I am setting up our PC in my small business. One Administrator account and several Limited User accounts planned. I do not want Limited User accounts to access the any hard drive files accept programs and their own data. Currently, any Limited User can just go to the C: drive (hard drive) and open and access any folder and file, even windows directory, et cetera. Not good. Please help. Jim

I normally lock my PC when I will be away for a while by control-alt-delete and "lock computer", which has worked well until recently. Now, there is exactly a 60 second delay after I type my password to unlock the PC. It is exactly 60 sec every time, and I have tried it with antivirus, firewalls, etc shut off - always the same 60 sec delay. This leads me to believe there is a 60 second delay setting somewhere that is causing it, but I can not find it. BTW, the PC boots up at normal speed when first started. This delay only occurs when using the lock computer function. Please help. Thanks.

Hello All, I've recently bought a new PC with Vista Home Premium and Windows Media Centre already installed. The problem that I am having is that Media Centre will not read any of my pictures. I've tried the Help & Support advice, but that doesn't help. I've tried changing the 'file save as' type, also to no avail. Can anyone give me some idea as to what could be wrong, or if I'm doing something stupid? Look forward to any replies. Regards. -- David

Greeting, I have XP Pro SP2 and text editor TextPad installed on two computers. I enter some Chinese characters in a TextPad on one computer, it looked good. But when I Save it, all text became question marks. I suspect it is not saved as ANSI code, therefore after Save, the text changed to ?????. Yet on the other computer, it works just fine. I verified the settings on Regional and Languages on both PC, both have Asian Language Pack installed and Non-Unicode set to Chinese. This also happens to my programming IDE, Delphi 7. When I save Chinese Characters in D7, I can see on the 'correct" computer a character was saved as 5-digt number, on the "wrong" comput…

Hi Friends, I have a small home network, Vista Laptop -----> D-Link Ethernet Router <-------- XP Home SP2 Laptop On the XP laptop, there is a Western Digital External Hard disk, which I have shared through the home network. The problems I face, The network connection between the home PCs is very intermittent.. It works, and then it doesn't ... No idea why it stops. But once I do a ping -a to the xp laptop, the connections are restored. When I can access the shared drives, copying of files to and fro works fine.. but slow.. However, When I tried to run a program (residing on shared drives), Vista treats me with the blue screen... a cras…

Lets say you have a shortcut which points to an old document that was on an old server which doesnt exist... If you do certain things, like try to use the start menu.. it will sit there cranking for about 60 seconds or so. Is there somewhere in GPO either server or client that this "network timeout" value could be reduced? I'm not even sure what entry or option this would be... Anyone ever done this before? Thanks

I understand the concept of the Virtual Store. One question. If I have an Excel2000 file in the Virtual Store and go to that file in Explorer, then click it launching Excel, I get a file not Found message. Yet if I open Excel and do File Open and navigate to the Virtual Store, the file opens. What are the attributes of the VS file that prevent clicking it to start Excel and open the file? Also, with legacy apps like Excel2000, will changing the Properties to include Run as Administrator and Run in XPsp2 Compatibility effectively work or do I really need a .res file as stated here: ""For the purposes of this virtualization, Windows Vista treats a proc…

Hi again, I was also wondering if anyone knew of a way to set your column widths in Windows Explorer in Vista so that they stay the way you set them? i.e. "Size all columns to fit" & when you go back to Explorer the columns are the same width. Thanks, Dave.

We need to launch our applicatoin from the IConnectableCredentialProviderCredential::Connect(). I have following questions: 1. In the FAQ of Microsoft's "Sample Credential Providers Overview", Microsoft says, "USER applications may not run on the Winlogon Desktop". But I launched our application successfully. Can somebody explain what do they mean what by "user applicatoin"? 2. Continuing with the scenarios above, our application will need to impersonate itself as a specific user and access registry/filesof that user. Is this feasible? Does the impersonation operation turn our application into a "User application"? 3. When a Credential Provider is destr…
