VIM - basic set up
by Guest Chup- 0 replies

EDIT I've only just seen the help part in the plug in manager! I'm going to have a read of that tomorrow, bit late here now! Any advice welcome, or referencing to parts of that manual.... cheers How do... I'm guessing there are some VIM users in here? I'm only just starting, and I don't really get what the deal is with all the plugin's and stuff along those lines. I've downloaded some plugins, but I don't actually know how to (a) see what they do before I download them (I just search for 'color' or something) (b) use them once they're downloaded. I downloaded one called zephire color, or something along those lines. I just wanted some more …

Python path issues in Terminal
by Guest Qaaolchoura- 0 replies
Hi, I've had a problem with Python in the Terminal which I've known for awhile, but always avoided by using IDLE. Unfortunately, I'm trying to learn Django, which isn't IDLE-compatible (and doesn't even like working in Python mode in the Terminal) so I need to fix it. The problem is this: Python, as accessed by the Terminal's "python command" is stored under user/local/lib Python's packages, as installed by apt-get, aptitude, or pip, install under user/lib Thus, I can't import packages from the terminal without changing the path, and the path only stays changed for one python session. After looking up how to modify the path permanently, and finding at least one …

djay partners with Spotify, adds 20 million tracks, takes iPhone and iPad mixing and matching...
by Guest Rene Ritchie- 0 replies

djay, the Apple Design Award-winning music mixing app for iPhone and iPad, has just been updated to version 2.5 and the game-changing news is this — they've partnered with streaming music service Spotify and their 20 million track library and, what's more, created technology that lets you quickly, perfectly mix and match all of it. Imagine an old school DJ crate filled with vinyl. Now image it's bottomless. Now imagine a selection of perfectly matched songs is always on the very top just waiting for you to grab and spin. That's djay 2.5. Karim Morsy and Michael Simmons gave me a short demo of the djay + Spotify integration — a good thing because I have absolutely no mu…

Apple fixes server-side iMessage bug, will fix additional bug in future software update
by Guest Rene Ritchie- 0 replies
Apple has fixed a server-side bug in iMessage, their SMS/MMS-like instant messaging service for iOS and OS X, which was causing some problems, and they're going to be fixing an additional client-side bug in a future software update. Those fixes should help make for smoother, faster transitions for people who want iMessage turned off, for example when leaving the iPhone for another smartphone. That's according to statement given to Ina Fried at Re/code: "We recently fixed a server-side iMessage bug which was causing an issue for some users, and we have an additional bug fix in a future software update," Apple told Re/code in a statement. "For users still experiencing…

by Guest James Richardson- 0 replies
Good news for UK smartphone owners that are on the EE network. From July 1st if you travel into Europe your roaming bills are going to be a wee bit cheaper! Roaming charges have traditionally been ridiculously high in all parts of the world but thanks to the European Union working towards reducing the costs for travellers we are now making some real progress. From 1st July the new EE charges will be as follows: Sending a SMS - 4.9p Making a call - 15.6p per minute Receive a call - 4.1p If you don't take advantage of one of EE's data packages then you will be charged no more than 16.5p per MB Data add-ons start from just £2.50 per …

Any.do task manager for the web is here, launches today
by Guest Richard Devine- 0 replies
Any.do has been around for some time now keeping our to-do lists in perfect order – and sync – across our mobile devices. Today sees the release of the service's very first fully fledged web application – there is already a pretty decent extension available for Google Chrome – bringing your productivity to whichever computer and whichever browser you're using at any time. We've had a little sneaky peek at the new app already, so head on past the break to take a look. The first time you load it up, it's typical Any.do. An insanely simple layout, white backed with the odd interjection of its trademark blue. With the arrival of the web app comes the arrival of a …

Vodafone sweetens its 4G offerings with free Netflix for six months
by Guest Richard Devine- 0 replies
Vodafone UK has today announced a partnership with Netflix that will see customers receiving a free six month subscription to the video-on-demand service. Anyone signing up to a Vodafone Red 4G contract beginning in July – and lasting until the end of the year – will be given the option to receive the perk. Of course, the beauty here is that Netflix is available on such a wide range of devices – including games consoles, set-top boxes and smart TVs – once your account is set up. To take advantage you'll need to start a new contract costing above £26, but if you're due to get a new one in the latter part of this year then it might be worth your consideration. The f…

Upgrading RAM Dell Dimension 4700
by Guest DonAmerex- 0 replies

Hello everyone, Ok I will try to type this again. The first time I tried to type this my Surface froze up for no reason and had to be improperly shut down. Ok, I am going to upgrade the RAM on my Dell Dimension 4700 and I need some help and advice before I do. My Dell says it has 0.99 GB RAM installed. I looked inside and found that it has two sticks of 512 MB RAM. I found 2GB RAM (2 sticks of 1GB) for Dell Dimension 4700 at amazon.com and am planning on buying that. So when I upgrade the RAM do I pull out the two sticks of 512MB and replace them with the new 2 sticks of 1GB from amazon? Are there any precautions I should take? (Besides wearing a anti-static wrist band…

Surface RT Apps Not Installing
by Guest KJabs- 0 replies
Backstory: So, I made the silly error of over-filling my Surface with videos because I was travelling. This left the internal storage almost full, and as temp files filled up the drive actually got completely full and showed 0B free in Computer. I believe this is when the problem started happening. I have since freed up several GB of space, and the problem hasn't fixed itself. Problem: 24 Metro apps uninstalled from my computer, without reason, warning, or explanation. Some of these are apps that are built in and come with the tablet, and others are ones I've downloaded. If I go into the Store and go to Account, they show up under My Apps (Apps not installed o…

Traditional Chinese IME: entering double byte punctuation
by Guest Cayman1021- 0 replies

I run Windows 8. (not 8.1) Don't know why that my New Phonetic Traditional Chinese IME always switches to double-byte sometimes. I can't figure out why it would happen or what keys I had pressed. Usually if I frequently type Chinese and chat with others, there's high chance to happen. I tried: 1. Shift+Space 2. Ctrl + Alt 3. Tab 4. CapsLock 5. CapsLock + Space 6. Ctrl + Shift Switched back to English mode and tested all above combination keys, but in vain. None of them triggered to double-byte. So I have NO IDEA WHAT THE **** is going on that it automatically switches to double-byte. Maybe it's a IME bug? Split from- https:/…

Windows 8
by Guest donaleman- 0 replies

II was warned before buyingmy new computer that I should not get Windows 8 as it was ahooror and now, know some reasons why but Microsoft has made it almost impossible to down grade to Windows 7 . Additionally, here in Thailand, many , ( thousands actually ), use an Air Card to get Internet connection and W-8 does NOT work with Air cards. Amazing since most computers sold since 10/2012 have 8 installed and no way for the user to get rid of it. If you don't have 8, don't get it. *** Email address is removed for privacy *** Continue reading...

whea_uncorrectable_error while running multiple game clients simultaneously
by Guest DarbyPentacle- 0 replies
A few months back, my system started to get whea_uncorrectable_error when playing Everquest. I play on the Emulation servers and I would run between 6 and 12 game clients simultaneously. Always worked just fine. Now, however, I can only run 4 without worry of crashing the system. If I run extra fans I might be able to run 6 but it is still likely that I will get a crash now and then. Unfortunately, I don't recall if there had been any major changes to the system before this started. So, I created another system on a new hard drive and it was only for gaming. So to run EQ, I would boot to this new system and it seemed to work a little better for a while, but then it…

by Guest Pampro- 0 replies

Using Windows Media Player 12 on Windows 7 PC I'm finding that the tops and bottoms of videos are cut off when played with WMP12. I can find no possible adjustment controls in the program. This does not change when I view in a window or full screen. I use two of these PCs side by side. The older one (1.5 years older) using the same configuration (WMP12 on Windows 7) renders the video correctly. How can I make the newer machine show the entire video? Continue reading...

I am wondering if anyone can help. I recently installed some new updates and had them going overnight, I woke up the next morning and since then have been unable to boot my Lenovo G780 laptop. It is a new machine so I do not have any restore points, It will not allow me to boot in Safe Mode, I have tried StartUp Repair multiple times but it is unable to repair, I do not have an installation disk as Windows 7 was already on the machine. I am wondering if there are any solutions which a/ do not involve me having to "wipe" the machine, or b/ involve me re-buying Windows 7. Is there any way I can create a system restore disk (please forgive me if this is the incorrect term…
