Overview: The managed identities can be used both in the Azure Batch Account and Azure Batch Pool, which may cause confusion in some situations. This blog is aimed to help you understand the differences between the usage of the managed identity in the Azure Batch Account and in the Azure Batch Pool. The managed identity configured on the Batch account only grants permission for the Azure Batch Account to authenticate to other services but not for Azure Batch nodes (or Pool VMs). If the purpose is to grant the Azure Batch nodes access to other Azure resources, then you are looking for the managed identity configured in the Azure Batch Pool. Outline: Overall…

We are pleased to announce that we will start deploying RDP Shortpath for public networks on September 6th. We anticipate the regional deployments will be complete by the end of September, first delivering the feature to validation host pools before going live in production host pools. RDP Shortpath improves the transport reliability of Azure Virtual Desktop connections by establishing a direct UDP data flow between the Remote Desktop client and session hosts. This feature will be enabled by default for all customers. What is RDP Shortpath for public network? RDP Shortpath lets user sessions directly establish a Unified Data Platform (UDP) flow between client and…

In the last 3 years, the SQL Security team has put more emphasis on enabling customers to use SQL Server while adhering to the Principle of least Privilege (PolP). As part of that effort, all new features in the next SQL Server release: SQL Server 2022, can be controlled with more granular permissions. SQL Ledger is a good example of such a new feature. It comes with separate permissions for creating (ENABLE LEDGER) vs dropping ledger tables (ALTER LEDGER); a separate permission to view ledger content (VIEW LEDGER CONTENT) for auditing purposes; and another independent permission to generate a ledger digest (GENERATE LEDGER DIGEST). Besides new features, a lot of effor…

In this post, I share my recent experience with trying out machine learning including resources I used, my takeaways, and where I would want to go next with learning about ML. Approaching ML Recently, my team and I got started with exploring machine learning. We started with reading this awesome introductory blog post, ”Machine Learning for Everyone.” This served as a map of what kind of capabilities exist under the umbrella of machine learning and helped clear up some of the mysticism that often surrounds terms like machine learning and AI. Our interest was specifically ways we could apply neural networks to healthcare as a follow up to our project, Chest…

The CI/CD in ADF uses ARM (Azure Resource Manager) templates that contain the pipeline, dataset, linked services, triggers, etc. definition. The deployments require turning off all the triggers in the data factory using PowerShell (PrePostDeploymentScript.ps1). Most of the time, this is okay. Still, when you had mission-critical pipelines, say an event trigger-based or a pipeline that required zero-latency start, it may cause latency or even loss of events due to the triggers being turned off during deployments. The problem gets worse when deployments take longer. While it is essential to turn off the updated triggers for a safe deployment since those contai…
