We’re excited to announce the release of Network HUD - A new feature that proactively identifies and remediates operational networking issues on Azure Stack HCI. Network HUD is available in the November update for both 21H2 and 22H2 Azure Stack HCI subscribers! Running and maintaining a network for your business applications is a hard job. Ensuring a workload is stable and optimized requires coordination across the physical network (switch, cabling, NIC), host operating system (e.g., virtual switch, virtual NICs, etc.), and of course the application that runs inside the VMs or Containers. Each of those have their own configurations, have different capabilities, and…

In our first article we introduced Network HUD as a new feature that proactively identifies and remediates operational networking issues on Azure Stack HCI. We also discussed Network HUD’s unique on-premises cloud-service model which enables us to bring new features and capabilities (more than just bug fixes) rapidly through what we call, “content updates.” Well, it’s official. The November content update has arrived! So, in this article, we’ll dive into the new capabilities that Network HUD gains with the November content update. This content update (version 1.0.0 and later), includes: Detection of PCIe bandwidth oversubscription Detection of an unstab…

In some special cases, we may notice that there is a network path error when mounting an Azure storage in an App Service. Error Message: The network path was not found According to the message itself, it is more likely to be a network problem, so we can find some clues regarding such an area. Clue 1: Check domain resolving behavior and network connectivity Just like most of the network related cases, we firstly want to verify the connectivity between resources, in this case, we could use kudu in app service and try to reach out the storage account. nslookup <your_storage>.file.core.windows.net nameresolver <your_storage…

In order to set up this KEDA integration, below are the steps you will accomplish as you go through this blog: Create a storage account and retrieve and save the connection string, this will be used in a later step. Create a queue called ‘test-queue’ in the storage account. Use the C# code below that will allow you to hydrate a queue in the storage account with messages. You may alter the number of messages in the for loop as you see fit, it need not be 350, that is just an example number used here. The ARM template that you will use to deploy the queue reader container that will be deployed to Azure Container Apps. This queue reader container has code that reads me…

If you are interested to replace Microsoft Community Training (MCT) home page with any other custom home page that you have built, you can easily achieve that with a simple set of steps. To get started, you need to have a custom home page designed for it to be linked to MCT instance. Here is a sample design for MCT Custom Homepage Note Azure subscription should be same subscription where MCT is deployed. These steps would need ‘Contributor’ access for the Azure subscription. This custom home page needs to be hosted in same azure subscription where MCT is deployed. You need to have the Storage Account of the type "General-purpose v2" to get the static webs…

Azure DDOS network protection provides security for services deployed in virtual networks against volumetric attacks by way of always-on traffic monitoring and adaptive real time tuning. This may be achieved by applying DDOS protection plans to the different virtual networks in the different architectural tiers such as the Hub and Spoke network, Windows N-tier and Paas Web App architectures. Management of Azure services involves careful planning around available resources. One capability that is often requested by Azure DDoS protection customers is the ability to exclude certain public IP addresses from the protection plan to accommodate their prioritized workloads. Fo…

Contributed by: Rafael Salas Moneo is Microsoft’s solution for characterizing hardware on distributed systems. To learn the basics of Moneo please visit the previous blogpost HERE We’ve recently expanded Moneo to include CPU, Memory, and Ethernet by default. This unlocks new optimization experiences for MPI workloads. We can observe how CPU and IB traffic interplay on a single node or a collection of nodes to see if the rank design should be changed. If the pre-configured metrics still don’t provide the time series telemetry needed then we also offer custom metrics, which are anything that can be polled on the node as a function call. Moneo works well…

Microsoft Azure and the 2022 Student Cluster Competition In 2007, the first Student Cluster Competition (SCC) was held at the annual ACM SC conference in Reno, NV. The competition challenged six teams of undergraduate students to work with vendor partners in building a small cluster that could run within a 26A power limit and learn how to run/optimize various real world HPC applications and benchmarks. Over the years, this competition has become a staple at the SC conference and has continued to add more challenges for teams. These have come in the form of mystery applications, reproducibility challenges, and power outages. In 2017, Microsoft collaborated with…

App Service will be rolling out a Name Reservation feature to protect customers from the threat of subdomain takeovers. The rollout is starting now (November 14th) and is expected to run through approximately December 15th. This new built-in feature creates a name reservation for web application names and for App Service Environment (ASE) names during the creation of those resources. No additional changes or configuration are needed by the customer to establish a name reservation. The name reservation for a given resource name will exist from the moment the resource is created and for a lengthy time period after the resource has been deleted (a cooldown period).…

You use ML-empowered applications without even noticing it: when clicking on product recommendations on an e-commerce website, or when consulting your navigation app to choose the best itinerary to reach a new place, for example. You, as a developer, cannot certainly ignore this evolving tendency. And if you are familiar with .NET framework, ML.NET could be an easy win! In fact, ML.NET is a framework designed for .NET developers that wish to add machine learning capabilities to their applications, without having to leave the .NET ecosystem and by writing code in the languages they are already familiar with. Cluster monitoring is essential to guarantee your users can always get performant and reliable service. One of the foundation stones for monitoring resources in Azure is metrics and specifically for Azure Data Explorer service there are some key metrics that are essential in monitoring the cluster health and performance. For example, CPU, cache utilization factor, ingestion utilization and keep alive. In this article we’ll focus on the Keep alive metric and where and how it should be used. The mechanics behind the Keep alive metric, is a basic and simple synthetic query that is being sent to the cluster every minute to verify that the cluster is responding proper…

There are a few types of Integration Runtimes: Azure Integration Runtime – serverless compute that supports Data Flow, Copy and External transformation activities (i.e., activities that are being executed on external compute, such as Databricks, and the IR acts as an orchestrator only). Self-hosted Integration Runtime (SHIR)– same software as above packaged as an MSI that you install on your own physical or virtual infrastructure. You can have up to 4 nodes in a cluster. It supports Copy and External transformation activities. Azure SSIS-IR – supports ex…
