Remote Desktop Connection and printing issues
by Guest Clement Jhun- 0 replies

Hi, I am using Windows 7 on my desktop and also connected to Windows Server 2008 R2 to run applications in Windows Server. However, I noted there is problem with the printer issues. Sometimes, when I tried to print some documents using applications in Windows Server with my local printer in my room connected to desktop, it won't work. Moreover, I need to go to Windows Server, Component Service to restart printer spooler so it will work again. This is a pain. I also noticed there is about 30 seconds wait to process any document to print. Unlike if I print documents directly from my local desktop computer running Windows 7 and connected to local printe…

Optical mouse erratically defaults to bottom of screen
by Guest SamSlyme- 0 replies

Very often but not always the optical mouse (USB connected or wireless makes no difference) defaults to the bottom of the screen or the last item on the desktop and refuses to budge. If I try to move it up it immediately jumps back to the bottom. The only way to fix this is to switch computer off and on, which usually works but sometimes not. Continue reading...

Hi all, I'm trying to help a friend who seems to have got himself infected with something. It's an HP desktop PC - running windows 7 home premium. Protected by a paid up subscription to Norton 360. He's behind a BTHomeHub router/firewall. Symptoms (when in Safe Mode with Networking or normal start up): Can't connect to windows update Can't connect to www.grc.com (was going to check for open ports) Can't get to download page for MS Security Essentials. Other web sites (bing/google/Microsoft.com) are accessible It feels like something is hooking into the web requests and making them fail. So if this happening even in safe mode with network…

Which distro for old latpop?
by Guest musicboyben- 0 replies
Hi all :) I have an old Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop(2GB RAM, 32bit) currently running Windows vista. I say running, crawling would be a more accurate description. I would like to remove Vista and install a Linux distro, primarily to make things faster. Any recommendations for which distro? I was going to go for Lubuntu, but was wondering whether you reckon it would be up to Ubuntu, or anything else you could suggest, for that matter. Just looking for some opinions and help for a Linux beginner. Thanks in advance. Continue reading...

RHEL6 ssh cannot start a remote background process
by Guest ndrw_cheung- 0 replies
Hi. Im using RHEL6 (version 6.5) on all servers and I came across a problem invoking a process in the background via ssh. The set up is as follows: Server 1 : Script : start.sh: #!/bin/sh ssh user1_AT_x.x.x.x t sudo /etc/init.d/test1 #note : I cannot post the "at" sign due to being a new user, so _AT_ is the at sign Server 2 : Script : /etc/init.d/test1: #!/bin/sh ./runremote.sh & user1 exist on both server 1 and server 2 has sudo privileges. When we do (logged in as user1 and sudo on server 1)./start.sh from Server 1, the script runremote.sh is NOT invoked. I tried removing the & to run runremote.sh in the foreground. That works, but…

iFixit tears down the new 16GB iPod touch
by Guest John Callaham- 0 replies
Any time a new Apple product — like the just-updated 16GB iPod touch — gets released, it's a safe bet a tear-down will follow. The tear down will show two things: what new parts Apple has managed to cram inside, and what old parts they've kept along for the ride. Not surprisingly, for the price-reduced iPod touch, we're getting entirely the latter. This is the same iPod touch Apple introduced in 2012 alongside the iPhone 5, just stripped down to 16GB of NAND Flash storage. Here's iFixit with the details: Apple A5 dual-core processor, with 4 Gb (512 MB) of Elpida Mobile DDR2 RAM Toshiba THGBX3G7D2KLA0C 128 Gb (16 GB) NAND flash Apple 338S1064-B1 dialog power manageme…

Captain America: The Winter Soldier goes free as Apple's App of the Week
by Guest Chuong H Nguyen- 0 replies
Apple has selected Captain America: The Winder Soldier as its App of the Week this week, which means that the Gameloft developed game will be available as a free download through the App Store. In the game, users will take on the role of Captain America as they lead the S.H.I.E.L.D. team to battle criminal organizations. Though the game itself is free, the app contains in-app purchases that vary in price. According to the App Store description, users can buy credits as in-app purchases as well and those can get pricey. Among the top ten in-app purchases, you can get a "stockpile of credit" for a whopping $49.99 so be careful how much you buy even though this is a fre…

Windows XP Product Key problems
by Guest ScottFrizell- 0 replies

A friend gave me her old Toshiba laptop before she moved to Hawai'i. Before giving it to me she of course wiped the computer however it seems that this damaged the product key as well. The laptop will not accept the product key on the back and my friend hasn't got the recovery disk any longer. I called MS about this matter and get the standard response that they do not support Windows XP any longer. ( Personal Note Here (12 years or not products should be supported for 20 because some people get hand downs and buy from thrift stores and obtain GENUINE WINDOW PRODUCTS other ways XP still worked pretty well as of April 8th, 2014 and for what I can read on the forum…

Dear Ma/Sir, i have a Acer Aspire V5 which i just bought its been running perfectly until yesterday i noticed that an error message (driver irql less than equal) will just pop up and the system will restart. so when i googled the error message i saw a few option that talked about identifying a driver or software that may be causing the restart, so i downloaded Blue Screen. when i ran the crash analysis using blue screen viewer, i saw CI.dll+1101b67, ntoskrnl.exe+7b340, ndis.sys+33b67, pdc.sys+cfbb67 on the Caused By Driver column. Please what do i do? expecting your response.. Dominic Continue reading...

update errors
by Guest dixr_at_Hotmail- 0 replies

My first comment is that when you click for LIVE HELP, it tells you that you have to go to the community. Microsoft lies again.. Now, When I run Windows Updates, I get an error on "Security update for Microsoft Silverlight KB2932677" (Code 64C). It has been failing for many weeks. I ran the automated trouble shooter and I got three not fixed, one detected and two fixed (which show up as "fixed" time after time when I re-run the trouble shooter. Lack of confidence in that "Fixed".) Not fixed: "Windows Update Error 0x80070005 (2014-06-27-T-02,12,52P)" "Problems installing recent updates" "Problems installing recent updates" Detected: "Check for m…
