  1. Mentions of this leaked build of Windows 10 actually started popping up prior to the Windows Insider release of build 10122 which was pushed out to testers on 20 May 2015. Although this build is just a few increments after the 10122 release it does have some UI and feature additions that we had not yet seen. Amongst those features is the appearance of Windows Hello with camera support and the Start Menu customization that allows you to pin various places such as Documents, Network, Download, Music, etc. to the Start Menu. I think the biggest thing discussed about this build is the new icon set that is now included and they are a serious improvement over what we have…

If you're struggling with an iPhone or iPad that isn't working right, restoring it as new can be just what the device ordered! I've had a third-generation iPad — the first Retina Display-equipped model — since it was released. I've never upgraded, not even to the new iPad Air or iPad Air 2 because the iPad 3 has always done what I wanted it to do. Or at least it used to. When I first updated to iOS 8, it killed my iPad. Made it a doorstop. The iPad became sluggish and unresponsive. It became almost impossible to type on it; launching apps became excruciatingly slow, and I'd occasionally get spontaneous restarts too. I was afraid it wasn't going to be useful anymore.…

Microsoft says Windows 10 will be the last version of Windows. Should OS X 10.11 be the last version of OS X? Microsoft's Jerry Nixon raised eyebrows at the company's Ignite conference recently. He said that Windows 10 "is the last version of Windows.". Microsoft may be on to something, and I'm wondering how well it would work for the Mac when it comes to OS X 10.11. An iterative approach might give Apple an opportunity to introduce new technology more gradually. Nixon doesn't mean that Microsoft has any plans to cancel Windows or do something else radical with it. Instead, he's talking about Microsoft's plans to evolve Windows as a service, rather than as a…

Steve Jobs once said no one had more operational power at Apple, aside from himself, than Jony Ive. Jony Ive, the man who helped reignite Apple with the iMac, iPod, iPhone, and iPad had more operational power than the finance group, the engineering group, the services group, even the operations group. Apple, the company that put design first, put design first. For years Ive ran industrial design (ID) at Apple. When Tim Cook became CEO in the fall of 2011, he added human interface (HI) to Ive's responsibilities. The goal was to remove silos and increase collaboration. Ive, who'd long had Richard Howarth as a lieutenant for ID, brought Alan Dye over from marketing to …

Jony Ive is now Apple's Chief Design Officer, a step up from his previous role as Senior Vice President of Design. An interview with Stephen Fry has revealed that design guru Jony Ive has been promoted to Chief Design Officer at Apple. Joining Ive in his promotion are Richard Howarth and Alan Dye, who are now the heads of Industrial Design (ID) and Human Interface (HI), respectively. From The Telegraph: Until now, Ive's job title has been Senior Vice President of Design. But I can reveal that he has just been promoted and is now Apple's Chief Design Officer. It is therefore an especially exciting time for him. Inside the fabled design studio (cloths over the l…

If you'd like to make images and text easier to read, or if you'd like to have even more desktop space, the Mac makes it easy to adjust. With just a few clicks in System Preferences, you can go through all the resolutions supported on your Mac. If you're using a Retina display, you can switch from "Default for display" to "scaled" and either make things big or make use of all the pixels at your disposal. That can help with legibility or just help you cram even more windows onto your Mac. The procedure is different depending on what sort of screen you have connected to your Mac: built-in or external. If you have a lot of peripherals to connect to your Mac, and you want high-performance, you should consider a Thunderbolt 2 dock. Using a Thunderbolt 2 dock has practical benefits.
