Unending trouble updating Windows Defender on x64/Win8.1
by Guest syckofviruses- 0 replies

Windows Defender update just fails, and WIndows defender never starts. I have tried: resetting everything (%temp%, %windir%\temp and SoftwardDistribution). No luck - fails (8007002) Doing same logged in as administrator - same results Running the update from an administrative command prompt - nothing happens Running some exe (there was information in a related thread that I replied to, but it seems to have been purged) which says, "Sorry, no can do as the service isn't running". Some exe that took a -resetdefinition flag, unfortunately lost the info. Most frustrating. This is all WIndows Defender and WIndows update stepping on each other, i.e,, I hav…

Defender does not appear to be removing viruses or malware downloaded with games?
by Guest DorotheaMartin- 0 replies

This is the same problem I had previously had to reset my computer back to it's first day and start again. Something is destroying files and I did run across the apps like Facebook just has an x on it and doesn't work. Do I need to uninstall and reinstall again? Why isn't defender catching any of this. It says everything is fine. Should I download a malware program in addition like bit? Should I download Microsoft Security Essentials? I have Windows Version 8.1. Continue reading...

I have the same issue that recently appeared, after I had inadvertently downloaded something that installed the Trovi malware in my computer. I was able to remove Trovi, however, these sites started automatically opening up in a new tab whenever I'm browsing the internet: www.big-countries.net www.how-internet-works.com www.how-internet-works.net www.the-top-sport.com www.biggest-sites.pl All of the sites have similar appearance as the screenshot posted above, but different content. At the base of each site, it states (example from biggest-site): © www.biggest-sites.pl - All rights reserved - 2014 Generated by EVP I've tried to find out what …

Tracking ip adresses
by Guest rjw409- 0 replies

Hello, I am a pretty new user of Linux. I am in my 2nd college course for it right now and I need to do a small project for the class. I am trying to find out if there are any tools to track ip addresses that access a webserver. The idea would be to track the ip address of Comcast users and Verizon users to determine what companies' users are accessing more often for the purpose of marketing. I would assume it would involve saving the report to a file and then searching the file for the specified info for each internet provider. any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! by Guest Harish Jonnalagadda- 0 replies

Skype announced in a blog post today that older versions of its desktop client for Mac will be discontinued "over the next few months." The change is said to facilitate feature compatibility across different clients and ensure that new additions, like the ability to send messages to offline contacts, are available to a broader category of users. As such, Skype will discontinue support for version 6.14 and below over the coming months. If you're on a version that is being retired, you can go ahead and download the latest version of Skype for Mac (6.18) from the official website. The change is only being carried out for desktop versions and will not affect Skype for…

Anyone know how to install a crummy webcam?
by Guest Mary Bern- 0 replies

Does anyone know how to install a crummy webcam using window xp? I have a new monitor without a webcam installed. I go to the "free" webcam download website. It states click on download and follow the instructions such as click on run or allow, then click on run again, but all it does is download the software and ask if I want an icon on my desktop. I click on yes. When I click on the icon, all it does is open and ask me if I want to install the software I just installed. There is not window with run or allow so I just go in circles trying to find it. It might say something like double click on the gray panel, but nothing happens. There's a box where whatever you're taki…
