Hi i need help please. I am trying to rescue my neighbours pc but am running out of ideas on how to solve it. This is the problem:- The pc has 5 user accounts in XP Home editon. But when you get to the welcome screen, the right hand side, where the names and pictures of the users are, is blank. only one account is acessable by pressing Ctrl, alt, delete twice. When you eventually get to the desktop, everything appears to work fine except when you go into Control Panel and click on User Accounts you receive the error message "The current user account is not recognised. Hi Everyone My problem is as follows: 1. I have Fast User Switching (FUS) turned on. 2. I am logged on as user A. Someone else is logged on as B. 3. I click Start, Logoff, Switch User (or perhaps just use the Windows key + L) (or CTRL+ALT+DELETE, and then click Switch User on the Shut Down menu in Task Manager). 4. I get to the Welcome screen that shows the list of users known to the OS. 5. I click on the icon for a different user, (say) user C. 6. Instead of logging on to user C's desktop, I stay at the Welcome screen. This happens if there are two users logged onto the machine. You can switch between A and B, but any other user can'…

I have 3 hard disks, C:, D:, and G:, all SCSI. C: is my system/boot disk and is FAT32, basic. D: is NTFS, dynamic. G: is NTFS, basic. 6. I use Outlook 2003 at work which I can manage pretty well with but on my laptop has Outlook 2002 and within it I am pretty much lost. I managed to create and import a few .pst files from work onto my laptop. The problem is that each import created new entries for all appointments and contacts. I do not see an option during import to replace entries with imported information. Now I have a bunch of redundant entries in Contacts and the Calendar in the Outlook 2002 on my laptop. The .pst I create from work is complete and up to date, so what I would like to do is delete all entries on the laptop but I don't see how to do that in Outlook 2002. Any suggestions? T…

Hello. I have a new Dell P4 (3.0 ghz, 1 gig ram, (2) 160 SATA hds, ATI X600 Pro video card w/256MB Ram, Canopus ADVC 300 converter, M-Audio Firewire 410 1394 audio I/O, Intel MB) Doing A/V production with Sony Vegas (video) & Cubase SX (audio), I noticed some timing skips and noticed that the CPU would intermittenly spike to 100%. I tried playing a MIDI file with no plugins added with the same result. This would also happen from Vegas's timeline. Prior to purchasing the P4 all my work was done on a PIII 800 w/ 512 ram. This system runs like a charm still, but the ram is maxxed out, thus the new PC purchase. I started looking on the Net and found some info about…

Had a corrupted profile, so made a new user id (different name) and followed microsofts instructions to transfer emails and addresses to new profile. Made sure it showed local rather than "temp" user. After transferring everything deleted old profile. When the system rebooted all information was not saved and the profile shows as if it were a newly created one. How can I make sure all my information ...emails, favourites etc are saved when the system reboots and all information doesn't disappear. Thanks for the help...

I installed XP Home on my laptop and duly activated it within a couple of days after checking that all the drivers etc were working ok. The past few days I have started receiving the warning notice that XP needs to be activated. The first day, I ignored this, but the past few days with the countdown continuing I decided it would be best to reactivate. I select the activate now option, and am taken to a page where I get the message "this software is already activated". I then tried a manual activation and again got the same message. The question is, in four days time is my software going to cease working, what can I do.

I'm using a GPRS modem which I have got working for other fax softwares like Symantec and MightyFax. I was able to establish a connection but was not able to send or receive. I can hear the ringing sound from the remote fax machine I was dialing but no fax was received there. Error message is "An error occurred while sending/receiving fax". For Win2000, I was only able to send but even then, the fax was not clear. Help appreciated. Thanks.

Hello Everyone, I have an old P166 Gataway that I left in the basement for about 10 month after I bought a new PC. Last week, I hooked up it again hoping to find an old file I had. It did not start and asked for the start up disk. When I start it with the Win 98 start up disk, I got a error message saying that the hard drive is not partitioned (no FAT32). I was able to run SCANDISK.exe for drive C from the MS-DOs prompt and it said no errow was detected. Could any one help me as what to do next so I could recover some of the files I had in the old machine? Thanks

  24. im really curious to see what you guys think, maybe you could settle a big argument in my household. With an internet cable modem connection that is a shared bandwith, how much does this shared bandwith affect internet gaming such as online poker? does opening a browser for normal internet activities(not downloading huge files) while playing online increase your chances of having your game bogged down? With a shared bandwith is it safe to say that in order for my connection to slow down to the point where gaming connections are affected everyone in my neighborhood would have to be online downloading huge files? any opinions are appreciated thanks!
