I created a New Briefcase of the Desktop. I opened it and clicked finished and closed the Briefcase. I can't seem to save any downloads into the New Briefcase. Why? The error message I received when trying is that "This Briefcase requires a newer version of the software." Win XP Pro X64 Edition. -- thecreator

I have tried to repair my installation. I have lost the ability to create a restore point and I cannot make a back up. I have tried every solution offered to me on the NG but nothing works. A re-install seems to be the only way to me. I'm no expert on this subject but I thought it might be worth a try. I have tried to repair my installation. My Windows Gadgets have disappeared. When I click on the + sign in the sidebar, there is a ghost image of them that pops in for about a second. When I search for them on the computer, they are nowhere to be found. The option to restore installed windows gadgets is grayed out. Anyone know where I can get them back again? Thanks, Mar

Hello, in my installation process of my programm, sometimes I need a new user. A user which is member of 'Power User'. In the script, I create the user > net user Tester Password /add and add the user to 'Power User' >net localgroup "Power User" Tester /add This is OK. But I need this on a lot of different Windows Languages, and the groups have different names - in Germany: Hauptbenutzer, ..... With the API function - NetLocalGroupAddMembers(..., ...) I have the same problem. I saw, in a ADs example - they also work the name 'Administrators'. But I need language independent localgroup-names. So long Frank Iversen

I have a service to run an application. The service actually just uses srvany.exe to launch an application. Once it has done this the service stops leaving the application running. The service runs under a local userid. Normally, the service starts and a registry hive for the user is loaded under HKEY_USERS. When the service stops, the hive remains. One one machine, however, when the service stops the hive disappears. Does anyone know why?

Hi, I am trying to install a font on my server. When I attempt to install the font I recieve the following message. The 3OF9.TTF file is currently being used and cannot be replaced. Wait until Windows is finished using the file, and then try again. I have no applications on the machine. I got to the fonts folder where I am trying to copy the file and there is no 3OF9.TTF font in the folder. Any ideas? Thanks, Steve -- Steve Systems Administrator PSI

We have purchased software and are trying to get it running on our terminal server for remote use. It runs fine under the administrator login but we are having trouble with other user logins. The software has some settings that they say need to be set, one of which is the local policy in "User Rights Assignment". I added the user to this policy under the properties of the computer in the AD under the gpo, but to no success. So I then started gpedit.msc, but in here the security settings|local policy|User Rights Assignment has a lock next to it and I can't change the same policy setting to include this user. I guess I am trying to figure out which policy the…

Bulletin Severity Rating:Important - This important security update resolves a privately reported vulnerability. This vulnerability could allow remote code execution if an attacker sent specially crafted URL requests to a Web page hosted by Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.1 on Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2. IIS 5.1 is not part of a default install of Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take complete control of the affected system. USATODAY.com - SANTA MONICA, Calif. - Microsoft is counting on the biggest weapon in its video-game arsenal, Halo 3, to boost the Xbox 360's fortunes after the company's warranty problems. At the company's event Tuesday on the eve of the E3 video game industry convention, Bungie Studios showed the first live footage from the second sequel in the best-selling sci-fi combat series. Halo 3, which arrives in stores Sept. 25, will come in three flavors: a $60 standard edition; $70 for a limited edition with a bonus making-of disc and art book; and $130 for a limited "Legendary" edition that comes in a Spartan military helmet case. Bulletin Severity Rating:Critical - This critical security update resolves a privately reported vulnerability in implementations of Active Directory on Windows 2000 Server and Windows Server 2003 that could allow remote code execution or a denial of service condition. Attacks attempting to exploit this vulnerability would most likely result in a denial of service condition. However remote code execution could be possible. On Windows Server 2003 an attacker must have valid logon credentials to exploit this vulnerability. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take complete control of an affected system. An attacker could then install programs; view…
