NFC payment service ISIS has unveiled their rebranding, Softcard. The joint payment venture bewteen Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile US announced earlier this year that they would change their name in order to avoid being associated with violence in the Middle East being perpetrated by a group that, at the time, went by ISIS. Softcard will remain the same service as before, just with a new name. The branding is expected to roll out very soon. It should be noted that the militant group has since changed their own name to ISIL. What do you think of the Softcard name? Leave your thoughts in the comments below. Logitech is no stranger to Bluetooth keyboards, but with the newly announced K480 the accessory maker is looking to connect three different devices at the same time, regardless of the computing platform. As the keyboard is platform agnostic, you can connect various devices running Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Android or iOS via Bluetooth at the same time. To switch between devices, all you have to do is toggle the Easy-Switch key to the desired device. There's also an integrated slot on the keyboard that can house a smartphone and a tablet. Available in black and white, the K480 is set to launch later this month in the US and Europe for $50. Source: Logitech …

by Guest James Richardson- 0 replies
With all eyes on IFA this week the UK's largest 4G network are kicking things of nice an early by announcing some restructuring with their Pay-As-You-Go offerings. As you'll see from the following press release EE have studied what PAYG users are after and have come up with some solutions which include 4G packs from just £1 per week. Although EE were the first carrier in the UK to offer 4G it does come at a premium, something which some other networks are cashing in on and offering 4G at no extra charge. The downside to them though is that there coverage is way behind that of EE. Good news for consumers in the UK. I suspect we're in for a week of great news to kee…

When Windows 8 launched in 2012, Microsoft struggled to convince users that they should make the switch. The new UI was unfamiliar and unresponsive, the critical reaction was skeptical at best and most importantly, there wasn’t really anything wrong with Windows 7. In fact, two years later, Windows 7 still has an enormous lead over Windows 8, but with the latest software update, Microsoft has finally started turning users around on the new OS. According to the latest data from StatCounter, Windows 8.1 became the fourth most popular operating system over Windows 8 in August with a 7.46% market share. OS X barely topped out Windows 8.1 with 7.82%, but perhaps unsurpr…

by Guest Rene Ritchie- 0 replies

Apple is following up the very public commitment to diversity and inclusivity they made last month with lots of work behind the scenes. Denise Young-Smith, vice president of global human resources, recently updated everyone on the feedback they'd received from the "Your Voice" initiative, sharing comments, motivations, and goals.Mark Gurman posted the contents of the memo on 9to5Mac, including: You told us where Apple could be doing better. You said that your teams and your managers could do more to be inclusive. This often manifests itself in subtle ways — from the words we choose, to how we hire, to how we engage one another and develop others. We all bring with u…

by Guest Rene Ritchie- 0 replies

The definitive guide to Apple's reinvention of the phone: From the original iPhone to what comes next! Apple introduced the original iPhone back in 2007, instantly obsoleting every other smartphone on the planet in every way that mattered. Over the next two years, with the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, Apple increased functionality while simultaneously lowering price, taking the smartphone fully out of the niche and making it mainstream. The iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S continued that evolution, bringing support for broader carriers and faster speeds, better displays and new, natural language interfaces. The iPhone 5 took manufacturing to new levels and the screen to new heights…

For Bing’s Kevin White, red wine and data science are the perfect pairing
by Guest Marc Freeman- 0 replies

With upwards of 800 wineries, Washington state has emerged as the second-largest premium wine producer in the United States. Turning off a side street in an industrial area of sleepy Woodinville, I start to think the majority of these wineries might reside here, within a complex of storage depots referred to by locals as the “warehouse district.” OK, so industrial concrete isn’t quite the image of vast farmlands and sprawling grapevines I envisioned on my way over. For that you’d have to travel to Eastern Washington, to Walla Walla and Horse Heaven Hills, places with the kinds of names you couldn’t make up if you tried. But I didn’t come here for the scenery. I came to…

With iOS, Apple has added features to specifically help those with visual impairments, including blindness, color blindness, and low vision, with auditory impairments including deafness in one or both ears, physical or motor skill impairments, including limited coordination or range of motion, and learning challenges, including autism and dyslexia.
