President Obama has signed the E-Label Act into law on Wednesday, which will allow electronics manufacturers to add labels for products using software rather than having to print the labels on hardware. Essentially, with the law, phones and tablets can be made with cleaner designs as labels and stickers will no longer be needed and the information could instead be found within the phone's software. iPhones and iPads today ship with a number of identifying information, including the serial number printed onto the shell, along with recycling information, the FCC logo, the CE logo, and the model number. It appears that fans of Star Wars won't have to make the trek to local theaters to see the trailer for the newest franchise installment. On a post on Twitter, the Disney-owned Lucasfilm production announced that the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens will also be available on Black Friday, November 28, on Apple's iTunes. While the arrival date of the Apple Watch is still very much a mystery, it looks like Apple is at least willing to give us a few more peeks at the device. Apple has announced that its iOS 8 operating system for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad now is installed on 60 percent of devices as of November 24. With the latest numbers, iOS 7 is installed on 35 percent of devices while prior iOS versions are on 5 percent of devices. At its October event, Apple compared its adoption rate of its latest mobile OS to Android's, noting that iOS 8 was installed on 48 percent of devices in just 26 days compared to Android's adoption rate of KitKat, which was present on about a quarter of devices; the difference was that it took Android nearly a whole year to get to the 25 percent mark. In an effort to build a more personalized experience, Twitter has announced it will be collecting a list of user-installed applications on iOS and Android smartphone as part of its app graph program. Though Twitter says it will not be collecting data inside those apps, users who do not wish to participate can opt out. Civilization: Beyond Earth is now available for OS X. The latest installment in the Civilization series takes humanity to a new world in an effort to survive. Published by 2K, the game was ported to OS X by Aspyr, who took charge over the previous entries in the series. Screeny is a new app that lets you easily delete screenshots from your photo library. It automatically detects screenshots, and lets you mark them for deletion with just a tap. Note that Screeny does require iOS 8.1 or later. You'll be presented with a very simple Start Scanning button. As unions in Silicon Valley are pushing for better conditions for contract employees, including security guards, Apple finds itself caught in a labor debate. The Service Employees International Union and civil rights activist the Rev.
