Well overall I find it fast and maneuverable and a great fix to Windows 8.1, so much so I may dump my Windows 8.1 All-in-One which runs like a wounded buffalo hunter freezing and stumbling from one issue to another, by far the worst OS this writer has ever seen. I cannot find a single browser that performs well consistently in Windows 8.1 but here other than for an occasional "IE must close due to imminent castration" which it then doesn't do anyway when you choose "ok", I see no IE issues and I find that especially unusual because I dump Bing for Google and load in LastPass, Mouse Gestures, Wot and Adblock Plus for starters (until I find the rest of my addons). I like…

The actual device support includes the company's Smart Body Analyzer, the Pulse O2 fitness band, the Wireless Blood Pressure Monitor and the Aura sleep tracker. The Health Mate app has also been updated to synch its data from Health Mate's Profile screen to the HealthKit app. Touch ID support for securing that data has also been added. Apple's Beats and Bose have agreed to settle a headphone patent dispute. The disagreement comes over noise canceling tech inside Beats headphones that Bose claims infringed their patents. Bose started legal proceedings in June of this year, but that appears to all be over now. A court document filed on Friday revealed that both sides have agreed to dismiss the case and bear their own costs and legal fees. Both companies have asked the International Trade Commission to suspend their investigation into the dispute. Bose originally wanted to block the import of Beats' products from China. As of right now you can buy Bose products in Apple Stores, it'll be interesting…

GT Advanced Technologies has announced today their intention to close their plants in Arizona and Massachusetts, a move which will see 890 people lose their jobs. The sapphire supplier places the blame for their current financial woes squarely on Apple, saying that the agreements with Apple were problematic, and that ending their deal was necessary for the life of the company. From the Wall Street Journal: In filings with U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New Hampshire, GT Advanced called its agreements with Apple to produce sapphire materials for iPhones "oppressive and burdensome" and that terminating their deal was the only way to stop the bleeding. The launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were bonanzas for Apple, with more than 10 million devices sold in the first weekend, but the new devices were also a huge boon to mobile device accessory makers. According to an analysis by the NPD Group, accessory sales in the two weeks following the new iPhones' September 19th launch surged by 43%, hitting $249 million. For comparison's sake, the launch of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c a year saw a more modest (but still substantial) bump of 17% to $195 million for the two weeks that followed. Unsurprisingly, it was screen protectors and cases that drove the majority of the increase: Screen protector revenue incr…

I love listening to music, soundtracks, and other aural miscellany while puttering around my apartment. Silence might be nice in some places, but when you work and live alone, there's something soothing about having some classic rock at your back while you're doing dishes or writing up an article. I've collected a variety of speakers over the years for the various rooms of my house, but I'd never thought to try and hook them all together until last week, when I had the good fortune of acquiring a Sonos Playbar. If you're unfamiliar with the Sonos brand, the system hooks into your wireless network to allow you to remotely control and stream music to your Sonos speakers,…

At least 100,000 Snapchat photos have been stolen and leaked, taken from a third-party Snapchat client. The 13GB database is now circulating around 4chan and other forums. The images reportedly came either from popular Snapchat client Snapsave or SnapSaved.com, both of which allow users to save photos and videos they receive. Snapchat says that their own servers are secure, and not the source of the breach, according to Business Insider: We can confirm that Snapchat's servers were never breached and were not the source of these leaks. Snapchatters were victimized by their use of third-party apps to send and receive Snaps, a practice that we expressly prohibit in our…

After showing off the Apple Watch at a high-end boutique in Paris during Fashion Week, Apple is continuing its fashion push by placing the watch on the cover of next month's issue of Vogue China. According to Business of Fashion editor-in-chief Angelica Cheung: When Jonathan Ive and Tim Cook talked me through how they developed the concept of the Apple Watch from the beginning, I was impressed by their thoughts and passion for the project. Then I saw the watches and thought they looked rather good; some are sporty and others are very classic and elegant. At the same time, they all have so many functions that would be useful in our daily life. I just thought that …

  23. We've been expecting the next version of Windows to work differently when it comes to updates and upgrades, and with the release of the Windows 10 Technical Preview, Microsoft's intentions are a little clearer. The current Windows update model is superficially simple, but it has a few complexities. Every so often, the company releases a major update to Windows. In theory, that version of the operating system remains essentially unaltered for its lifetime. It receives critical (security) updates on a monthly basis (Patch Tuesday), and periodic non-security bug fixes (both monthly and as larger Service Packs), but significant functional changes are reserved for the next…
