PSRule: Visualize Infrastructure as Code Maturity
by Guest sambell0803- 0 replies

Introduction Continuing in our PSRule for Azure series, in today’s post, we’re going to look at visualizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) maturity. DevOps culture has brought the shift left paradigm and the practice of testing code before it’s merged. This is great, however, to review the test results you’d need to look at outputs directly in the CICD pipeline. This is easy for a centralized IaC repository (one Git repository containing templates and parameter files), but if you implement a decentralized module (published templates consumed by projects/teams in separate Git repositories) it can be quite challenging. Regardless of the repository model, the results …

Azure Stream Analytics Enhances Developer Experience with Improved Error Messaging and Logging
by Guest Anasheh_Boisvert- 0 replies

An Azure Stream Analytics job consists of three components: input, query, and output. The query itself is based on the SQL query language and can be used to easily filter, sort, aggregate, and join streaming data over periods of time. With powerful SQL query language capabilities, users can write query logics from simple pass-through scenarios to rich pattern matching and temporal analysis to calculate aggregates over various streaming time windows – and now, ASA is delivering an even better developer experience by honing in on a new and improved troubleshooting experience for users. We have significantly improved many error messages to make them self-…

Author(s): Arshad Ali is a Program Manager in Azure Synapse Customer Success Engineering (CSE) team. Introduction As a data engineer, we often get requirements to encrypt, decrypt, mask, or anonymize certain columns of data in files sitting in the data lake when preparing and transforming data with Apache Spark. The extensibility feature of Spark allows us to leverage a library which is not native to Spark. One such library is Microsoft Presidio, which provides fast identification and anonymization modules for private entities in text such as credit card numbers, names, locations, social security numbers, bitcoin wallets, US phone numbers, financial data, and …

Extremely Fast Training of Extremely Small Text Classification Models with Azure SQL
by Guest wopauli- 0 replies
In a previous blog post, we described how to fine-tune a pretrained Hugging Face transformer model for text classification at scale. We used a PyTorch dataset class for pulling data directly from a SQL database. The advantages of this approach were obvious, in comparison to loading the data into memory of the host machine at the beginning of training. First, SQL databases are almost limitless in size. That is, we don’t have to worry about the size of the dataset and whether it will fit into the memory of the compute host used and optimized for ML model training. Second, because rows of data are pulled only if they are needed, model training and evaluation can commence alm…

Azure Cosmos DB is a fully managed, serverless NoSQL database for high-performance applications of any size or scale. APIM is a API management service offering many features for manging APIs and exposing backend services. Example Use Case The example use case involves using CosmosDB to maintain a list of information and exposing the information using APIM as a public RSS feed. This will provide a user to illustrate APIM caching and transformation, and how APIM can call CosmosDB securely using managed identity. Setup The fi…

Stemming in Microsoft Graph connector search results
by Guest Bill Baer- 0 replies
What's stemming? Stemming in search means that a word is reduced to its word stem or root form. For example, ‘groups’ is reduced to ‘group’. We can then use both, the reduced form (group) and the original form (groups) to find relevant and matching documents. At the end, users are more likely to find relevant content because search can find more and potentially relevant content. For example: query terms “Window 11 supports” will also search for terms “Windows” and “support”. The recently added stemming support enables expansion to and from, singular and plural word forms. With stemming, users now get better quality results for their search querie…
