no warning; but MSE immediately quarantined it and said it is a "Trojan Win32/Meredrop" with an Alert Level "Severe" and a recommendation to delete it. I 'll take MSE at its word on what this is but it is the only utility I can think of offhand that does what this one claimed for itself--making a text or HTML list of the files (or the files or type of files I want) contained in an XP Windows Explorer folder--a feature I wish Explorer had natively. This particular situation raises for me corrolary general questions of principle: Because o…

Scanning attached photos in email
by Guest LindaKay909114- 0 replies
I have a gmail account and every time I try to open an attached photo that someone sends to me, I get the message "virus scan failed." I even tried sending a photo to myself and it did the same thing. I know the photo I sent to myself doesn't have a virus attached, because it's on my desktop and has passed daily virus scans for weeks. I tried all the suggestions given by Google on this, but nothing has worked. Any suggestions? Continue reading...

Recently I have started experiencing that my laptop has become very slow to respond...very slow....I ran Microsoft safety scanner but it doesnot detect any virus etc....while checking at one place it takes a long time and even the time elapsed counter stops but later it continues to the end and says no problem detected. Where the scanner slows down it is at directory windows/system/sysWOW641/msxmi3.dll etc... Is this a legitimate windows folder or some virus I am wondering... Posing the question is this causing the laptop to slow down inordinately or some other problem.. request for help / advice thanking in advance Shashi Continue reading...

Hi, Just registered and the welcome message suggested I introduce myself here. I've been using Linux for a long time now. A long time ago I used to dual boot win98 and Mandrake then SuSe. Then I did similar with XP and Debian. Then I just had Debian with no windows (because I'd stopped using it). I tried some distro based on Debian for a while. Forgot its name. Then I switched to Ubuntu which I used for a few years. Its what I still use at work. Then I tried Xubuntu and finally Linux Mint XFCE. Right now I have a project to set up a machine with Slackware, but appear to be struggling for various reasons. Still I tend to persevere... Agent M of the M.'.I.'.B.'…

Unresponsive USB keyboard upon installation
by Guest AgentM- 0 replies

Just installed Slackware 14.1 32bit on a new machine. (I tried 64 bit first, which worked fine, but I had problem getting drivers for a usb wifi dongle as they had 32bit specific code). During the installation process the keyboard worked fine after selecting 'Qwerty.uk'. But once the install completed and I rebooted into the command line login, the keyboard was completely unresponsive, even pressing the 'numlk' would not cause the number lock led to come on. I reinstalled a second time and same problem. Keyboard worked during install but became unresponsive after install. Anyone got any ideas what can cause this? And what I can do about it? I've an older version …

php simpleXML :parsing an osm-file
by Guest sayhello- 0 replies

I am new to PHP's SimpleXML. The original version of this question was derived from here: OSM Data parsing to get the nodes with child I am thankful that hakre offered a great example in the comments that makes a overwhelming starting point for my project. Below I have added my own answer to the question, how to refine the code to ad more tags. I want to filter the data to get the nodes with special category. Here is sample of the OSM data I want to get the whole schools within an area. The first script runs well - but now I want to refine the search and add more tags. I want to store all into MySQL. So we need to make some XML parsing with PHP: The followi…

by Guest Rich Edmonds- 0 replies
Apple has announced that in rare cases the Apple 5W European USB power adapter may overheat, which could work itself into a safety risk. This particular adapter came with the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S models shipped between October 2009 to September 2012 in select countries. The company is offering to replace faulty chargers with replacements free of charge. First thing's first. You need to determine whether or not you have an affected charger. Check the image below and see if the color of the letters "CE" are in solid gray and you have the model number A1300. If so, you'll need to exchange this charger for a new one, which will have "CE" outlined in gray an…

Facebook has rolled out another update for its Messenger app on iOS. The social network has implemented instant video sharing and the ability to send 'big likes' to friends in the conversation, just in case you happen to really like something. This latest update brings the app up to version 6.0, with 5.0 introducing the sending of video, alongside enhancements to photo sharing and more. The new video sharing feature brings the Messenger app in line with what Snapchat offers. It's now possible to shoot and play 15-second video messages from the camera straight into the conversation. Why communicate via text when video is available? It's also designed with the selfie i…

Hi guys, i just restored to factory settings, my "OLD" computer which had Windows Xp Professional HP. For some reason, the computer will start, however, it just stays on a black, blank screen, and does absolutely nothing, could someone advise to what i should do? The reason i did this is, because when i wanted to download something, the previous owner had used it in a business, so the administration password needed to be known and was also set up to a server. Therefore i wanted to restart so i have complete control over what happens with the computer. Continue reading...

WINDOWS UPDATE
by Guest Louise Porter- 0 replies
Recently I received an update notice to download for Windows. There were 2 downloads. As the download (initialized) I read the names of what was being downloaded (which I rarely do because they're usually numbers). Anyway, the first download was "Security Update for Microsoft Office 7 (KB2878233)" and the second was "Window Malicious Software Removal Tool - June 2014 (KB 890830)." What make these two downloads so suspicious is 1) I don't have Microsoft Office 7 loaded on my computer--I have an old copy of XP Professional and 2) Why would I be getting a download from Windows when they stop supporting XP in April 2014. I called MS and spoke with some tech in their c…
