We reported yesterday that the ad exchange TapSense had announced an ad platform for the upcoming Apple Watch. As it turns out, the company later updated its blog post to acknowledge that its plans to integrate with Apple Pay won't actually work. From TapSense: Update, Jan 5th, 2015 22:03 PST - Both Apple's WatchKit SDK and the TapSense SDK are in Beta and APIs are subject to change. As and when Apple makes the WatchKit guidelines available, we will review it carefully to ensure our SDK is both in compliance and approved by Apple. Couple clarifications and corrections: We're announcing a programmatic platform which will allow you to have your ads displayed on App…

Apple reportedly planning major redesign for next MacBook Air
by Guest Joseph Keller- 0 replies

Apple is reportedly readying a new, radically different version of its MacBook Air. The new device will apparently sport a 12-inch screen, and remove many of the ports and connections found on the current model. It also seems that the new MacBook Air will be narrower and taller, according to Mark Gurman at 9to5Mac: The 12-inch MacBook Air will be considerably smaller than the current 13-inch version, yet also slightly narrower than the 11-inch model. The new 12-inch version is approximately a quarter-of-an-inch narrower than the 11-inch version, yet it is also a quarter-of-an-inch taller in order to accommodate the slightly larger display. In order to fit the larger…

One of Microsoft's biggest decisions this year will be whom to charge for Windows 10, and the dollar figure on the price sticker. Hints of that decision could come as early as Jan. 21, when Microsoft executives will not only unveil the next iteration in Windows 10's string of previews, but also further explain Windows' part in the company's overall strategy. CEO Satya Nadella has alternately portrayed that strategy as "cloud-first, mobile first" and "productivity and platforms." Office for iPad: Word is a home run, Excel is a win, but PowerPoint disappoints. In December, Microsoft COO Kevin Turner said that the firm would reveal its Windows business model plans i…

A whole batch of new smarthome sensors from Belkin have been announced at CES which include a new WeMo room motion sensor, an alarm upgrade system, and a magnetic sensor for windows and doors. The most interesting of the bunch is an accessory that installs into your home's plumbing to monitor water usage. As usual, they connect to your home Wi-Fi network for all sorts of smart home utilities accessible from your phone. WeMo Water senses pressure changes based on things like turning on faucets and flushing the toilet, and can detect plumbing problems. Right now, WeMo water is undergoing field trials. Hands-on with the Alcatel smartwatch, for iOS and Android
by Guest Phil Nickinson- 0 replies
It's tough to traipse past even a single blackjack table here in Las Vegas without someone trying to pitch you on a new sort of smartwatch. But one of the more interesting ones we've seen here at CES 2015 is the Alcatel smartwatch — proper name: WATCH, which we'll use just this one time in all caps. And that what piques our interest is that this one isn't just another Android notifications pusher — it picks up where Pebble started and works with iOS devices as well. Will the Alcatel watch make the same sort of dent as Pebble or be as prevalent with the Android faithful as Android Wear is? Let's rap. First things first. The Alcatel watch works with anything runn…

Should you have a display capable of rendering video in said resolution, fetch the popcorn and enjoy the drone flyover footage. As we've covered already, phase one of construction is expected to be completed by 2016. While there's still some way to go, it's a staggering sight to behold. The campus will not only house the thousands of Apple employees, but the company will also ensure the new HQ will be environmentally friendly. Via: 9to5Mac Continue reading...

First look at the Parrot RNB6 in-dash system, compatible with Apple CarPlay
by Guest Justin Duino- 0 replies
Parrot came to CES 2015 with more than anyone had expected. Instead of announcing a new quad-copter or a jumping vehicle, Parrot showed off an in-dash car infotainment system. This system, codenamed RNB6, is a lot more than any third party in-dash unit that you can install in your car. The RNB6 runs a custom built build of Android 5.0 Lollipop. Systems like these that have custom forks of Android are fairly common but what makes this unit special is its compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This means that no matter what operating system you or your passengers use on your mobile phone, your car will always be able to connect to it and use the car focused f…

Sent a few too many embarrassing texts last night? There's an app for that. Strings, started by Be Labs in Seattle, gives you the ability to permanently delete a text message from your phone and any phone you sent it to. Additionally, Strings requires your friends to ask your permission before downloading any photos or videos you send them. (Story continues below). A post on the Strings website describes the concept: We believe you deserve a way to spontaneously and fearlessly share your most intimate moments and personal thoughts from your smartphone. The Netatmo camera will tell you and your Apple Watch who's in your home
by Guest Richard Devine- 0 replies
Netatmo may be a name you're not so familiar with, but at CES 2015 they're on hand showing off their connected home camera system that will also support the Apple Watch as well as the iPhone. It also boasts that it'll recognise the faces of anyone you tell it to any time that they're in your home. Once you've told the companion app who your family and any other trusted faces are, the Netatmo will be able to recognize when those people are in your home. Since it can tell when people come and go, it'll give you a real time update of who's there at any time. If someone comes in that it doesn't recognize, perhaps to steal your TV, then the camera will ping the applicatio…

How I pack for a tech conference
by Guest Serenity Caldwell- 0 replies
If you follow tech news at all, you might be aware of a teensy little event coming up in Las Vegas, requiring the talents of most of the iMore and Mobile Nations staff. CES is a strange and unique snowflake in the land of tech conferences, to be sure — but when it comes to prepping for it, I actually pack many of the same things I'd pack for any other tech conference or work trip. Having done the whole tech reporter gig for a few years now, I've got a pretty good system going for packing efficiently. So here, dear iMore readers, is generally what I take when I travel for work. I wrote this in part so that I remembered to pack everything — but hopefully it'll also prove…
