If you're fresh from Windows, you're probably used to right-clicking your mouse to pull up contextual menus and other actions. You can do the same on the Mac, even without a right mouse button. Here's how! If you've just switched to the Mac, you may find yourself a bit confused by how the Mac's mice and trackpad work. The Mac famously doesn't come with a mouse or trackpad that has a distinct right-mouse button. But that doesn't mean you can't right-click on the Mac. Whether you use the built-in trackpad on your Mac laptop, a Magic Trackpad, a Magic Mouse, or a third-party mouse that has a distinct right button, here's how to enable right-click menus on your Mac. How…

  2. Microsoft’s Windows 10 operating system will include an app that lets iPhone and Android users sync their devices with their desktop. Will Microsoft really give away Windows 10 following its release date? And will the free upgrade stand after the 12-month grace period? The answer to the second question was provided by Windows chief Terry Myerson in a recent blog. “Once a customer upgrades, they will continue to receive ongoing Windows innovation and security updates for free, for the supported lifetime of that device,” Myerson wrote. Picking up on this good news, GHacks.net published a…

  3. Microsoft is still preparing to finalize Windows 10 in time for a July launch. AMD CEO Lisa Su originally revealed the Windows 10 July launch plans in an earnings call back in April, but Microsoft has not officially commented on the date other than restating that the operating system will launch in the summer. Sources familiar with Microsoft's plans have revealed to The Verge that the company has been targeting a late July release for months now, and that it's still on track. We understand that July 29th was one of a few target dates discussed, and that the company is trying to finalize the code (release to manufacturing) by the end of June. Microsoft had considere…

Glances are convenient ways to find the information you want, when you want it. And part of that is organizing them the way you want them Glances appear on your Apple Watch, from left to right, in the same order as they appear in the Apple Watch for iPhone app, from top to bottom. Settings can't move, so it's always first on the left — and top of the list. To move Glances to the left, move them higher on the list. To move them to the right, move them lower on the list. It's simple once you get the hang of it. How to organize Glances on your Apple Watch Launch the Apple Watch app on your iPhone. Tap on the My Watch tab. Tap on Glances Find the Glance you want …

The new 15-inch MacBook Pro with Force Touch trackpad is the latest Apple device to support Dell's 27-inch 5K monitor. Apple's new 15-inch MacBook Pro is the latest Apple device to support the 27-inch 5K display from Dell. As with the Retina iMac and Mac Pro, support for Dell's display requires the use of two Thunderbolt ports. Note that this requires the version of the 15-inch MacBook Pro with the AMD Radeon R9 M370X. That graphics chip is also required to operate Single-Stream 4K displays with a resolution of 4096x2160 at 60Hz. Apple's new MacBook Pro launched earlier this month. It features the new Force Touch trackpad, along with faster flash storage, longer …

If you use location sharing with family and friends, you'll want to make sure iOS is sharing from the right device. There are lots of reasons you may want to share your location through the Messages app or Find My Friends. For example, sharing a location is a lot faster than manually typing out a location to someone. If you have more than one iOS device, maybe an iPhone and an iPad for example, you may want to change which one is used for default location sharing. Location sharing works for almost all devices but in order to use some features of location sharing, like Family Sharing, you'll have to be running iOS 8 or newer. It's also worth noting that if you're i…

Here's how the iMore team uses their Apple products for daily productivity. Though we all use Apple's Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch in our day-to-day work lives, that routine varies from person to person. Apple's bid to remove the antitrust monitor installed at the company has been rejected by a federal appeals court. Apple's efforts to remove Michael Bromwich, the antitrust monitor appointed to the company by a U.S. federal judge, have been rejected by an appeals court. Bromwich was installed at the company following a court's finding that Apple had violated U.S. antitrust law in their ebook deals with publishers. The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals held that an early rejection of the bid was not an abuse of judicial discretion, according to Reuters: The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York said a lower court judge did not abuse her discretion in rejec…

Jeff Williams, Apple's Senior Vice President of Operations, said at Re/code's Code Conference that native apps for the Apple Watch will arrive in the fall. Speaking at the Code Conference, Apple's SVP of Operations Jeff Williams revealed that developers would get a preview of an SDK for building native Apple Watch apps. Unlike current watch apps, these apps will not solely rely on the iPhone to run, and will have access to some of the Apple Watch's sensors. Williams said that developers will get a preview of this at WWDC 2015, with a release coming this fall. From Re/code: He also confirmed that Apple will release a preview next week of a developer kit that wi…

Apple has rolled back networking code in the latest Yosemite beta to technology used since Jaguar. On Tuesday Apple released a new beta version of OS X Yosemite. The new 10.10.4 release, build 14E26a, went into the hands of developers and Mac users who are signed up for Apple's AppleSeed public testing program. And it makes an important change to OS X's underlying network technology that may yield improvements for those of us who have been suffering a host of problems for the past several months. Specifically, a key piece of networking code called discoveryd is gone. In its place is mDNSResponder, the old code that was in Mavericks and every OS X release since Mac…

Here's what you need to know about preventing and recovering from the iOS 8 Unicode crash bug. While Apple is working on a fix for the bug that causes Messages and notifications to crash iOS 8, there are several things you can do right now to help prevent your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch from being affected, and to try to recover if you've already been affected. Unless you have reason to believe you're a target, you probably only need to do this until your friends' attention span lapses and they move on to the next prank. We've had luck with these methods. They may or may not work for everybody. Other people may or may not have had luck with other methods, up to …

Google will be indexing apps for iPhone and iPad, which will let users open specific app content from a Google search. In both the Google Search and Chrome apps for iPhone and iPad, users will have the ability to open another app based on the search they have performed. For instance, if you do a search for making a reservation at a specific restaurant, your results may give you the option to make the reservation on that restaurant's page in the OpenTable app. Indexed content will begin appearing in search results over the next few weeks, according to Google: Starting today, we're bringing App Indexing to iOS apps as well. This means users on both Android a…

I can't help but keep coming back to the Watch: There are problems to solve, challenges to face. Why not write about them? I've seen a number of complaints lately while browsing Twitter — and even iMore's own forums — about the sheer volume of Apple Watch coverage undertaken by this site and others. Though we've done these kinds of massive rollouts before for the iPad, and the iPhone before it, only a few million people have a Watch in their hands right now. Others have little to any desire to try one on, let alone own one. So why do we keep talking and writing about this tiny auxiliary device when so few have it in their possession? Why is it so interesting? Cha…

  25. Few options at hand as screen is locked, buttons don't work. A stubborn piece of police scareware holds Android devices hostage until a fee is paid via Money Pak and PayPal My Cash transfers, and it increases the ransom to $1,500 / €1,400 if users attempt to unlock the device on their own. The nasty threat arrives via an email message claiming to deliver an update for Adobe Flash Player, and immediately after installation, it plasters a fake FBI warning on the screen and locks the device, motivating the action with a claim that the user accessed websites featuring adult content. Ransom jumps from $500 to $1,500 To make the message more credible, the attackers at…
