Hi, I used my DAV drive to backup my system. Recently I installed a movie creation program which includes the gear security utility. Immediately thereafter, I was no longer able to use my backup program, nor any other as Drive E is now "inaccessible". I have tried uninstalling the program AND gear security however even after uninstalling and reinstalling my DVD drive, I can't use it for backing up. It seems obvious that gear security modified some setting in Windows, but I have no idea which one, so can't reset it. How do I fix it? Restore was inadvertently turned off, so that isn't an option. Thanks! Sue

I need to know how to disable the "map network" selection in WINDOWS XP and be able to map drives as administrator only for regular users. Now you must be logged in as the user to map the drive. This allows the user to access any network drive at any time. Thanks for any help.

Good afternoon. I'm not quite sure where to ask this question, so any direction provided would be greatly appreciated. We run a Server 2003 R2 environment that contains a SQL Server 2000 database. A VB front end using MS Access Runtine 2003 runs over the database. Users intermittently lose connection to the db (an ODBC Call Fail) and the "hungapp" shows up in the Event Log as the following: Error Report Contents: C:\DOCUME~1\user\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERff8a2.dir00\msaccess.exe.mdmp C:\DOCUME~1\user\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERf8a2.dir00\appcompat.txt The sever event event logs do not contain any errors or warnings that cannot be accounted for and the ODBC Call fails h…

I am in a unique situation with this system. It is a new Dell with no PS/2 ports and is all USB. After installing the latest Intel chipset drivers, on next boot no USB device would work. I see over the network looking at its device manager in read-only mode that all USB Host Controllers have yellow bangs saying that the drivers are missing or corrupted. The kicker is that if you can't use a keyboard or mouse to access the system, how do you redo the driver installation. (They don't work in Safe Mode either). Thanks -- An Engineer asks "How does it work" A Scientists asks "Why does it work?" A liberal arts major asks "Do you want fries with that?"

Mighty Gurus, I have two win2003 servers. One hosts a web browser that gets PDF files from a reporting server. Previously the reporting server was W2k and the service which created the PDF ran under a user/pass that was identical to one on the W2k3 web server. After upgrading the reporting server to W2k3, I find that this 'trick' no longer works. (You use the same trick in connecting an SQL server to a web server on different machines, if they are both W2k or less.) This is either a security enhancement or a configuration setting. Anyone know of a work-around? Thanks Harry

I have some users who use Excel a lot . When they created a file and save it on to the file server(windows 2003) close up . Then go back to it later it comes up as read-only if they then close the readonly file then open it up again it works fine. This started to show up only when using vista. If the same user goes to an xp machine and does the same steps it works fine. Has anyone else ran acorss this at all ?

When I installed a Creative Webcam, Zonealarm gave me a message that Flashjester jugglor engine was trying to monitor activity on my computer. I denied it but the webcam would not install. I then allowed it and since my computer has been sending out up to ten times the data received from the Internet. If I go to Flashjester.com there are no instructions to uninstall this program. It's not in the add/remove list. I can kill it in Zonealarm program control but that has not changed anything. I have scanned for a virus and spyware but have not found anything. I think I have been hacked. I may have to zero-fill format my hardrive and start over. Does anybody have a c…

This patch is being offered to Windows 2000 Professional SP4 through Windows Update even though the O/S is listed under Non-Affected Software. However the two affected files, ntdsa.dll and sp3res.dll, are present in the system directories. Should the KB document be ignored and the patch applied?
