Hi all, I work on a fairly new workstation, with fully updated XP SP2 installed. I work a lot with Hebrew, and at the beginning I had no problems. However, at some point I think the right-to-left support got screwed. I can still read and write Hebrew letters, but on certain occasions the letters are ordered backwards, from left to right. The problem seems to happen only on plain text controls. I can't use Notepad properly now (for both reading and writing), but the browser or Word display Hebrew text just fine. It should also be noted that on the problematic controls I can't change the text alignment, and it is always aligned to the left. On the ones that di…

So the power cord connected to my Seagate USB disk drive fell out in the middle of a restore job. I looked in the directory where the .bkf file was *supposed* to be and it was no longer there. Does anyone have ANY idea where the file could be? I did a search for the exact file name but it's not on my local system OR the backup drive. Side note: I was restoring the files from my backup disk to another machine on my home network (an iMac). I don't think it should matter, but thought I'd mention it. Would *really* appreciate help on this. I'm a consultant and I had client files on it. I've been trying to burn dvds all day to avoid just this issue..figures.

I have rather two questions. First, where do I query technical stuff like this(Q on Subject) about WIndows? And second the question itself. I need to get handle for the taskbar but I don't know its window name so as to use 'FindWindow'. Anyother way? The code may be specific to WinXP and may be coded in VB or C++.

I am trying to work around a temporary situation on a Windows 2003 server where group policy was misapplied. NETWORK SERVICE and LOCAL SERVICE accounts no longer have impersonate privileges and start service privilege so I need to temporarily start up services in security context of SYSTEM, get group policy working, then patch up services to run in their original contexts. I have done this before we success, but this time I'm thrown for a loop by DNS Client service, which is not able to start in NETWORK SERVICE security context. In the registry location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dnscache there are two values: ImagePath %S…

WinXP Pro SP2 New problems in version 2.0.1: 1. DigitalPersona does not always distinguish between different websites hosted by the same service provider. 2. DigitalPersona often attempts to login to websites using the credentials for a completely different website. This is easily spotted when you get a dialog saying there is more than one account for this website (when there isn't) and you can see from the account names they are for another website altogether. Notes: A. At this time I am uncertain as to whether issue #2 is a result of an error in the Import/Export functionality or an error in the product in general. B. There is no correlation be…

When I log off a user, my computer (Vista Premium x64) goes to bluescreen, but strangely enough there's no text in it. When I restart, my computer notifies me that it has recovered from an unexpected shutdown, but the log doesn't contain any bluescreen events, only that 'The previous system shutdown was unexpected.' My suspicion is that the system hangs even before writing the event, but after actually innitiating the bluescreen process, but becaues of that I can't debug. Any ideas where I should start in order to be able to debug this issue? -- Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator

Hello, I installed Vista about a month ago, and since the beginning I have this strange issue: after some hours (between 10 and 30 approx.) my computer is not able to create any TCP connection for from 30 to 180 minutes. I don't know the cause of this problem but here are the symptoms: - if I try to open any TCP connection, for instance my browser to http://www.google.fr, I get "access denied error" - active connections still work, e.g. IRC or Webradios are still up and running - my computer is accessible, for example if from another computer on the LAN I try to access the FTP server which is on my computer, there is absolutely no problem. To sum up, my …

    1. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb457060.aspx and the other 2. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314984/en-us I have come across documentation in the past stating that unless a user was running MS Small Business Server or perhaps another server offering(I forget now), that the ability to share a fax service installed on the server with other client machines was not supported. In fact I have even tried to share my fax "printer" on my home network with the result that XP says it's not supported. On further investigation I find articles through googling, that take me to MS support documents talking about sharing among other things, FAX$ service …

I have two servers that just began rebooting on a seemingly random basis (for about 2 days now). Sometimes it will happen within 15 mins of being booted up, other times it might be 6 hours between reboots. It does so without any warning, and no error messages. The only thing remaining afterwards that indicates the event is the presence of the standard event in the event log indicating an unscheduled shutdown. For example: (Source: EventLog, ID: 6008) "The previous system shutdown at 4:11:43 PM on 7/10/2007 was unexpected." I looked around in event viewer for different errors happening just before that time that might be related, but there are none... I was…
