I can open a terminal services session to a Windows Server 2003. Then from that session I can log into the file system on another Server 2000. No problem. However if I use the console of the Server 2003 directly, and attempt to log into the Server 2000 it fails with invalid login attempt. Both theses servers are on the same domain, and report to a third Server 2003 as the domain controller / active directory. Any idea why access is authenticated through terminal services, but blocked when direct access is attempted? Regards, Andyh

I regularly RDP via VPN from my home XP Pro to my office XP Pro. I use VB6 on my office PC and sometimes need to use it with my administrative account so I use RunAs via the right-click method. When I do RunAs of VB6, my explorer locks up with some broken graphics on the start bar. (I place the start bar on the left side of the display.) I get out of this by running task manager on the remote system with ctrl-alt-end, terminating explorer, and starting explorer again with the run option on the task manager. Up to this time, I had found that after a reboot, the problem did not come back right away. That is, the runas functioned as expected. Tonight I ra…

I thought this issue was related to just IE but today I realize, the issue affects my XP system in general, not just XP. I thought it was only IE because I surf mostly on the pc. I have a dual core pc, with 1 gig ram, IE 7, all patches, have and up to date antivirus and firewall and run XP Pro. While surfing the net, I find that over time, I can't open a link in a new tab. I try to open it and nothing happens. No errors whatsoever. When this first happens, I can get around it by closing one tab and then opening the one I want. Over time this doesn't work and if I have more then one copy of IE open, if I close one copy of IE, then I can open another tab. …

A number of times over the last few months, usually when there are a number of updates part way through the installation process i get a popup message stating 'Windows Modules Installer stopped working and was closed'. The installation process hangs at this point and i have to restart the computer. Running the update again finds the previous update which usually installs the second time arou…

With Vista I have a blind spot about folder views always being how I don't want them. I know that this topic has come up ad nauseam, but if someone can summarise the topic clearly and patiently I would be most grateful. In particular: 1. What types of folder template are there in Windows Vista? 2. How do I tell (other than guessing from its appearance) which template a particular folder is using? 3. If I think a folder should be using a different template how do I change it? 4. When I set up a new folder (for example by right-clicking in Windows Explorer) which template does it default to? 5. Can I directly edit, save (and lock down - see 6) the propert…
