The Banner Saga, the acclaimed Viking-themed role playing game from developer Stoic Studio, is officially getting a sequel. The Banner Saga 2 was announced on Friday with a teaser trailer that offered little in the way of game information. Stoic has yet to reveal a release date or platforms for the sequel, which was announced as part of the first annual Game Awards event in Las Vegas. However, since the original Banner Saga was launched on the Mac, iPhone and iPad, it seems likely that The Banner Saga 2 will also be launched for those platforms. In the meantime, check out the rather dramatic animated teaser trailer. Source: Videos AGB Continue…

Scrolls, a fantasy-themed collectible card-strategy game by Mojang, the developers of Minecraft, will be hitting the Mac on December 11, with the iPad to follow later. This comes over three years after it was first announced, after a ton of alpha and beta tests, and after the team was acquired by Microsoft. The Mac version, like other platforms, will go for $4.99. The previously announced iPad version apparently needs some extra time to get finished. Continue reading...

After establishing authorized reseller stores in all major cities in India, Apple is reportedly looking to increase its retail presence in the country by opening 500 stores in smaller cities and towns. The Cupertino giant launched the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in India within a month of their official debut in the US, making it the first time consumers in the country had such early access to the latest iPhones. Citing an insider source, Economic Times said: The company is finalizing plans to become a serious player in India, which is being seen as a strategic and one of the most promising markets globally. Apple is said to be focusing its attention on smaller …

Apple's appeal to throw out the class-action lawsuit filed on behalf of all current and former Apple Store employees in California and corporate staff has been denied. The suit alleges that the Mac-maker had violated labor codes by denying employees breaks, and lawyers in the suit claim Apple owes these employees unpaid back wages. Apple's petition was denied by a three-judge panel in a California Superior Court on November 26 according to a report by PC Mag: "The petition for writ of mandate, informal response, and reply have been read and considered by Justices Nares, McDonald, and O'Rourke. The petition is denied," stated a filing from the Superior Court of …

In a recorded deposition played in court Friday during the $350 million class-action suit filed against Apple over locking out competing services to iTunes from consumers' iPods, Steve Jobs echoed the same sentiments that were given as testimony by current executives earlier in the week. Jobs said that Apple had an obligation to patch holes and prevent hacks by updating its software continuously to protect its relationships with the record labels, which provided Apple with their catalog of music to sell on iTunes. Apple was not being anti-competitive, according to the testimony Jobs gave three years prior, but rather it had to protect its business relationships, acco…

The developer behind Drafts, a popular time-shifting text app, was told by the App Store review team that he needed to remove their Today view widget from iOS's Notification Center due to the behavior of its buttons. It's one of a growing number of post-review rejections for Notification Center widgets that began with PCalc. Though Apple later reversed its PCalc decision, the company has continued to reexamine other widgets. So, what's going on... and why? Extensibility, which includes Today view widgets, has been one of the biggest additions to iOS since the launch of the App Store. Unsurprisingly, it's why we're seeing something akin to the kind of growing pains firs…

In a rare interview, Apple's first employee, Bill Fernandez, opened up about working with Steve Jobs, his role in building the Apple II computer, and how he played matchmaker to introduce Jobs to co-founder Steve Wozniak. In his interview with Jason Hiner on Tech Republic, Fernandez said that he and Jobs became fast friends in middle school in Cupertino, California: "We were both nerdy, socially inept, intellectual," said Fernandez, "and we gravitated towards each other. We both also were not at all interested in the superficial bases upon which the other kids were basing their relationships, and we had no particular interest in living shallow lives to be accep…

At the Mashable Media Summit, Foursquare chief revenue officer Steven Rosenblatt announced that the company will finally be releasing its self-titled app for the iPad. Rosenblatt says that this would allow users to plan their dining and travel experiences while browsing on the iPad from their couches. Foursquare's iPad experience is said to be coming in a matter of weeks. Earlier this year, Foursquare had spun off its check-in service into a separate app called Swarm, allowing the main app to function as a resource to discover new places, like rival Yelp. This strategy for discovery would make sense on larger devices like the iPad. Source: Mashable …

As a result of Apple implementing Activation Lock on its iOS software, iPhone theft cases are on the decline. The Federal Communications Commission published a report in December detailing that iPhone thefts are down by a significant margin in major cities, such as in San Francisco, CA and New York, NY in the U.S. and London in the U.K. The report titled Report of Technological Advisory Council (TAC) Subcommittee on Mobile Device Theft Prevention (MDTP) credits Apple's software in lowering smartphone thefts in the six months since Activation Lock was introduced. In San Francisco, the FCC reported a 38% decline in iPhone thefts in the six months following the avail…

Recent anecdotal evidence of throttling AT&T data speeds on unlimited LTE plans have been confirmed by spokespeople, despite regulatory pressure to eliminate the practice. AT&T users with those subscriptions are still being automatically throttled after they hit 5 GB of usage. This change can be as dramatic as a dip from 23 Mbps to 0.1 Mbps until the end of the billing cycle. AT&T reserves the right to slow down transfer speeds in the name of managing congested networks, which was the core of their breathless defense when the FTC up and sued them for this kind of thing. As it stands, however, AT&T can slow your LTE speeds regardless of network congest…

NSFW is a weekly op-ed column in which I talk about whatever's on my mind. Sometimes it'll have something to do with the technology we cover here on iMore; sometimes it'll be whatever pops into my head. Your questions, comments and observations are welcome. Mark Zuckerberg apparently thinks Apple is charging too much for its products, and said so in an interview this past week. The comment didn't come out of nowhere, however — Zuckerberg was reacting to a comment Tim Cook made about Facebook's core business model. Who's right? Never mind Azealia Banks and Iggy Azalea — the real celebrity fight this week is happening between Tim Cook and Mark Zuckerberg. Zuck just …

Mac OS X has a couple of great safeguards in place to prevent you from accidentally running malicious applications that might infect or otherwise damage your computer. But that can occasionally also prevent perfectly legitimate applications from running. Here's how to keep your computer safe and also have the option to open certain software on a case-by-case basis. What Mac safeguards keep me protected? First introduced in OS X Mountain Lion, Gatekeeper looks at a program when you run it to determine whether it meets a few criteria set by the system. If it meets those settings, the app runs; if not, the computer refuses to open the application. How to ch…

Lawyers in the $350 million class-action suit filed against Apple over DRM issues with iTunes withdrew one of their two plaintiffs in the case after it was discovered that the person did not purchase an iPod during the period in question. Lawyers accused Apple of locking the iPod to digital music purchased from iTunes from September 2006 through March 2009 and it appears that one of the plaintiffs did not purchase an Apple music player during that time frame. Even claims made by the second plaintiff may not be solid. As reported by the New York Times, Apple's lawyers provided a receipt showing that the second plaintiff had purchased her iPod outside of the time windo…

Apple is "entering a whack-a-mole era" when it comes to enterprise security, according to Marble Security, a company that — wait for it! — wants to sell enterprise on additional security products. Sadly, their marketing-masquerading-as-threat-assessment is being passed along as reporting, and that does a profound disservice to people who need to be informed and empowered, not manipulated and scared. So, what's really going on with Apple and security? The security vendor uses both Wirelurker and Masque attacks as the basis for their claims that Apple is leaving enterprises vulnerable to exploits. Both Wirelurker and Masque attacks use enterprise certificates — the syste…

Apple's leather cases for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are only one option out of many you have when it comes to picking protective shielding for your device. What drew me to this case in particular, however, was its thin profile and the ease of which I could remove and put it back on. A few weeks in, is it still as great as I thought it would be? I chose the black version of Apple's leather case for my iPhone 6 Plus, and opted for the soft pink version for my iPhone 6. Silicon has never really appealed to me, as it seems to stick to the inside of your pockets and pick up specks of lint and dust. This made the leather version the obvious choice, and after testing, it d…

Pro photographer Brooks Kraft decided to cover the annual unveiling of White House Christmas decorations with an iPhone 6 Plus this year. The lighter nature of the event meant he didn't have to rely on a DSLR like usual. In addition to getting some truly classy shots in a 1:1 aspect ratio, Kraft offered a few tricks to get the most out of your iPhone photography. Brooks Kraft's five tips for shooting with an iPhone: Make sure you get the best exposure you can when you're shooting, because it's pretty hard to correct a bad exposure on the phone. It's worth taking the extra minute to get it right. Don't use the flash. With steady hands, the iPhone is frequently…
