More Keyboard Layout Questions
by Guest WhitePhoenix- 0 replies
I have been looking over the /user/share/X11/xkb/share/us file and have a few questions. For the USA - ClassmatePC (International) layout the creator used the RCtrl key since the keyboard he was using didnt have an AltGr key. However all he did was enter include "level3(switch)" in place of include "level3(ralt_switch)". How does the system know to use RCtrl when all it says is switch? I also prefer not using AltGr since my keyboard has no AltGr key and I would rather have the flexibility to use either Alt key by substituting Ctrl+Alt for the RAlt/AltGr key. Does leaving out include "level3(ralt_switch)" do this? When I*used Microsoft Keyboard Layout Cre…

Finally got ArchBang installed but it's being a total PITA.
by Guest TNFrank- 0 replies
Well, after about 5 tries I managed to get ArchBang installed. Took some doing but I got all the gpg keys installed and fixed. Got the mirrors that I want uncommented out so I can download stuff(well most stuff) and I finally have Firefox 29 set up a bit better so I can use it. USB's don't show up on the desktop when they're plugged in even though it looked like they're suppose to by what I saw in settings. No idea if I can even change the clock to 12 hour time from the 24 hour setting and it seems I can add nothing to panel and can't move it from the bottom of the screen. Openbox it totally strange to me so I'm pretty much lost trying to use it. I did get hardinfo …

by Guest bcostacurta- 0 replies

Hello, I implemented the following in Postfix file main.cf (note : Postfix version is 2.9.6 under Debian Squeeze). address_verify_map = btree:/var/lib/postfix/verified_senders The file is created, opened and filled correctly by Postfix. However few times per day following message appears in the Postfix log : close database /var/lib/postfix/verified_senders.db: No such file or directory (possible Berkeley DB bug) I 'googled' on this but found nothing really clear about this message, neither a way or explanation about who to correct this. Thanks for attention. Bruno Continue reading...

Dr. Dre fuels Beats acquisition rumors, references billions of Apple bucks in video
by Guest Rich Edmonds- 0 replies
A video posted by actor Tyrese Gibson featuring hip-hop star Dr. Dre is adding fuel to $3.2 billion Apple/Beats negotiation rumors. In the video, Dre says: "The first billionaire in hip-hop, right here from the motherf**king West Coast." The video in question was originally posted to Gibson's Facebook page but was taken down, though it's still available on YouTube. Note that there's strong language so do proceed to watch through if you're not easily offended. Beats Electronics is in an interesting position. Not only would Apple take control of its premium (arguably overpriced) headgear accessories, but also its new Beats Music on-demand streaming service. …

by Guest Rich Edmonds- 0 replies
Apple has hired Ari Partinen, former senior camera engineer at Nokia for their Lumia Pureview system, presumably to work on the next generation of iPhone and iPad cameras. Word of the move came from Partinen himself on Twitter: Today will be my last day working for the amazing #Lumia family. In June I will start a new chapter in Cupertino, California. Much love! — Ari Partinen (@Partinen) May 9, 2014 Partinen confirmed in a reply that the company he's moving to in Cupertino is indeed Apple. @bharadc23 Thank you for great discussions and feedback! (And it is the company you are thinking assuming you are thinking Apple) =) — Ari Partinen (@Partinen) May…

Netflix is in the process of sending emails to its European and US customers explaining its price increase for new subscriptions. More importantly for existing members, Netflix is committing to a 2 year freeze on any price increases, so for now at least it's a case of carry on as you are. The email in full reads as follows: Update: we've been informed that Netflix is also rolling this deal out to the US too. We'd expect everybody around the globe with Netflix access will see this price increase in short order. Good times! Hi Richard, In order to continue adding more films and TV programmes, we are increasing our price from £5.99 to £6.99 for new members. As …

iRing helps musicians control iOS music apps with their hand
by Guest Peter Cohen- 0 replies
If you're making music on an iPad, iPhone or iPod touch, have a look at IK Multimedia's new iRing. It's a gadget you slip on your finger that tracks motion. You use it to control music apps with hand gestures. It costs $24.99. This isn't a ring you wear on your finger. It actually goes between your fingers. It's double-sided, too. One side is printed with a pattern of three dots, and the other side has a triangular pattern of three dots. In conjunction with the FaceTime camera on your device, apps designed to support iRing help determine the position of the ring in space. The apps track your movement. IK Multimedia says a single user can use two rings simultaneous…

8.1 Ugrade Locked me out of my laptop
by Guest Bobsmith235667- 0 replies
When I upgraded to 8.1, which I was prompted and encouraged to do so by the automatic updater, after an hour of rebooting, it forced me to enter personal information to proceed to my desktop. I of course entered a generic name of Bob Smith and a password I do not remember, as I assumed my old settings would remain. Now of course I am completely locked out of my computer. This is absurd, this will make me a Mac user for sure, there is not reason I need to associate my personal computer with an online account, I should have the freedom to use my personal hardware without being connected to the internet, I had not idea windows 8.1 was really just a chrome book designed to st…

Desktop background slideshow leaks GDI Object handles?
by Guest TimoKinnunen- 0 replies

I have about 5500 desktop background wallpapers which I've set in a desktop background slideshow which changes every 30 seconds. After a while, a day or two, the taskbar show/hide animation is no longer smooth and all graphics start to feel sluggish. Using Process Explorer from www.sysinternals.com I can see that explorer.exe is using a huge number of GDI Objects, and the number goes up by 1 every time the desktop background changes. Here's a screenshot: My question: is this a bug in Windows? Continue reading...
