Simply enough, can someone from Microsoft back up Windows 8/8.1's claim in writing that the full factory restore does a 1 pass overwrite, reformat and re-install's a 100% factory OS installation without transferring any end-user data? I have installed a set of Pioneer speakers to my laptop. I can't get it to recognize. I have this problem since I installed, but was able to simply unplug and plug back in. I use my Yahoo email account to log in to Microsoft and for the calendar app on Window 8. My husband is trying to share his Outloook calendar from his work account with me. When he sends me a Share Request to my yahoo mail account, it does not sync with my calendar app. Our IT help guy says this is because while I am logging in with my yahoo email account to Windows 8/Microsoft, it is actually a Hotmail calendar. Hello! I own a 22 inch widescreen monitor, an ACER AL1714 to be exact. Previously, my monitor was working fine. But right after a power outage, as soon as it was over, my monitor flashed to life and said "auto-adjust" and now it looks blurry. Now, I'm not really sure what the problem is and I've tried looking for answers everywhere. Before, the desktop background completely filled the monitor screen, but now it's cut off, as if the screen's been magnified. And as the title suggests, the monitor just looks a lot more blurry and not as it usually was. I've system restored, changed the screen refresh to 75, made sure the monitor is on 32-bit, but nothing is working. …

I downloaded and installed a font, and it is showing up in my fonts directory and in all my programs, but it always displays as the program's default font. Tried closing and re-opening programs, uninstalling and reinstalling the font, etc. I don't think it's a problem with the font file, as I know other people have used it. Continue reading...

I need help finding what and where do I go to adjust the time it takes to download something. Before my computer shuts down the download, due to it reaching its preselected option which I preselected and want to switch back. Im having trouble finding that. Now a days too many threats are around us on the internet. All antiviruses are updating to their latest malware definitions to detect malware more accurately. But on the other hand, Antivirus of Microsoft is still in its lowest score, position to detect. All antivirus products have better results than Microsoft's. Why is this so ? I "googled" the file and learned that it has to do with "music/toolbar". I have not knowingly downloaded that nor could I find it listed in the Control Panel "uninstall/install" options. Likewise, I could not find the apctldr.dll find in a general search of the hard drive. The problem is severely annoying but seems not to prevent me doing anything. The annoyance is that there is a series of 2 pop-ups, the first requires me to choose to block the riskware. A second popup then requires to choose between losing it or getting more details. dear sir .2 weeks ago while looking at the junk file ,the p c turned off & never worked normal again. I have a iMovie project with 4:3 (SD) and 16:9 (HD) footage. I tried to export it (convert it) into QT. I selected "maintain screen format" ( I guess!) but the 16:9 frames are converted (changed) to 4:3 clips. I cannot figure out which (advanced option??) choice I have to make to get it right. I want the 16:9 clips to stay 16:9 in the QT movie or mp4 movie. BTW what is the best setting if I want the best possible picture quality (mpeg4, QT movie, advanced setting?) If I choose "full picture quality" in the "export movie" screen the quality is not very good (too much compression, as you can also see e.g. the 'size' of the movie after the conversion) I still work w…

Hi all, I'm out in the backwoods so several months ago, I installed satellite internet. The first hour I was on the net, my machine was hacked. Following some commands I read about on Linux security, the IP address of the hacker resolved to the middle east. I've been using various flavors of Linux for a decade and never encountered anything like this. I immediately engaged a firewall by enabling UFW. I modified the sysctrl.conf for stop ping responses and to engage additional firewall protections. Still, I'd encounter some weirdness from time to time. Hi All, I've a folder on my user folder that is shared using samba (shared with everyone), and works ok. I've a secondary 2TB disk formatted with ext4, and a folder on it that I want to share. My problem is that as soon as I share it with Samba (shared with everyone) it un-shares itself automatically. I suspect that it's a problem is caused by the rights on this secondary disk. I've use chown to take ownership on the disk: sudo chown -R elhtpc /media/elhtpc/STORE And I've also try chmod: sudo chmod -R 777 /media/elhtpc/STORE Problem persists.
