My brother has a Fujitsu/Siemens Amilo with AMD Turion 64x2 processor and an Atheros AR5005G wireless network adapter, running 32-bit Vista Home Premium. There appeared to be no way to make the wifi work. It did show the list of available networks, but when he tried to connect, the message was something like "connection failed" (in a different European language). The system showed a button offering to diagnose the problem, but then the diagnosis was "connection failed for an unknown reason" (all mesages translated by me). I do hope someone can help me please. I am entirely new to Vista. While mucking around trying to figure out why a legacy program would not run, I decided to "unhide" the gateway recovery partition and somehow copy the files to a disk. Anyway, so that I would not injure the protected files I first copied the files to a D drive partition created with Partition Magic V8. I then used the Vista burner interface to prepare the files (on D) to burn a dvd. The size was over 5Gb, so it was not going to work. I baled out, but kept getting a popup that said I had files prepared for burning. So I went back into the burner window and deleted the files from the lis…

I use Multitrackstudio to record audio from a digital piano. I go from the piano headphone out to the laptop mic input. That's my only option. Then I record ok and can playback ok. I shut down Multitrackstudio. Now when I try to play anything in iTunes or Windows Media Player, nothing happens. There isn't any progress on the progress bar or audio. They seem to remain in a paused state. I have to reboot before audio works again. Any suggestions on why this happens and how it can be fixed? Thanks, Brett

I have created a Catalog in Computer Management and can query this catalog in COmputer Managemen and it works. I wanted to make this Catalog available to all users on the Network via a web page. According to Microsoft this can be done. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825487 When you use this asp script it will return the expected results in the web page but only on the WEB catalog and not the new catalog I have created. If you let it do the index of 300000+ documents it will come back and index one particular folder down the tree and ignore the rest, but there seems nothing different about that folder. When, trying to run Paint program, keep getting - There is not enough memory or resources to complete operation. I do not have any other programs running. -- maverick

I am receiving a Runtime Error 55 "File already open" every time I open a particular program (Examsoft/Softest). I have already tried 1) end tasking every open program 2) shutting down and restarting 3) disk cleanup 4) system restore to before the problem. No luck. Unfortunately, it is absolutely not an option to uninstall and reinstall the program. Any ideas? Thanks!

I saw on some else's CPU that any pictures in a folder where in a tiled view on the folder itself. Mine is currently setup where the folder view is sitting upright and is slightly open where you can see the first 2 - 3 pictures in the folder. Does anyone know how to change this to the other view?

I need some assitance. I am doing an upgrade from XPP sp2 to Vista Business. I get all the way through to the final reboot and I get a blue screen and the the system reboots. When it comes back up I get a Windows Recovery Error to boot to safe mode etc. I select boot normally and it happens again. This is a never ending cycle. I have an application that wont run if the screen resolution is higher that 1024 x 768. Right now I am running Vista Home Premium, with a beautiful Dell 22" Wide FPD, at a resolution of 1680 x 1050. I use this app fairly frequently but I dont want to leave the res at 1024x768. I noticed that the resolution can be temporairily reduced through the compatability tab of an apps link. But 640 x 480 is WAY to low for anything. Is there any way to have the OS temorairily reduce the res to some custom value for the duration of the apps session?

I have a new computer with Vista. And ever since receiving it, I can't view any photos in my email unless I download each one. I USED to be able to see what photos I was receiving. Now, nothing. Works fine on my XP computer. I tried checking Internet Options to be certain the "DISPLAY PHOTOS" was checked. It was.

We have an install that places some .net .dll's and places some 'stuff' in the registry, etc. The registration 'stuff' is written to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, which I now know is a merge of HKCU/Software/ Classes and HKLM/Software/Classes. On XP all seems OK as the registry information appears under HKCR and HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Classes (it is only set up under HKCR in the .wsi (Wise installation template file)). Now on VISTA, all looks the same after the install, but our installed PlugIn is seen as not registered by our application. Hi! So I simply can't seem to detect my serial port on the hyperterminal, although after using another device, I sensed some communication from my serial device to my pc. In both cases however, I could not see any output on the screens. And I have double-checked to make sure my connections are all ok. Does anyone please know what could be wrong? Thanks, Laure

Hola. No se que pasa que el windows XP se reinicia al apagarlo. No es un virus ya que acabo de reinstalarlo y no hay internet. Creo que ha sido después de instalar los drivers de un escaner genius que no soporta muy bien wXP ya que en panel de control->escaneres no aparece pero si en el administrador de dispositivos de hardware. So my girlfriend has a Mac and iChat is built into the OS. It works not only with other iChat users but also with AIM, Yahoo! Messenger, and a variety of others. Why is it that Vista doesn't have a client like that built into the OS? There's Windows Live Messenger, but that doesn't manage other IM clients that my friends use and I can't join in a video chat room where a host of people are all video chatting, rather than just a two-way conversation. Also, I know that programs like Gaim (which now has a new name that escapes me) manage multiple IM clients, but they're not feature complete.
