Windows 8 Setup cannot complete due to ActionableReport.html opening in web browser
by Guest Usunoro- 0 replies

Hello, So I'm trying to use the Windows 8 Setup to upgrade from Windows 7 to 8. However, when I get to the last step (where you reboot to begin installing), the report it generates opens in my web browser. Since it opens in the web browser, the buttons do nothing, and manually restarting also does nothing at all. So, I cannot actually upgrade from 7 to 8. Continue reading...

Windows 8 freezes when windows 8.1 upgrade is offered
by Guest PaulyCC- 0 replies
Microsoft barges onto my computer once in a while to offer me an upgrade to 8.1. Having read reviews I do not believe it is a useful upgrade for me and I don't want to spend days re-installing 3rd party software. I always reject the offer. But once in a while my computer freezes as soon as the offer appears. I have the little spinning WAIT circle spinning and I can do nothing else on the computer. There seems to be no way to make it go away short of rebooting or logging out. Is there a way to prevent this from getting this offer in the first place or an easy way to undo this freeze? files missing in one drive
by Guest JenniferMoylan- 0 replies

Why is it that I have files on my PC in a folder on my desktop called "OneDrive" that are not there when I access OneDrive through hotmail? I must be missing some key part to uploading there but 90% of my documents, when saved to the desktop OneDrive are accessible anywhere when I go through my hotmail account to onedrive. Of course the things I really *need* often aren't there. Continue reading...

My Computer won't read anything I plug into the right side of it.
by Guest Huskiewuv123- 0 replies

So I've been having problems with the right side of my computer. It has two USB ports and the CD/DVD drive. At first when I plugged USBs in and it didn't work, I thought maybe the port is messed up. Then I put a CD into my computer and the green light flashed and it made that noise it makes when I put a CD in but the AutoPlay thing didn't pop up. So I went to device manager and there is no section that says CD/DVD. I troubleshooted my computer but it still doesn't work. It's getting really frustrating! Continue reading...

I just installed win 8.1 and seems to have left me with less control than ever. I can't turn off auto. maintenance and I went through previous post on deleting the tree but this left maintenance unable to start manually. Also when on a secure intranet I always turn off several windows processes from the task manager because of high 3-D content but now it says 'operation could not be completed, access is denied. This did not occur w/ win 8. I have all admin control. Please help, Continue reading...

Stay with dual boot
by Guest NGIB- 0 replies

Been trying very hard to leave Windows behind for good but sadly there are a few simple things no Linux distro can do. Like manage playlists on an MP3 player, Android device, or Ipod. I spent nearly 5 hours a week ago battling my son's new Ipod classic and the only solution was to reload Windows and run Itunes. I tried a few distros and thought that Mint came the closest - at least it could see the Ipod. Messing with an Apple product is always tough but at least I can get it done with Windows. Windows with Winamp handles all these players with ease. The latest adventure was when I tried to connect my Samsung Galaxy Player to Mint this morning (as an MTP device) and Banshe…

Question about X window system "XmCreateMainWindow"
by Guest three_white- 0 replies
Hi, I'm dealing with a problem on Linux (Red Hat 4.4.7-4) which is related to X window system. In my program, I use: "main_w = XmCreateMainWindow (toplevel, "main_w", NULL, 0);" to create a main window and I find that the window id value of the first child of main_w is a very large integer "267110801680". I use the command below to find this number when I debug it in DDD: print *(((CompositeWidget) main_w)->composite)->children[0] This large integer results in a memory problem when I use Valgrind to check the memory leakage which is "Invalid read". The abnormal large integer should be a return value from "XmCreateMainWindow" and is it related to m…

Lies that whisper in my ear
by Guest SkittleLinux18- 0 replies
As a clinical mental health counselor, and one of the few who specializes in philosophy, I see many of the lies that go unnoticed in my field. The biggest one of them all being Cognitive-Behavoiral Therapy (CBT). For those of you who don't know, CBT is a type of therapy that says all of your emotional and psychological problems stem from what's called "cognitive distortions", or thinking errors--systematic errors in information processing. In other words, a person doesn't have depression because their life sucks, they just <i>think</i> their life sucks. Never mind all the real-world, real-life facts that may adequately explain why a person's life could suck…

How to partition your Mac to test OS X Yosemite
by Guest Peter Cohen- 0 replies
Installing Yosemite? It's a beta. Put it somewhere it's not likely to cause problems — here's how Regardless of whether you're using the Developer Preview or the forthcoming public beta, bear in mind that OS X Yosemite is beta software. It's best not to install it as the primary operating system on your only Mac, so here are instructions for making a new partition to run it from. This way, Yosemite will be isolated from the rest of your Mac — even if something drastically bad happens, the only bad thing that should happen will be to that partition, not to your entire machine. Before you partition your drive or install Yosemite on your Mac, back it up using Time…
