When I think of Virgin Atlantic and its brand, the first thing that comes to mind is adventurous. A brand that is willing to do things differently, to take risks, and above all make a flight an incredible, unforgettable adventure. With that in mind they came to us with a very specific objective in mind: come up with a new way to help their sales team engage with business customers and business travelers outside of traditional marketing and sales tactics that don’t provide the transformational impact they need. They wanted to give their team a sales tool to tell their story in a unique and unexpected way – to allow travelers to actually see and feel what a travel adventure…

Microsoft to acquire Secure Islands, a leader in data protection technology
by Guest Takeshi Numoto- 0 replies
Furthering Microsoft’s investments in security technology, I am pleased to announce today that Microsoft has signed an agreement to acquire Secure Islands, an innovator in advanced information protection solutions. This acquisition accelerates our ability to help customers secure their business data no matter where it is stored – across on-premises systems, Microsoft cloud services like Azure and Office 365, third-party services, and any Windows, iOS or Android device. Businesses continue to face challenges protecting their data in a world where information travels beyond the boundary of the corporate network and across many devices outside company control. To work …

The new ransomware variant encrypts and scrambles file names, making it harder to know what to recover. The ransomware, which upon install encrypts files making it almost impossible to regain access, now scrambles file names making it even harder for victims to know which files are which. System restore points are also erased, taking away the option of returning to a previously saved state. Adding insult to injury, the malware also mocks the user, congratulating the user for becoming [sic] "part of large community," according to BleepingComputer, which first detailed the changes. The ransomware continues to use bitcoin as the means of payment, which like in p…

When I'm texting a friend, I never ask "can I touch your...?" It turns out, however, that both Apple and Microsoft have me covered in a variety of ways if I do want to... touch things. Microsoft's latest Windows 10 Mobile operating system has a clever way of suggesting words based on whatever was entered previously. So, for example, if you write "can I touch your" it will bring up a variety of words it thinks you'll want to use. If you're using a US keyboard then these could be face, house, phone, and even mom or body. Mom is clearly a weird one, but the UK keyboard gets a little more racy: lips, pussy, boobs, and body are the top suggestions. These suggestions are cre…

It was a good week for Master Chief, and for U.S. service members seeking to master IT skills to help them transition from military to civilian life. Let’s get to it! The Microsoft Software & Systems Academy (MSSA) is expanding from three locations to nine, and will be servicing 12 military installations. The MSSA program uses a service member’s time prior to transitioning out of the service to train him or her in specialized technology management areas like server cloud/database, business intelligence and software development. After successfully completing the program, participants have an interview for a full-time job at Microsoft or one of its hiring partners. “…

by Guest Gabe Aul- 0 replies

Hi everyone, Today we are releasing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 10586 to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring. This build is really focused on bug fixes and general improvements. We’ve been loving this build in our internal rings as it is very fast and smooth, and makes a great daily driver. Here are some things we have fixed: The issue where any audio playing (like music from Groove, or videos from the Movies & TV app) gets reduced by 75% for a period of time after a notification pops up from Action Center is fixed. Pressing the power button on your Surface Pro 3 should put your Surface Pro 3 to sleep instead of shutting it down. We fixed an issue repor…

The cloud is changing the world, offering enterprises, independent software vendors (ISVs) and developers alike endless scale, speed and agility in a cost-effective way. I’ve been talking with customers about “why cloud” for years. Recently there has been a shift in these conversations, as the benefits have become undeniable. Now, for customers everywhere, the new question is “how cloud.” “How cloud” comes down to customers embracing the cloud on their terms. This shows up in two primary challenges that exemplify the importance of our partnership with Red Hat. Businesses continue to grapple with the challenge of bringing together existing on-premises investments wi…

Opening doors for service members and the tech industry
by Guest Chris Cortez- 0 replies

In the coming years, the technology industry is facing a shortage of candidates who are trained and qualified for the roles needed to build the innovative devices, online services and business infrastructure of the future. At the same time, U.S. military service members transitioning to civilian life find themselves challenged to translate their military skills and accomplishments into terms that employers can understand, and to identify the careers that will help them support their families and build a rewarding future. Microsoft is aiming to bridge that gap: to add a layer of technical training that brings transitioning service members into employer networks and civilia…
