  8. I was reading the latest issue of Mac|Life tonight (I liked it better as Mac Addict, by the way), and it struck me how dependent Apple is on Microsoft. For all the cool things that come with Mac hardware and OS X, a large swath of the Mac user population would be crippled or wiped out if Microsoft decided to stop supporting Office for Mac. The Mac faithful (of which I am part) won't like to hear this, but it's true. OpenOffice is an excellent program (It actually is now--three years ago it was rubbish), but many of us simply couldn't use it "in production." Sure, I could run Office for Windows in Parallels' coherence mode (and almost certainly would), but that's a…

Games explorer asked me if it could connect to the internet a few days ago. Every other time it asked I said yes, but I didn't have the internet this time and it kept asking so I said no. Now that I am back online it won't get any of the game box art or any game info for the 3 games I installed on my computer, but my friend who has these same 3 games is able to get the box art and info. I check the options and it is checked for downloading information. I know this is just a minor anoyance to some people, but I like having information about my games, and the box art makes things easier for my sister to find games she likes. Any help?

What good is it? I've had multiple crashes that it didn't recognize. Just yesterday (to cite an incident), I was playing with Media Center (a program I like, by the way) watching some on-line stuff, and clicked one too many a button, and it crashed. It gave me the choice to debug or not, which made it crash even harder, because it said it didn't have anything to debug with (I don't remember what it said it needed). I'd do the 3-fingered salute, choose task manager, and I'd get a blank screen. I'd do it again, and some of the media center was there. Finally, had to force a shutdown. Did the reliability monitor pick that up? Noooooooooooooooooo. Vi…

Vista Home Premium Palm Desktop and Quick Install Treo 650 For weeks, I could install a file on my Treo by simply double-clicking on it, which would open the associated application (Quick Install), place that file in queue, and await HotSync. Or, I could drag-and-drop the file from wherever onto the Quick Install window. I then did a Bluetooth hotsync, which has been working perfectly. Suddenly, neither will work. The automatic way generates a "Windows cannot find..." response. Drag generates a circle with a bar on it. My only recourse is to pull the SD card from the Treo, slip into the slot on the laptop, and install the file that way. It work…

I hope someone can help me here. My Microphone Bar is suddenly not working. I have a Dell with WinXP that I bought a year ago. I performed the speech text exercise to be able to use the Microphone Bar with MS Word. Everything has been working fine, no problems. Then a few days ago, the Language Bar says I have to do the exercise all over again. As if the audio files associated with the speech text exercise were gone. I don't know what happened to them. So I used my Logitech headset to start the exercise again. But the Language Bar says my headset is not working with the Microphone Bar. I retested my Logitech headset per its instructions, and it is worki…

This is not brand new. Motorola has x64 drivers (both Vista and XP) for their mobile phones via USB connection. This is the web page (both x86 and x64 links): https://developer.motorola.com/docstools/USB_Drivers/ If you can't access because you have to register, just do it. It is quite simple. This is the d/l page for the x64 drivers: https://developer.motorola.com/docstools/USB_Drivers/Handset_USB_Driver_64/ Barely a 3 megs download (June 26th, v2.9.0) This way you will be to use your phone with your favourite phone manager software, eg, Mobiledit, etc. I wish I could find something similar for my Siemens mobile!
