When I try to hide the icons in the taskbar tray, I can't make changes. I pull up the list of icons, click on the down arrow to the right of the desired action and the drop down list of actions doesn't drop down. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Hi, I have a home network with 3 computers (2 with vista, one with XP) and one xbox, all connected through a router (netgear, all wired except one vista machine that is wireless). Until yesterday, everything worked ok. I then reinstalled vista on one of my machines, and since then, both of my vista machines are incapable of stable internet browsing. The simptoms are : 1. I can get to google or any google site (like gmail) - no problem. 2. 95% of other sites, IE just loads and loads the page ("waiting for ....") and nothing happens. The header of the IE window does sometimes change to the title of the web site, which means I am getting some data back, but the…

I installed Windows XP Professional and after everything loaded I couldn't get the computer to recognize my keyboard or mouse. The computer recognizes them during initial start up but once windows starts it's as if they're disconnected. Any ideas?

I resently installed Vista 64Bit O.S. The install went smothly and every thing works well. Then I recived three separat updates. Two went off with out a hitch. The third one installed all but the update for the Windows Media Format 11 SDK ( KB9293990). After about seven attempts by the auto updater I tracked the update down through the knowledge base and manualy downloaded and installed it on to my computer. This manual update went of without a hitch. The one thing I noticed when installing the update was differance in the lenth of the names for the update, it was much shorter than the auto updater called out. If anyone else has this problem they may have…

Today I was installing Windows XP Home on a friends computer at work and had so many issues with updates that I don't even know where to start. The biggest of my problems was the inability to download and install SP2. During the verification of download process it somehow fails. The following is the error message I got: "Error Code: 0x8007005 Error_Access_Denied" I'm not sure what the heck that means. From what I've been hearing I'm not the only one having problems getting updates from Microsoft. Other errors I had today include: "Update: KB901214" - This just failed to download Install of KB924191 failed. KB832483 - Failed download security update for …

Running Vista Prem, have Brother MFC-665CW connected on wireless LAN. Everything works fine except when I try to scan from printer/scanner. Will not allow connection to PC unless I turn off Windows Firewall. Have already tried to allow every printer related program through the exceptions tab but still will not allow to connect. Any ideas on what I have to allow through the exceptions to be able to make it work with the firewall on? Thanks.

Addicition to Ubuntu is an insideous and dangerous disease that plagues the fringes of our society, threatening more and more every day to spill over the fringe and flood the common man with free stuff. But the vigilant and upright citizens of the world can rest assured the warning signs are easy to spot once you know what to look for. Ubuntu addicts exhibit many strange habits for working professional such as: Owning computers for ten or more years with out complaining of the computer "slowing down"! Expanding IT operations at staggering rates with little to no capital or credit! Carrying around hand labelled "live CD's" that they claim aren't pir…

Friend of mine is having a wierd problem with his CD drive. 1. If he puts a game CD or DVD in, the game starts. 2. If he puts a movie DVD, the movie plays. 3. If he inserts a music (Bought, not made) CD or a picture (made) CD in and when he explores the disk, it brings up blank explorer window. Also, the drive lable never changes from "DVD-RAM Drive (D:)". 4. If he inserts his Recovery Disk in, it comes up blank, also. He has already replaced his drive, and it is doing the same thing. I've tried everything I know (updating drivers, un-installing drivers, etc) with no luck. He really doesn't want to re-install windows. Any other suggestions out ther…

When loading sidewinder precision pro on my new XP computer, software 3.0 contains incompatable drivers. Going into control panel then game controller and selecting the sidewinder autodetect option, the popup "your gameport or gameport drivers are not properly configured. Please contact the device manager" appears. I understand that software 4.0 is needed but do not know how to get it. Suggestions? Thanks. Ash

After having let Windows XP Home 2002 SP2 do its automatic updates, I am no longer able to have my laptop enter into hibernation mode. I get the following message: The service 'Microsoft .NET Framework v1.1.4322 Update' is preventing the machine from entering hibernation. Try stopping this service and try again. How do I solve it? Or if not, what can I stop in the Windows Task Manager?

I have a batch file which is a simple xcopy of files from a workstation running xp pro to an nt server on our domain. Every time the batch file is run, the file copy fails with "access denied". If the user on the same workstation simply uses explorer and highlights and drags the files to the server, it works just file. I have given the user full rights to the folder she is copying to but I am assuming I am missing something in giving her rights to copy by using a batch file. Any way to solve this apparently simple problem. The user on the xp workstation is logged in as a user on our nt domain. I would like the batch file to work as I am not sure I would t…
