In an interview with CNNMoney at Capital One's new Innovation Center in Plano, Texas, Steve Wozniak stated that Apple should have launched a larger iPhone three years ago. Wozniak also shared his views on the upcoming Apple Watch. According to the Apple co-founder: Apple could have had a much bigger share of the smartphone market if it had a larger-screen iPhone for the past three years. It could have competed better with Samsung. Samsung is the number one handset manufacturer in the world, with a global market share of 24 percent in Q3 2014. Apple came in second with a 12 percent share. Despite being the co-founder of Apple, Wozniak said that he likes to try o…

Former Army medic Rachel Woolley now works for Microsoft. (Photo credit: Scott Eklund, Red Box Pictures) In her former life, Rachel Woolley was an Army medic for convoy platoons in Iraq. She completed her service at Madigan Army Medical Center on Joint Base Lewis-McChord near Tacoma, Washington. While there, she qualified for a program that launched last year – the Microsoft Software & Systems Academy, a program that taps active-duty service members for long-term careers in technology. In Woolley’s case, it turns out that the same analytical thinking and problem-solving skills she developed as an Army medic also are serving her well as a software developer. Sh…

Over 500 million people have now downloaded the standalone Facebook Messenger app since it was first made available in 2011, and it's likely that it has seen a surge in users since Facebook removed the messenging features from its main app several months ago. The company didn't offer a breakdown of how many of its Messenger users are on Android, iOS and Windows Phone with today's announcement, nor did it offer any clues as to what will be included in future updates, saying only that it will continue to "evolve and improve". The removal of messaging features from the main Facebook app has been a source of controversy for many people. However, it would appear that Face…

President Barack Obama has issued a new request to the Federal Communications Commission to reclassify broadband wired Internet service in the US as a public utility, like telephone or power companies are currently classified. This is just the latest attempt to regulate Internet service providers under net neutrality principles. President Obama believes that ISPs should not be allowed to block access to websites, throttle their data speeds or have companies like Netflix pay for faster access to their services. Obama wrote: "So the time has come for the FCC to recognize that broadband service is of the same importance and must carry the same obligations as so ma…

  10. Microsoft is bundling all of its key consumer services into a single deal this holiday season. Dubbed the "Work & Play Bundle," the $199 package is available in US Microsoft stores until January 4th and includes Office 365 Home, Xbox Live Gold, Xbox Music Pass, and Skype Unlimited World. Separately, that would cost around $450 annually, but Microsoft is pricing its bundle at just $199. That’s a big reduction of more than 50 percent for services that give you access to the full Office suite, unlimited OneDrive storage, Xbox Live, music streaming without ads, and unlimited Skype calls. It’s clearly a great deal if you live in a Microsoft world and rely on these s…

That's the idea Continuity is built on. There's Instant Hotspot for sharing cellular connections, AirDrop for transferring files, relay for sending and receiving SMS/MMS, and making or taking phone calls, all from your iPhone, all on your iPad or Mac, and Handoff for continuing your activities even when you switch devices. Although these features are all grouped under the same name, they all have different requirements and all work in different ways. Luckily, they're also easy to set up and …

Apple has increased its device share of the enterprise market, reversing a recent downward trend. Apple's iOS devices accounted for 69 percent of all corporate mobile device activations. This apparently comes down to the release of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, according to VentureBeat: Good Technology says "The release of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus accounted for all of this gain." More specifically, iOS was down to 66 percent of activations in July and August, but comprised 73 percent of September activations thanks to sales of the new devices. Among Apple's latest devices, the iPhone 6 is proving the most popular by a considerable margin, capturing 85 p…

Apple is looking to open new offices in Cambridge, UK. According to a report over on Business Weekly, the tech company will be deploying staff to 90 Hills Road, which sits in the vicinity of the city's mainline rail station, botanic garden and world-renowned university. According to the report: "The Californian-based business is believed to have identified 90 Hills Road for its Cambridge city centre offices and R & D function. With Grade A office space at a premium in Cambridge, the US giant would probably start with around 20 staff but have capacity to gear up to as many as 40 in that space." 20. For any number of reasons, you may need to create Windows 8.1 installation media. And now, thanks to a new online tool from Microsoft, you can. The Windows Installation Media Creation Tool lets you choose the language, product edition, and architecture, and then can save the resulting install media to a USB flash drive or to an ISO file, which you can later burn to disc if needed. I'm not sure when this tool became available, but I know it wasn't around when Windows 8.1 launched. And it won't help you overcome some of the lingering issues with this release (like the inability to use a valid Windows 8.0 product key to install Windows 8.1 directly). But still it's very m…

Words matter. They define, they shape, they influence, they have power. But most importantly, they evolve as our understanding of them and the world evolves. And so it is with the word “productivity.” In the world of technology, the word productivity has often been narrowly defined – usually referring to work that involves a document, spreadsheet, presentation, or to do list. But in its broader historical context it’s a word that has always had a bigger meaning – as a way to describe or measure what a person, team, organization or company accomplishes relative to the effort they put in. In other words, productivity is simply a way of thinking about how well we use o…

NSFW is a weekly op-ed column in which I talk about whatever's on my mind. Sometimes it'll have something to do with the technology we cover here on iMore; sometimes it'll be whatever pops into my head. Your questions, comments and observations are welcome. Everyone's had that experience where you're promised something, and when you get it, what you get doesn't live up to your expectations. That's the way I've been feeling with OS X Yosemite and iOS 8. Every operating system release has growing pains, and Apple has boxed itself into a corner especially this year by rolling out two new OSes that are so closely mated to one another. When it works, it works spectacul…

New documents filed this week on the Federal Communications Commission website shows that an upcoming headphone from Beats Electronics could be the first to have Apple branding on its packaging since the company acquired Beats earlier this year. According to 9to5Mac, which found the FCC filing, the new product is a Bluetooth wireless version of the previously released Beats Solo2 headphones. The post doesn't show a release date for the product, but it does show that its packaging will show Apple's world headquarters address. The FCC listing also shows Apple listed as the creator and tester of these headphones. It's likely that all future Beats hardware product…
