This thread is about what add-ons you use, and the pro and cons of some add-ons. Mine currently are: Adblock Edge British English Dictionary [my native tongue dictionary is to be found at Dictionaries, not Addons, as it should. Dunno why in Firefox and in Pale Moon the en-UK dict. is listed as add-on...] Flash Video Downloader Ghostery Google Privacy Lastpass NoScript Suspend Tab Adblock Edge, Lastpass and NoScript are the minimal ones I need to install on every Palemoon (or Firefox, if I am not able to change the browser on that system) Adblock not only blocks the annoying, moving, flickering ads, it not even loads the ads, which makes loading of webpages …

Problems with boot, possibly bad SSD?
by Guest Astraeus- 0 replies

Hey everyone. I have an Asus UX31E ultrabook given to me by a friend. It came with Windows 7 but he installed Mint on it. I am unsure of how this problem came about but here is the issue the best I can describe, and what I have tried. On boot you get "error: failure writing to sector 0x6b8a1 to 'hd0' press any key to continue" This stays on the screen for a few seconds and then a box with a padlock pops up. I enter the password and see the Linux Mint logo and the message "cryptsetup: sda5_crypt set up successfully" Almost immediately it drops to BusyBox and (initramfs). I first tried to repair the boot sector thinking maybe it was damaged somehow. I ran Boot-…

SCTP Multihoming Heartbeat ACK Behavior
by Guest lamborghinione- 0 replies
Hello everyone! We are having some issues regarding SCTP multihoming and we would like to ask your opinion on this matter. We have two RHEL6.4 (2.6.32-358.el6.x86_64) machines connected by two L2 switch and a L3 switch (please see "Environment Setup" below). When we execute SCTP connection (using multihoming) between the two machines, the following behavior occurred: HB1.jpg INIT-INIT_ACK, COOKIE_ECHO-COOKIE_ACK handshake occurred in the primary path of both machines which is expected. When a Primary path sends HEARTBEAT to another Primary, HEARTBEAT_ACK was returned to the sender. But when a Primary path sends HEARTBEAT to a Secondary path, the HEARTBEAT_ACK chu…

Apple kicks Aperture (and iPhoto) to the curb; are we ready for Photos?
by Guest Peter Cohen- 0 replies
Apple's plan to kill Aperture (and iPhoto) for Photos will cost it goodwill with Mac-using photography pros During the WWDC 2014 keynote presentation Apple showed off a new app for OS X Yosemite currently in development called Photos. It won't be out until 2015, but it looks like it's going to replace both iPhoto and Aperture on the Mac. This promises to be a good thing for consumers, but where does this leave professional and prosumer photographers on the Mac? On Friday Apple revealed to Jim Dalrymple at The Loop that Aperture, Apple's pro photo app, is being discontinued in favor of Photos. This is a blow to anyone who's depended on Aperture for its organization…

by Guest Allyson Kazmucha- 0 replies
If you own and iPhone or iPad you almost certain have an Apple ID. It's what you use to log into iCloud and iTunes, and it's what a lot of new iOS 8 features like Continuity use to make sure you're you, and to keep your documents and data private and secure. In other words, your Apple ID is important. If you don't use two-step verification enabled — and you really should! — if you forget your password, the only way to reset it is with your security questions. That's why it's a good idea to review your security questions, make sure they're easy to remember for you but not easy to guess for anyone else. by Guest Chris Parsons- 0 replies

Although Apple has now laid Aperture to rest, they did note that development on Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro would continue and to back up that claim, they're now rolling out updates for Final Cut Pro, Motion, Compressor and MainStage through the Mac App Store. The list of features and additions is rather large with Final Cut Pro seeing the most significant changes but Apple has included the full change logs for everyone to check out. Mainstage hasn't appeared in the Mac App Store as of yet, but Apple has confirmed it will be arriving soon. by Guest John Callaham- 0 replies

Audi has confirmed it will be adding support for Apple's CarPlay vehicle technology to some of its models, with plans for a launch sometime in 2015. Audi says that the addition of CarPlay will happen thanks to "intensive dialog between the Audi development lab in Silicon Valley and Apple" and added that major features of CarPlay will be "integrated into the Audi Multi Media Interface." Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Board Member for Technical Development at Audi, stated: User friendliness and low distraction are important parameters for integrating these functions. Data security also plays a vital role. We are separating the vehicle-related functions from the inf…

adding suggested work outs in health and fitness app
by Guest damsel_fly- 0 replies
Is there a way to have the suggested work outs given in health and fitness app be available under exercise tracker? I think it is great that you can find a routine depending on what muscle group(s) you want to target, however there doesn't seem to be a way to add these routines directly to the exercise tracker. Instead, the individual exercises have to be added. This seems like a waste to add the 10+ individual work outs from the routine instead of adding the routine itself. Is there a way to add each routine instead of the individual work outs? Continue reading...

Stuck in an infinite loooop!
by Guest summernatsu- 0 replies

I was resetting my windows 8 PC when there was a city wide powercut. Now when my PC boots it is stuck in an automatic repair loop- it tries to repair itself, restarts, and goes back to trying to fix itself (thats just the start) So I changed my bios settings to boot from my recovery drive to try resetting again, but I cannot reformat my drive - when I try to reformat, nothing happens. I delete the partition, nothing happens. Then I tried to boot into safe mode using command prompt from the recovery drive but I get the reply "the boot configuration data store could not be opened the requested system device cannot be found" So I can't boot normally because of…

"Failure configuring Windows updates, Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer"
by Guest NicholasST- 0 replies

HI, recently(2 days ago) my computer said I needed to restart it so updates could occur. Well I waited and waited, it finally finished but then said Failure configuring Windows updates Reverting changes. I was like um ok? It started to revert but then then the screen went black. I touched my mouse pad and it went back to the loading screen. So I thought I needed to keep touching the pad so the computer screen wouldn't turn off and so I kept doing that for 5 to 6 hours straight! I tried turning it off and on but it kept going to that loading screen. I can't get passed that loading screen either I'm stuck! Oh and yes I took the battery out to see if that would do anyth…

by Guest Douglas Groetzinger- 0 replies

I've been searching on here and I haven't found anyone else with this issue but I can't be the only one. In the event I am the first, my problem is I can't connect to AT&T WiFi public networks; McDonald's being the most common location. It shows up in the list of Wireless Networks but it takes forever for the McDonald's web page to open where it has the box that says something like "Connect to the Internet" or words to that effect. After clicking on that box, eventually a pop-up message appears at the bottom of the page saying the webpage isn't responding; click to refresh it. No matter how many times I try that, nothing happens. I have Windows 8 on a Tos…

It advised that a Dell Inspiron 2400 could be upgraded. I installed an OEM version and the screen resoution only allows 640 x 800 in true color or 1080 x 1200 with 256 colours. Apparently the graphics card can't handle win7. Why did it pass the upgrade test then? I'd be grateful for any help. Continue reading...
