We are happy to announce General Availability(GA) of the ability to reverse migrate an Azure SQL Database from Hyperscale tier to General Purpose tier. Previously, migration into the Hyperscale tier was a one-way migration with no easy way to move back to any non-Hyperscale tier. Reverse Migration to the General Purpose service tier now allows customers who have recently migrated an existing Azure SQL DB database to the Hyperscale service tier to move back, should Hyperscale not meet their needs. This provides additional mobility for their SQL Database data. Once in the General Purpose tier, they have the flexibility to remain on that tier or move their database to other …

Hey Folks - Do you have slow workbooks due to size bloat? If so, then I am super excited to unveil Excel Performance team’s new capability to detect and remove unwanted size bloat and speed up such workbooks. At Excel, customer focus is at the core of what we do; often this uncovers new or improved innovations in features and other times in fundamentals like Performance. In this case, we observed that over time, a workbook can collect cells that have no data but still contain hidden information of little or no use anymore. These cells may have had data and formatting to start with, however now they do not have any data, but still take up space because they contain fo…

by Guest maayanmag- 0 replies

Intro OT/IoT devices, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human-Machine Interface (HMIs), Engineering Workstations, Network Devices, and more, are becoming increasingly prevalent in organizations. Often, these devices are used as entry points for attacks, but they can also be used by attackers to move laterally. Today's CISOs and SOC teams must deal with new threats from cyber physical systems (CPS) and parts of the organization they were never previously responsible for. This is because digital business requires IT/OT connectivity, which has removed the air-gap that once existed between IT and OT. For Security Operations Centers (SOCs), m…

The evolution to hybrid work Today’s workforce is hybrid. It’s been a huge cultural shift in the global workforce. First, the abrupt pivot to remote work, and then the progression to hybrid work – this has been a positive evolution of the workplace in many ways. Greater work life balance and flexibility, reduced or no commute times, normalizing pet cameos, just to name a few. But some drawbacks to hybrid work have become apparent as well. Since the lines between work and home have blurred, your workday can often feel never-ending and burnout is a real concern. Social capital has been lost over the past few years and this connection will need to be rebuilt, whethe…

by Guest Malavika Rewari- 0 replies

Work can be hard, but how you work shouldn't be. Employees struggle with the adoption of multiple employee experience tools. Half of the employee respondents in a Forrester Consulting study commissioned by Microsoft indicated that their organization offers too many separate tools, apps, and resources to navigate; and 90% indicated a comprehensive employee platform would be valuable or extremely valuable[1]. Given how prevalent and cognitively taxing excessive toggling has become in today’s digital workplaces, this is not surprising. A study featured in the Harvard Business Review found that workers toggled roughly 1,200 times each day between apps and websites to d…

SMB authentication rate limiter now on by default in Windows Insider
by Guest Ned Pyle- 0 replies

Heya folks, Ned here again. Back in the spring of 2022 we released a new SMB preview feature: the SMB authentication rate limiter. It is available in Windows 11 Insider and Windows Server Insider builds. IT staff often enable access to the SMB server service even on machines that aren't dedicated file servers for legitimate reasons like opening remote files or copying logs. A side effect of this is that SMB becomes a way to attempt authentication. Knowing a username, an attacker can send local or Active Directory NTLM logons to a machine using common opensource tools - from dozens to hundreds of logon attempts per second - to guess a password. If your organization has no …
