You can also access Spotlight to quickly search for apps, content, and more, and invoke Multitasking, Notification Center, Control Center, Siri, and more. Editor's note: The following is a post from Jennifer Warnick, a writer for microsoft.com/stories Here we go again with another one of those “a guy goes to Web design school, becomes a blues musician instead, takes a job in a cruise ship piano lounge, and is discovered on the high seas and recruited by Microsoft” stories. Yawn. Cliché. Tale as old as time, right? No? Let’s try that again. A guy walks into a bar. The guy is Bryan Roper, and the bar is Egg Bar in Davos, Switzerland. “You see that a lot in Europe – places with names like ‘Sports Land Restaurant,’” Roper said. Since all of the cool kids are doing it, I thought that I'd show you what's on my iPhone. My iPhone is the single most important piece of technology in my line-up. It goes with my everywhere, and is my primary method of communication. I keep the most important apps on my first Home screen. I don't use most of the stock apps enough for them to merit a place on my first screen. Those few that remain, however, I use every day without fail. Messages, Camera, Maps, and Safari all remain on my Home screen. Wallpaper: I like to rotate my wallpapers quite a bit, and I love some of the ones that Apple included in iOS 7, but I'm always on the lookout for wallpapers from…

by Guest Harish Jonnalagadda- 0 replies

Recording a fashion show with an iPhone seems easy compared to what a team of students from a school in Britain have done. With just a helium balloon, a GPS and a flight computer, they have managed to record incredible footage of the Earth. The project, which took over two years to fundraise and plan, resulted in over two-and-a-half hours of footage. Students from Giles Academy outfitted an iPhone with a custom-built craft that included a helium balloon, GPS navigation unit and a flight computer to track the altitude. The phone reached 18 miles above the surface of the Earth and was able to capture more than two-and-a-half hours worth of footage before the balloon bu…

The following post is from Harry Shum, Executive Vice President, Technology and Research, at Microsoft. Data is a precious resource, and as a company we need to make fewer decisions on intuition and more based on market and other data. In a post last month, Satya discussed the need for companies to create a data-driven culture, and we want to be leaders as we explore creative, diverse strategies to create greater value for our customers and greater value from our product/service data exhaust. One demonstration of our intent to lead is the hiring of Preston McAfee (pictured below and right) as chief economist, reporting to me. Preston, most recently director of Goo…

I need help please for a number of errors which have appeared since I updated to Windows 8.1 from 8.0. The first thing is the fact that Windows Defender has not Updated itself for 6 days, even though automatic updating is on. I surveyed the updated history items and noticed it had tried to update many times but failed each time. I have tried updating manually and just when you think it is about to finally finish, the update program stops and returns to the desktop screen, and when I check to see if it has been completed, I find it has again failed. I have looked through, and tried many so called solutions on this site with no results. The updates and error …
