MYSTERY USB MOUSE(S) INTERMITTENTLY WORKING NOW STOPPED WORKING
by Guest susiedancer- 0 replies
This is an ongoing problem. I have been all over google, microsoft forums, and even the 4 year olds on youtube. Nothing works so far. Here is the situation: Dell Insprion 64-bit about 4 years old, Windows 7. Was using my original infallable Dell USB corded mouse. Then it started to only work intermittently, and stop for periods of time, on and off. So I bought a new (cheap) wireless mouse and it would jump around crazy and/or delay uselessly so I set it aside. Then the Dell worked again just fine for a period of time. Then it stopped. So I bought another (cheap) corded mouse. It worked great until it, too started working only intermittently and stopping for p…

Take a look at the following screenshot. Is that normal or what? Since 5 hours, the Windows Defender has scanned only that much and it is still continuing. How much time does it take to complete the scanning? (The one from the above image) Should I abort the scanning or wait until the scanning finishes? Note that I won't abort the scan until someone replies to this thread and asks me to abort. I am using Windows 8.1 SL x64 Suggestions please. Continue reading...

Recently I downloaded a virus that did various things to my computer. After looking online for help, I decided to clean the registry of my computer. Downloaded Registry Reviver, ran it. Downloaded CCleaner, ran it. The virus seems to be out of my computer. I ran malwarebytes anti-malware program and did a full computer scan. The program did whatever it needed to. My computer is still doing some strange things. I can't search for programs in the Start menu only other files and folders associated with the program come up, the folders in the start menu all programs all say empty. Another problem is that when I copy programs from Program Files (x86) to the des…

Scanning attached photos in email
by Guest LindaKay909114- 0 replies

I have a gmail account and every time I try to open an attached photo that someone sends to me, I get the message "virus scan failed." I even tried sending a photo to myself and it did the same thing. I know the photo I sent to myself doesn't have a virus attached, because it's on my desktop and has passed daily virus scans for weeks. I tried all the suggestions given by Google on this, but nothing has worked. Any suggestions? Continue reading...

Update-Alternatives: Setting Browser to Auto mode
by Guest G-Known- 0 replies
Here's my current config settings for my browser: Code: Selection Path Priority Status ------------------------------------------------------------ 0 /usr/bin/google-chrome-stable 200 auto mode 1 /usr/bin/google-chrome-stable 200 manual mode * 2 /usr/bin/iceweasel 70 manual mode You can see that chrome has higher priority and has auto mode with it, so any links that I touch will open the iceweasel browser. But Wireshark's links opens up to Google. Is there a way to giveiceweasel higher priority and let it enable auto mode. I've tried using the auto function, says…

Installing programs with persistence mode
by Guest Vladimiravich- 0 replies

I installed ubuntu with persistence on a 16gb flash drive. It boots up on computers and when it's turning on I can press f6 and then type persistent to make it run in persistence mode. It runs but when I try to install a program in that mode it doesn't install anything and gives me an error. Here's exactly what I typed: sudo apt-get synaptic What it returns is first asks for password and I type it in and then press enter then it prints out: E: Invalid operation synaptic I tried the same command without the "sudo" but it did the same exact thing except it didn't ask for password. I know synaptic is a valid command because I installed it the same exact way on an…

SSH Linux->Windows with Cygwin and X11
by Guest kokosek- 0 replies

Hello. I want to be able to execute programs from Linux on Windows XP in LAN with Cygwin+X11 on Windows. I'm able to ssh, change files on Windows, display e.g. xclock in my computer from Windows but I can't display anything in Windows (e.g. notepad). The sshd service is running on Windows and I've started X11 as well (with startxwin.exe). After writing in command line "xclock" a clock is displayed on my computer. When I write: Code: DISPLAY=:0.0 ...and then write: Code: xclock & ...it's not displayed on my screen and I can see it running in "ps" (processes list). I can't see it, though, on the remote computer with Windows. I'm sshing like this: C…

C library IW - Network scan: how to retrive auth types of a network?
by Guest webking- 0 replies
Hi all, I am working on a small C program that should be able to scan for wifi networks and give JSON output. I know the same thing might be acheived by using iwlist (compiled binary) by parsing the output and assemble it into a json string within a shell script, but for computational needs, I want to use plain C. To do so, I am now using iwlib.c and json.c libraries. I was able to use the iw_scan() function and retrive a list of networks. However, I can only get ESSID, signal quality and some other info, but nothing about AUTHENTICATION TYPE. What I need is to know which auth type does that AP require. Which methods of IW lib whould I use? Thankl you, Albe…

New Twitter feature allows you to embed tweets within your tweets
by Guest Harish Jonnalagadda- 0 replies
Twitter is testing a new feature that allows you to embed tweets within your tweets, provided you're using the official Twitter client for iOS. To embed a tweet, you have to copy the link to the tweet and paste it in the text box of the app. The feature gives you the ability to add your own opinion about the tweet you're embedding, which isn't the case with the retweet option. The embedded tweets (for now) aren't visible in the web interface and seem to be limited to the mobile app. To view the embed boxes, you have to click on the individual tweet, as the timeline still shows the embedded tweets as a URL. Currently, it looks like Twitter is testing the feature…

Apple improves app discovery in the App Store with new 'Browse by category' option
by Guest Chris Parsons- 0 replies
For as long as the App Store has existed, Apple has been looking for ways to improve app discovery. Over the years there has been several improvements and it's come time for yet another. As announced on Twitter yesterday but seemingly only rolled out to the majority of users today, Apple has improved the 'browse by category' option. The option was always there to browse by category but it was a bit buried behind menus and wasn't exactly visually appealing or user friendly. The new way of doing things not only looks better but feels more functional as well. If you fire up the App Store now you should see the new options showing for you, and the best part is it applies…

Apple Maps in iOS 8: Explained
by Guest Rene Ritchie- 0 replies

There were a lot of hopes and rumors leading up to WWDC 2014 about improvements and enhancements to Apple's Maps in iOS 8. So now that the keynote has come and gone and the dust has settled, how are Maps doing and, more importantly, where are they taking us? Previously on Maps... The original iOS maps app was powered by Google's data. A couple of years ago that relationship became untenable and so Apple began sourcing alternative data and rebuilt a new Maps app for iOS 6. It lost features like public transit directions and Street View but gained features like turn-by-turn navigation and Flyover. There were also problems with the initial data cleansing and aggregat…

New computer win8 keeps asking me to "VERIFY" my microsoft .net or something
by Guest wadebednarick- 0 replies
I assume it is the hotmail account; I don't know what else. I have never had any other kind of Microsoft anything. I cannot do as the process asks because the only email address it will accept to send verification code to is also a Hotmail account then when I try to access it the same thing happens. It wants me to verify that one too. When I used the "text to my phone" method the code does not work. this is a brand new computer there is no one else ever using it. Always at home. This is soooooo stupid that I cannot use my own brand new computer because of a HOTMAIL or .Net complication. Is the only reason we ever buy Windows computers to untangle Microsoft issues. …
