  1. Lately, I just got myself a new ASUS A7V600-X motherboard with an AMD Athlon XP (~2.6 GHz). After changing to the new motherboard, the computer ran smoothly for an hour or so. But after I left my computer for a while, I came back to find that it has been turned off and it would not start. I even tried switching back to my old motherboard (ASUS CUV4X P3 733 MHz) but this time, not even the LED light would turn on and I can't start my computer even with my old motherboard. My power supply has a max of 250W and I know it sounds like my power supply might have worn out. However, the LED light actually lights up on the A7V600-X, but when I push the power button nothing happens…

  2. I'm trying to install windows 2000 using remote installation service (RIS) but the installation keeps failing midway of the setup. I've dumped ghost images and installed Win 2K on several other drives of lower capacity without any problems. The drive which the installation is failing has 160 GB capacity and has an older build of Win 2K. I've heard that I might need to tweak the registry to enable support for large disk partitions. Has anybody else had a similar experience when installing or dumping ghost images on a remote drive? Any help is appreciated, thanks! :p

I am having a problem with Windows XP. Whenever I try to delete a file, I get a pop up saying that windows explorer has experienced an error and needs to close. It doesn't happen when I rename or cut a file. But whenever I try to delete a file, either from the right click menu or using the keyboard, explorer closes. When I run disk cleanup, it gets to "Checking Recycle Bin" explorer crashes. When I try anything to do with Recycle Bin, even looking at the properties, explorer crashes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've got an Athlon 2800+ and when I was installing drivers and programs, sometimes when i restarted the keyboard and mouse wouldn't work, so i went to asus webpage and saw that a release of a bios update fixed that. So i go and flashed the bios to the new bios and it somehow was corrupted or damaged and my computer would't start, so I put the old bios again, but now my windows xp is really slow.. it takes like 10 min to go through the logo with the bar below, and then takes even more to finalize initializing. I thought that format and installing a new windows would help, but instalation is very very slow also. What could be the problem? Ps. I start a new thread…

I've got my server running, it should be up most of the time (it does occasionaly get used for other things that need the proc time). The game for now is Onslaught, all the maps (haven't added the XP Map Pack yet, though) with Quad Jump, Sniper Rifles, and Stunt Vehicles, set to Players vs. Bots (all humans join on Blue team). Difficultly is Masterful, I'll be ratcheting to Inhuman soon as my play group is winning too much. If you want in, PM me, as I'd rather not have my IP floating around randomly.

Hey there, all the machines in my house use WinXP pro, and internet connection sharing is in use, I was just thinking, how do I set the computer using a shared connection to treat it like a normal connection, as in, when the shared connection gets cut off, all the programs using the internet (such as mIRC) will notice, and disconnect, this doesnt happen, and I have no way of knowing except for seeing the little tray icon dissapear. Thanks

Any idea about the clustering aspect of Windows Server 2003? I was thinking of testing out Beowulf clustering just to get a deeper understanding of what can i actually do with the concentrated processor power. The nagging issue with FreeBSD and stuff is Windows apps that requires a bit of juice at times and is Wondering about Windows 2003. Thanks.

To Bob, or anyone else with knowledge on this subject. On your BobSchwarz site, I asked about what kind of pipe everything ran off of. You said it was run off of a T1, with some bonded SDSL lines. How much does this kind of thing cost? I've got to believe that a dedicated T1 is pretty expensive. How do you manage to pay this off? On EXVB for instance, there is only one little banner ad at the bottom of the page. I have a hard time believing that this pays off the T1 bill. Do you have sponsors, or do these ads really make that much money? Also, is that ad service free to sign up for? Could I sign up and put that ad service on my site to generate some meag…

Im into distributed computer, cluster computing, and supercomputing. I figured I'd share my love around with all of you. Heres a few recent articles on them. Have fun. Oh, Bob. One quick question/request. I think theres a vB hack somewhere that keeps google from indexing outbound links, so you can conserve your pagerank. Figured I should let you know, since Im posting all these links. Just tell me to stop if you dont want outbound links ;)
