Microsoft's new Windows 9 OS is expected to be released in Spring 2015 Windows 9 was been a hot topic of discussion even before the launch of Windows 8. The current Microsoft OS is almost two years old, but it has failed to impress users. Though the updates improved on some of the features, the sales numbers were less than expected. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is certainly aware of the situation, and it is widely expected that Windows 9 will be a big improvement on Windows 8. Since there has been no official news, most of the available information on the Windows 9 comes from a series of leaks and rumors that refer to “Project Threshold.” What’s the latest o…

Microsoft China inadvertently confirmed my report from January this morning, posting to the Weibo social networking service that Windows 9 was "coming soon." It was even nice enough to briefly post a Windows 9 logo, though that was of course quickly pulled. I was the first to report that Microsoft planned to market "Threshold" as Windows 9 and make a (marketing, not technical) break with the Windows 8 past. Since then, of course, Microsoft has gone back and forth with regards to this release while briefly considered pulling out a few key features like the Start menu and releasing them earlier. But with Windows 9/Threshold now on track as a big bang release that will…

This week we've got new music from Prince, doom soul from Cold Specks, Godzilla and more! Art Official Age and Plectrumelectrum - Prince Only Prince can get away with releasing two albums on the same day. Prince is back with Warner Bros, the same label he split from back in the 1990s when he painted the word "Slave" on his face and changed his name to a symbol. They've kissed and made up, and the result is not one but two albums. Art Official Age contains 13 tracks wh…

The video shows shows us the site from a variety of angles, and as you can see, the drone actually gets fairly close to the site. The video was shot using a DJI Phantom 2 Drone with a GoPro camera attached. It looks like they've made significant progress on the facility. Phase one of construction on Campus 2 is supposed to be completed by 2016. What do you think of the video? Tell us below in the comments. Source: Continue reading...

by Guest John Callaham- 0 replies

The Banner Saga will be released for touchscreen tablets, including the iPad later this year, but as it turns out, the team at Stoic Games has been planning to bring the game to tablets since its inception. John Watson, co-founder and technical director at Stoic Games, talked with me about the process of bringing The Banner Saga to tablets, along with the always tricky question on how the game will be priced for the iPad, and more. First, The Banner Saga began as a PC and Mac RPG. When the game was first developed, was the plan to extend its platforms to tablets or did that come later in the cycle? We were thinking about tablet from the very beginning. In fact …

NSFW: The September Apple Event, Kremlinology and blind luck
by Guest Peter Cohen- 0 replies

NSFW is a weekly op-ed column in which I talk about whatever's on my mind. Sometimes it'll have something to do with the technology we cover here on iMore; sometimes it'll be whatever pops into my head. Your questions, comments and observations are welcome. Apple sent out invitations to journalists to attend a special event in September, ostensibly where the company will announce the iPhone 6. The second the first image of the invite hit the Internet, the Kremlinologists jumped into action to dissect it, trying to attach meaning to whatever they could. And that's about when my head hit the desk in frustration. For the uninitiated, Kremlinology is a term that harke…

The original Super Meat Boy was released for the Xbox 360 and Windows in 2010 and later for the Mac and Linux platforms. The game has the player controlling a sentient piece of raw meat through a series of highly challenging platformer levels. The game got great reviews and has sold over a million copies since its launch. iPhone 6 allegedly leaks on video, might finally have NFC support
by Guest Sam Sabri- 0 replies

An alleged image of the logic board in the upcoming iPhone 6 shows potential NFC support. For years the world has waited to see when Apple would include NFC functionality in the iPhone, turns out it might be very soon. On top of that, we might have our best video look at the iPhone 6. The folks at Feld&Volk have shared images of the logic board in the 4.7-inch iPhone 6. They also were apparently able to piece together an iPhone 6 from leaked supplies. In the images you're able to see the A8 processor and an NFC chip. Looking at the images you can also see 16 GB of flash memory from Toshiba. Leading us to think that will be the lowest tier storage available wit…

Mac portable USB drive roundup: The best little drives for your Mac
by Guest Peter Cohen- 0 replies

When it comes time to buy an external hard drive for your Mac, you can really buy anything — just about any external hard drive equipped with USB 2.0 or 3.0 will work. But sometimes you're more comfortable dealing with a vendor that actually has a special focus on the Mac, so I've rounded up five of the best I've found. All the drives I've recommended are reasonably portable, and could be put in a backpack or briefcase easily alongside a laptop Mac like a MacBook Air or a MacBook Pro. All of them should come formatted for OS X, and most of them include special driver or application software that may give you special functionality like file security, additional backup…

T-Mobile's 'personal' Uncarrier 7.0 event to be held at San Francisco store on September 10
by Guest Derek Kessler- 0 replies

T-Mobile's scheduled their next Uncarrier event (this one being Uncarrier 7.0), and they're holding it on September 10th. The tagline for this event? "This time it's personal"… whatever that means. Unlike previous Uncarrier events, which have taken over convention spaces and theaters, this one is being held at the T-Mobile retail store at the corner of Market St and 3rd St in San Francisco. It's a little store. In fact, the sidewalk outside might be bigger than the store inside. T-Mobile's walking into the fire here, though, with Apple's likely iPhone 6 and maybe iWatch event scheduled for the preceding day](http://www.imore.com/apple-announces-september-9-special-ev…

iWatch reportedly being shown off in September, shipped next year
by Guest Joseph Keller- 0 replies

While it's still expected to be announced at Apple's September 9 event, it appears that Apple's iWatch —or whatever they ultimately name their first wearable — may not be available for a while after. The time between the unveiling and launch will be at least a few months, with the device actually launching after the holiday season, according to John Paczkowski of Re/code: Sources in position to know tell me it won't arrive at market for a few months. "It's not shipping any time soon," said one. So when does Apple plan to ship its eagerly anticipated wearable? That's not clear, but my understanding is that we're unlikely to see it at retail until after the holiday se…

If you've got an iPhone 5c that just doesn't seem to vibrate no matter what mode you have it in, it's possible that the vibrator assembly itself is defective or blown.
