Motherboard Recommendation(s)?
by Guest deanimator- 0 replies
I inherited a machine from a customer who recently replaced it with a new machine. I had intended to use it as a light duty Samba and personal web server, but I've had enough problems with it (it stopped recognizing keyboards a couple of days ago) and Ubuntu 14.04 (refuses to reboot under 14.04) that I'm losing patience with this "free" machine. I'm looking for a recommendation for a replacement MB to meet that light duty Samba and personal web server role. Basic requirements: AMD compatible (recommend a processor too, please) ATX form factor 4 memory slots Pci-e slot(s) onboard video maximum Ubuntu 14.04 compatibility I've already got the RAID card and driv…

by Guest Montana68- 0 replies
Hello All I installed Ubuntu 14.04 on one of my laptops. When I tried to find firestarter it was not there and found out that it is no longer available. Can anyone tell me what has replaced it? I will need instructions on how to set it up and how to use it. Can anyone tell me if I can still use it on my other laptop which has it installed already? I don't understand why they got rid of it since it worked so good.It was also easy to set up but I used the default settings which worked fine. I'm asking for help to set it up because I'm still what I would call a newbie. Thank you for your help in advance. Montana Continue reading...

If your iPhone 5 isn't charging anymore, it could be that third party cable you're using
by Guest Allyson Kazmucha- 0 replies
Have an iPhone 5 that won't seem to charge past 1% or boot up at all anymore after the battery was completely depleted? It seems that you aren't alone. According to UK repair company mendmyi, who has seen an influx of iPhone 5's with this particular issue, the problem is a prime example of why you shouldn't use cheap cables to charge your iPhone. While we all hear the warnings about using cheap chargers and USB cables, we all know that not everyone will listen. In this particular case, cheap chargers and cables are damaging the U2 IC chip that sits on the logic board of the iPhone 5. This particular chip controls the charge to the battery, the sleep/wake button, and …

by Guest Derek Kessler- 0 replies

The latest iWatch reports have pegged down more specs for the upcoming Apple smartwatch. The watch is reported to be to starting production in July, with a launch set for October (which is right about when we expect to see the iPhone 6). Quanta Computer of Taiwan is said to be the primary manufacturer for the Apple wearable, accounting for 70% of the final assembly of an anticipated 50 million units. That's a lot of iWatches. Says Reuters: Apple will introduce a smartwatch with a display that likely measures 2.5 inches diagonally and is slightly rectangular, one of the sources said. The source added that the watch face will protrude slightly from the band, crea…

I am using WIN XP PRO SP 3,.0 32 bit....browser is Firefox, with Password Manager add-on.... I am asking this on the forum because I couldn't get into Microsoft Corp to look for advice, it wouldn't let me log in, I use this site a lot, as I like to see if there is a fix for my problem first. It just kept bring me back to the same page, asking me to sign in, no 'did you forget your password' or 'create a new account' on this page..... What do I do now? Mind you if there were another option other than to use Microsoft, I would be happy, as I find their instructions NOT very user friendly....but if I have a problem I feel obliged to start there, just in the vague …

Also, how do I do it, I need detailed instructions, I find the on-line Microsoft official instructions hard to follow, which is why I came to the forum.... One mo…

Extremely slow performance on Acer AO722 netbook
by Guest BJTrivedi- 0 replies

I am using an Acer Model AO722 netbook with 2.0 GB RAM 9 (1.73 GB usable) and Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) OS. The system is current with all Windows updates. Over the last 2-3 weeks the system performance has degraded dramatically. Here are the symptoms: Very slow responses to mouse driven button clicks, from seconds to minutes. For longer delays the system just freezes, does not accept any mouse or key-board inputs. Eventually it achieves the desired action, but this is very annoying and frustrating. The problem seems worse when multiple browser based applications are open (we use Chrome and Firefox). I have taken the following corrective steps: …

Event and AMMYY Scare
by Guest Norm Mandy- 0 replies

Microsoft does not randomly call people to "fix" their "Errors", and errors on your computer have nothing to do with Microsoft's servers. I almost fell for this scam because (like everyone, I suppose) I had some error messages and some script problems with Flash off and on. I had gone to Microsoft to find help on Flash issues and had even used FIXIT; but the result was a message that it couldn't fix it. Voila! A couple of days later I get a call from someone at Microsoft calling to "fix" my errors! How cool is that! He had me check and type in the START search box and brought up an EVENT screen and WOW! --- there were tons of error messages! The technician (…
