Remove Samsung Magician from Startup
by Guest Siegmund 10- 0 replies
Considering that I've installed Win 8 on a Samsung 840 Pro SSD, I've updated the very essential software provided by Samsung, Magician to the latest version 4.4 The problem is that since this update the program is included to the startup and can't be removed-disabled by Task Manager or by any other option in the software's interface ! The previous version could be removed by Task Manager. This one although Task Manager indicates that it's disabled, it keeps on running automatically with every boot and I need to remove manually from the system tray. Some guide on how to stop it from starting up with every boot would be highly appreciate ! Many thanks in…

Issues with installing windows updates
by Guest nyte36- 0 replies

Original Title: window update failed loop Hi, I recently refreshed my laptop(asus g75vw windows 8) in order to fix issues caused by ultrauxthemepatcher. Worked just fine. I began reinstalling windows updates from a practicality blank drive(had moved most if not all the stuff I had to an external). The updater ran the first batch of updates it found with ease. The second batch coming in at 83 updates failed somewhere in. It began reverting changes. After waiting for it to complete, it restarted only to resume the failing process. It is now on the third fourth loop around... and counting I have read other posts suggesting using the update checker tool, which I wou…

A nonprofit has asked me to configure new Windows 7 computers so that all content is BLOCKED from the hard drive, but any downloads may be downloaded to the individual's flash drive. The nonprofit allows individuals to play games, check e-mails, but we have a problem with them trying to upgrade Firefox, Google, etc. They want all configuration to the DEFAULT STATUS after a person log off the computer....no upgrades to any programs! I will occasionally upgrade programs once a month or so, as the volunteer administrator. They have changed the controls from Windows ME and XP...anyone help me, please? Continue reading...

I have tried several times to create a 300 to 500 Gb virtual drive and then attach it through the Disk management window. Every time I do this it will successfully create the VHD but will not attach. I get an error "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable" In addition I can not delete the VHD without a computer reboot since it's being accessed by the "System" process ( PID 4 ) Any ideas? Change image order in Windows Photo Viewer?
by Guest TheCount897- 0 replies
I was wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to change to order Windows Photo Viewer loads images in? To clarify, when using a large (or whatever size) icon view in a folder, when I hit the 'next' or 'previous' button, rather than displaying the image to the left or right of the current one, Photo Viewer loads the one above or beneath it. Basically the program is reading from top to bottom in vertical columns, rather than left to right in a horizontal line. Is there any way to fix this? Continue reading...

BSOD irql_not_equal_or_less on startup after running Driver Verifier
by Guest jeffreycordero- 0 replies
Before I start, every blue screen I get is a irql_not_equal_or_less and I have run memtest on my ram cards with no issues. Also I am using 64bit Windows 7. For a while now I have been having some problems with blue screens on my computer when I am turning it off or into sleep and sometimes during startup. Well I mostly fixed it by updating multiple drivers on my computer like my intel graphics driver. After that it really only blue screened when I tried to put it into sleep mode. Yet recently I tried re-downloading league-of-legends and every time it would blue screen near the end of the download. Thus to fix this I searched on the windows help forum and found the …

I have 2 winlogon.exe running. Is it a Virus or Malware? (Windows 8.1)
by Guest SamoPepsi- 0 replies

I have 2 winlogon.exe running, I see both of them running when I click on the "Details Tab". Is this a problem? I know you're not supposed to have 2 running in most cases, but when I go to properties of the files, they were both created at the same time, on the same day and are the same size. Both are located in C:\Windows\System32 and when I click "Open file location" they lead to the exact same file. I also have 3 csrss.exe running. Some Info: -I have run scans with both Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and AVG Antivirus, and both scans came up clear of any infections. -I only have one user on this PC. -I am running Windows 8.1. -Computer is really new (2 days…

Hi all, I have the Lenovo laptop the brought to me with the windows 8 64 bits. On the last few weeks, the notepad icon changes on the windows tools ruler, and it looks as usual on the windows desktop (even if I delete it and produce a new one). After running a few time my anti-virus program (Symantec…) without any results people told me to check/fix the problem with the sfc.exe program. My problem is as follows: When I am running the sfc.exe program as administrator. I see that the windows opens a new small window that asks my permission to run the program and make changes on the window I am pressing yes. Then it opens a few windows and I see that my…

messed up computer (10.9.3) after migration to SSD - permissions or java problem?
by Guest roninsmurf- 0 replies
thanks in advance for reading! I have a doozy: I moved my hdd to my optibay and installed a new SSD into my main hdd bay (mbp late 2011) transferred data from hdd to ssd using superduper so the ssd is now a clone of the old hdd (and in the same place as the old hdd) and the ssd is the startup BUT seems permissions are wonky? not sure what it is. possibly java is a problem -- maybe via permissions? here's the symptoms: browsers/finder work great (faster with ssd) but MANY apps just wont load or are wonky. bluestacks won't load-- wont even get to the "loading" animation... (have re-installed numerous times) metasearch on vuze won't work -- I see it for 7 seconds…

Hi, I have a major issue with screen rendering, when showing some window that has multiple tabs like firefox or settings of something the view gets stuck and doesn't refresh the current display so unless i move my mouse over it or move the window or something it doesn't show the current view, sometimes even when scrolling. I'm Running Xfce with Compiz but i think the issue is with the drivers, i have a gtx570 card and when i disabled the nvidia drivers and installed the Nouveau driver i didn't have these issues so something in the nvidia drivers is causing that. Any ideas? Continue reading...

Choosing a Linux Distribution + Software for a HTPC
by Guest ryanflucas- 0 replies
I have acquired a few of these custom built minipc type systems called Enano E2. From what I've been able to gather, they were fairly pricey and pitted against the Apple Mac Mini. I'm trying to see what I can use them for and figured I'd give them a shot as HTPC's. Specs: Intel Core Duo 1.8GHZ, 2GB Ram, 80GB 2.5" 5400rpm hard disk, Panasonic slot loading DVDRW. They are expandable with two mini pci-e slots. One has installed antenna cables for adding a WIFI module. The other has a installed cable for connecting to a TV tuner. I haven't touched those ports yet. External ports include DVI, 4 USB 2.0, Ethernet, Firewire, SVideo. Standard audio jacks like audio in, mic in,…

Hi guys, this is my first post here so, hi! :) I'm stuck in this piece of code found in a library, as far as i understood it should read a value from memory(RAM) and return it. I fired up google and got my self up and running with almost all the functions but there're some lines that i still don't understand, here is the C code: Code: uint32_t readl(uint32_t addr) { static volatile uint32_t *gpio_vaddr ; int fd = 0; uint32_t val = 0; fd = open("/dev/mem", O_RDWR | O_NDELAY); if(-1 == fd){ printf("open /dev/mem failed."); return -1; } uint32_t mmap_base = (addr & ~MAP_MASK); uint32_t mmap_seek = ((add…
