This works especially well for locations that don't necessarily have perfect addresses — say, a spot along the beach, or a certain store in an outdoor mall. How to send your location with Apple Watch Open the Messages app. Tap the conversation you want to send a location to, or press firmly on the display to start a new message with a new contact. For the latter, you'll need to send a quick text message before y…

The Apple Watch is a hot cup of convenience

As I pull the car into the Starbucks drive-thru, my husband says, "Oh, sorry, I thought you said you wanted coffee." "Close enough," I tell him, and order a grande coffee with cream. He orders a breakfast sandwich. It's a Saturday morning and our family is headed to the beach for the day, about an hour and a half west of Portland. That's right: we live in Portland, Oregon, hipster capital of the Pacific Northwest, where you can find some of the best coffee in the country. And yet, sometimes, we go to Starbucks. My husband, Neven Mrgan, asked me to please leave his name out of this article. In most cities, Starbucks is a perfectly acceptable place to go for coffee…

Alternative calendar app Fantastical will soon make its way to the Apple Watch. Developer Flexibits has offered a teaser for Fantastical, its calendar app for iPhone. The developer doesn't mention a release date, simply saying that the watch app is "coming soon". We can glean a little information about the app from the teaser. When viewing a specific task, it seems that Fantastical for Apple Watch will show a horizontal timeline of your day to highlight when your events start, even if it doesn't display the names of all of your events. Fantastical is one of our favorite iPhone calendar apps, and it will be interesting to see what Flexibits does with the Apple…

Apple said to be gathering new map data to reduce reliance on partners
by Guest Joseph Keller- 0 replies

Apple is reportedly in the process of gathering their own mapping data to build the next generation of their Maps service. Apple has reported deployed specially equipped vans in order to build up their own mapping database, which would reduce the company's reliance on third parties like TomTom. This would seem to be a large-scale version of the approach the company is reportedly taking with indoor mapping. From 9to5Mac: For end users, this change will mean more accurate and rapidly updated data. For Apple, this means more control over the core user experience, and, consequently, less of a need to rely on partners for data to be updated. Apple is notably taking…

How to stop Facebook from constantly tracking and recording your location
by Guest Allyson Kazmucha- 0 replies

Use Nearby Friends? If you don't want Facebook for iPhone tracking your every move, you're going to want to change your settings. I like using Facebook to share what I want, when I want, and it's fair game. But many of us don't fancy a social network tracking our every move, even privately. If you use Facebook's Nearby Friends feature, however, you may be at risk of just that. If you'd prefer not to have a personal map of every place you've been accessible via your Facebook account, here's how to change your settings and put the social network back in its place. Whenever I update Facebook, I do a quick sweep through the account section of the Facebook for iPhone a…

Although Microsoft Edge is still labeled Project Spartan in the latest build of Windows 10 its development continues in each new build of Windows 10 and yesterday's build 10130 is no exception. Project Spartan now includes the ability to play videos in full screen, without the chrome showing anymore, and the option to pin open browser panes such as Cortana, Reading List and Favorites. One feature that has become a lifesaver in Internet Explorer 11 that is not yet part of Project Spartan aka Microsoft Edge is a warning when you try to close a browser window that has multiple tabs open. Today while I was checking out the new build I did like I have in past builds -…

It has been just less than 24 hours since the Ring Master, Gabe Aul along with his Windows Team colleagues, surprised Windows Insiders around the world with a Friday Windows 10 Insider Preview release. This new build, 10130, follows just nine days after Insiders gained access to another Fast Ring build - 10122. It is rumored that Microsoft will RTM Windows 10 in July and with that date approaching their focus on these latest builds is to clean up the UI and take care of any bugs. In this latest build there is a lot of evidence of the UI being tweaked and cleaned up. Some of these changes we are seeing may not yet be the final state but it appears they are listen…

If you're fresh from Windows, you're probably used to right-clicking your mouse to pull up contextual menus and other actions. You can do the same on the Mac, even without a right mouse button. Here's how! If you've just switched to the Mac, you may find yourself a bit confused by how the Mac's mice and trackpad work. Microsoft’s Windows 10 operating system will include an app that lets iPhone and Android users sync their devices with their desktop. Will Microsoft really give away Windows 10 following its release date? And will the free upgrade stand after the 12-month grace period? The answer to the second question was provided by Windows chief Terry Myerson in a recent blog. “Once a customer upgrades, they will continue to receive ongoing Windows innovation and security updates for free, for the supported lifetime of that device,” Myerson wrote. Picking up on this good news, GHacks.net published a…
