This blog emphasizes the process of gathering profiler traces for application hosted on App Service that is experiencing slowness. It also provides guidance on how to review these collected traces to pinpoint the root cause and take steps towards resolving it. Access the Azure Portal and navigate to the desired App Service. Navigate to "Diagnose and Solve Problems" -> "Diagnostic Tools" Choose "Collect .NET Profiler Trace" option. Configure the trace options to gather data from the specific application instance, including thread details. Reproduce the issue at step 2. Access and examine the generated report. …

Web applications are becoming more complex, dynamic, and user-centric than ever before. They are also being deployed more frequently, often multiple times a day, thanks to continuous integration and delivery pipelines. To ensure that these applications deliver a reliable and consistent user experience, testing becomes a critical part of the development process. However, traditional testing approaches that rely on manual testers or brittle scripts are not scalable or reliable enough to meet the demands of modern web development. We need a better way to automate testing of web applications, one that can handle complex user interactions, cross-browser compatibility, a…

When GNOME 47 is released later this year it may come with a new desktop font. Well, not new new, so don’t get too excited. We’re talking new to GNOME, not new to the world. GNOME’s design team is exploring a switch to Inter, a popular open-source sans-serif typeface first published in 2017 by Swedish programmer Rasmus Andersson. Inter pitches itself as a “carefully crafted & designed” font for computer screens. Yet its use has extended well beyond that. Inter’s legibility, variability, and adaptability, multiple weights, OpenType features, and glyph coverage across 147 languages have seen it used on everything from website text, and brand logos, to NASA t…

Today, researchers and developers often use a dedicated GPU for their workloads, even when only a fraction of the GPU's compute power is needed. The NVIDIA A100, A30, and H100 Tensor Core GPUs introduce a revolutionary feature called Multi-Instance GPU (MIG). MIG partitions the GPU into up to seven instances, each with its own dedicated compute, memory, and bandwidth. This enables multiple users to run their workloads on the same GPU, maximizing per-GPU utilization and boosting user productivity. In this blog, we will guide you through the process of creating a SLURM cluster and integrating NVIDIA's Multi-Instance GPU (MIG) feature to efficiently schedule GPU-accelerat…

In enterprise environments, requirements often demand the use of private networks, resulting in VMs not being assigned Public IP addresses. In such cases, Azure Bastion offers an extremely useful feature for accessing these VMs without complexity. When logging into Linux VMs on Azure via Azure Bastion using an SSH Private Key, the key is often managed as a local file. Managing SSH Private Key files on individual devices poses risks such as potential key leakage. Therefore, centralized management, including proper role assignment, is preferable from a security standpoint. A common need in such scenarios is to manage SSH Private Keys using Key Vault. This article provides s…

These days, I was working on a simulation to understand why custom DNS servers resolve the public IP instead of the private IP when using Azure Private Endpoints. Here, I would like to share some lessons learned about this topic. We have many definitions on how to configure DNS servers, create Forward Zones, Conditional Forwards, Forwarders, etc., for the DNS database.windows.net to resolve the private IP of the Azure SQL Server Private Endpoint. [HEADING=2] [/HEADING] [HEADING=2]Lessons Learned[/HEADING] During several tests, I found that when we define the Private Endpoint configuration for Azure SQL Server, it is crucial to include the Azure Private DN…

[HEADING=1][/HEADING] [HEADING=1]About[/HEADING] This article will talk through how one can import an existing database that lives on a SQL Server either on prem or in Azure onto a local machine. This import will create a .sqlproj. Per the documentation a sql Project is: A Management Studio project is a collection of logically related scripts and files that can be saved together for database administration and development. Once we have this then we will have the ability to make and test changes locally, place the contents under source control, and leverage Azure DevOps for CI/CD deployment. One misnomer that I will call out is that we will do this all with…

We are excited to announce the public preview of the new optimization architecture for Microsoft Teams on Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows 365 is now rolled out for all users. This new architecture is designed to close the feature gap between native Teams and Teams for Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) by enhancing performance, providing auto updates, and streamlining support. The new architecture introduces several key improvements over the existing optimization. A new client-side plug-in is responsible for establishing a virtual channel with Teams on the server and subsequently handling media engine downloads. REST API plays a pivotal role in the management of resources on Azure, offering a standardized and methodical approach for handling operations such as create, read, update, and delete (CRUD). The use of HTTP methods, such as GET, POST, PUT, and DELETE, in REST API aligns with CRUD operations, making it intuitive for administrators to manipulate resources on Azure. Additionally, REST API supports a range of data formats, including JSON and XML, providing versatility in how data is consumed and transmitted. This is particularly valuable for automating workflows and enabling continuous deployment and integration practices. Focusing on Azure WAF, we'll examine its REST API in…
