Hi, What does everyone recommend for perfmon, benchmarks, db monitoring, and server alerting for down issues? I like sitescope but it isn't in the budget. I heard what's up gold is decent, but sitescope is much better. We have MOM now but it isn't giving us what we need/want and we want a product that will hit unix/linux as well. How about getting stats on servers that seem to start crawling a specific time of day? I can't tell if it is the server memory or the application? Some apps are oracle db's, some are sql db's? What is the best approach? Would a product like Sandra Software http://www.sisoftware.net/ help out?

Hi, What is everyone using to get stats on overall server performance, benchmarks, and server monitoring? I like SiteScope quite a bit but it isn't in the budget. The windows perfmon is Ok but just not great. I am trying to look at stats on some servers to figure out why some applications are running slow or should I say servers. We have some sql apps, oracle db based apps, citrix servers, and some others. I want to just find a decent app that will give me an idea of if the hardware is getting maxed out or if it is just the app slowing down, any idea, suggestions, web links, pointers, whatever you got, I will take it, thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

As I state din some other threads, I have had the same problemn as many where the Vista photos screen saver crashes upon use. This was not the case when I got the machine. Well, After a long time trying to figure out how to fix this, I did. MY problem (which mayu be different from yours) was due to a BAD codec that ligos installed along with some 3rd party software. All I had to do was unregister the file, and BAM.. works great once again (except certain video fdiles the saver can not play come up with a generic ico.. and this has always bene the case). it seems that the Windows Photo Gallery and Windows media player, while looking the same, are n…

Can I shorten the text file WindowsUpdate.log to only contain the info pertaining to my most recent update session? I want to do this since it contains info from MANY older update sessions that I don't need.

I do not know where to post this question. i hope this is the right place. I recently installed VS 2005 on a brand new dell with Vista on it. I am having issues with the future "Options to Implement Interface (Shift + alt + f10)" which is shown when you are deriving from an interface. For example: try follwing: class UserArrayList<T> : IList<T> {} The option shows up when i put my cursor over the IList<T> statement but when i click on the down arraow nothing happens it just disappears. its very annoying. can someone help please. Everything else works fine, including autocomplete and intellisense. thanks

Vista can run "Trend Micro AntiVirus plus AntiSpyware" (or so they say...) but NOT "Trend Micro AntiSpyware" by itself. I recieved this information (via heated phone call) of course too late. Their website does not state this clearly at all and they haven't as of yet changed it. I actually like Trend Micro AntiSpyware (it's on my XP) and I've been running it for years... that's why I wanted it on Vista but I feel they were TOTALLY missleading on their website about what is and what is NOT running on Vista. Just want other people to hopefully avoid a $59.. 6 HOUR Microsoft "tech help" call. -- The Sand

TECHNET EVAL to PRODUCTION USE WITHOUT Reinstallation (technet user!) I built a 2003 Server using my technet 2003r2 Server evaluation copy. I would like to make this a production server now. I'm in the process of purchasing a new copy of (open value )Server 2003r2 and would like to use this license without having to rebuild the server. Is there a process to apply the new license I purchased to the existing evaluation copy? I intend to use the Exchanage server 2007 as well. Thank you

Forest: Windows 2003 functional level. I just installed Server 2008 beta 3 on a test server and it is a member of the domain. I would like to make it a DC but am told I would have to run Adprep/Forestprep. Is this safe yet? I know I should use a test environment but we do not have the resources for that. I have 12 DCs and two domains.

Hi, when I navigate the web and when I try to open a link to a video I receive an IE error (which says I'm not connected) if I copy the link and paste it directly in media player then I can see the video. if I try again from IE (after a refresh) then IE try to download the page but nothing appends. this problem occurs for all the media player associated files. I'm using Vista x64 any idea? thanks. Jerome.

WinXP SP2. Running fine one moment, then started receiving the above error when trying to run programs. Rebooted, and seemed OK up to the user icon screen. Select a user and again appears normal upto the loaded "tune". After a short while hear the "Dong" (problem sound). No user programs load. Can access the Task Manager via CTRL/ALT/DEL, which shows "System" and "Network" processes running. Only taskmgr.exe and explorer.exe show as user processes. Can open Windows Explorer via Start menu or desktop icon and can navigate through all folders and see all files, just cannot execute anything. Hi. My Windows XP Professional SP2 has been removed from a domain. I have set it to be a member of a Workgroup called just that. The other systems in this Workgroup are Windows 2000 Professional SP4. On the Windows XP machine I can easily make a Network drive to a drive on the W2K maching through the Add a Network Drive Wizard say for the root //MYMACHINE/c$. But on the Windows 2000 machine I get a prompt for a Network Password when I use the Add Network Drive Wizard on it which I do not know. If I set sharing on the Windows XP machine to share a drive then in Computers Near Me on the W2K machine I see the drive I shared. But I would prefer to use the Add N…
