XP Keeps Resuming Failing Install

I have an IBM/Lenovo X31 (XP Pro) and a LaCie external CD/DVD drive. Recently, I bought a mobile phone/PDA (an XDA from O2) which runs Windows Mobile 5. But when I attempted to install the software from the "Getting Started" disk, things went wrong. The installer told me I needed to install "Active Sync", and asked me whether I first wanted to install Outlook so that it would synchronise addresses and so forth. I said Yes, and away it went. But then Outlook installation failed: it went slower and slower, with longer and longer pauses between accesses to the CD, until it stopped altogether. But the moment I re-booted, it resumed the installation, with no…

Can surf the web, can't ping
by Guest rodriguez- 0 replies

Hi, I can surf the web, FTP works, but I can't ping. I pinged the loopback address and it worked fine. I can't ping my remote SQL Server database or sites that I know for fact have servers that don't reject pinging. DNS works fine. Why I care? Well, I'm a bit confused (don't know the importance of the pinging issue, but..) - I have a DotNetNuke installation on my ISP. Uploading the file system from my ISP into MS Visual Studio 2005 Express through FTP works, but it takes about 10 minutes to bring up all the files for my project. When I try to build the solution, basically it hangs and doesn't do anything, though it says at the bottom part of the Visua…

Occasionnal startup problems
by Guest alain lebel- 0 replies

From time to time (3 times in one year : december 2006, january and july 2007) my computer won't start. It is an ACER w/ Intel Duo w/ Windows XP SP2, manufactured in early 2006. The first two times, when I switched it on, it stayed on the first screen (the ACER screen) and didn't show the windows loading screen. I had to switch off manually (cut the power) and when I reestablished the power, the computer restarted directly, apparently from the point where it had stopped. (the second time I noted that I had switch on the printer at the same time as the computer - they are on the same plug). The third time was different, at startup the computer displayed the d…

A friend and I were discussing the state of software adoption yesterday. Our kids were floating down a river toward us, and we had plenty of time to talk about our respective companies as the kids kept repeating the trip. It struck both of us that the problem with enterprise software is that it tends to forget how people actually work. Things like CRM, ECM, etc., tend to require users to change their normal behavior to fit the application. As a result, they tend to not get used, or at least not unless someone threatens to withhold compensation. In the Web 2.0 world, Tim O'Reilly has spent the last few years advocating "architectures of participation" (meaning…

User get pop up window, telling him that \\server\......\Mydocument can not be access, but than user can work with that file normally offline. But if it clicks on different document, it will wait another ten minutes. User has no problem with txt files, only files that he open with MSoffice… If user work online, there is no problem. Domain Cached Credentials Lost After Resume From Hibernate
by Guest dnfertitta@yahoo.com- 0 replies

My boss is working out of town and he was logging into his laptop using his domain cached credentials. This was working fine until his laptop went into hibernation mode. After that, he tried to login with the same password at the "Locked" screen and it is not allowing him. I had this issue last week with someone else and we gave up until he simply got back. When he plugged back into the network, he logged into the domain and his credentials were once again cached properly. What would cause this, and is there a way to fix my boss now? I'd love it if he could get into his domain profile while away. How can I prevent this from happening again? This seems to be…

new problems with malware
by Guest sgopus- 0 replies

Just an FYI, there is a new issue on the internet with malware, it can easily bypass ZA firewall and install itself without asking, it's a holstic dialer, I found it with Spy bot search and destroy, so I guess I'll have to boost up my security measures, my old router/firewall died and I hadn't gotten a new one yet, guess I'll have to raise the priority on that.

Problems Copying Files From An External Drive Connected Via USB
by Guest surteeja1- 0 replies

Hello, First time on this forum so please be gentle......... My wife has purchased a Tom Tom One SatNav which uses a 256Mb SD card for the application and all of the associated files that it needs. Basically whenever I connect it to my PC using USB port and try and do a backup, load updates or just plain old copy files, it seems to corrupt the SD card requiring me to formt it. Problem is my PC won't let me format it (says it can't complete the format) and I have to resort to using my work laptop to do it. It's a bit strange because I have a TomTom Go 910 and I can update that, copy files etc perfectly using USB. Same with my Canon Ixus digital camers that…

by Guest corbomite- 0 replies

This is a beta application still, so its kinda experimental, and only for Windows in English... But its nice to see that there may be a way to transfer all your apps without needing to reinstall them from scratch! Windows Easy Transfer Companion is a Microsoft application that enables you to automatically transfer your most important programs from your Windows XP-based PC to your new Windows Vista-based PC. The software will move more than 100 of the most popular programs, as well as many others that you may have installed. You have complete control over selecting which programs to transfer, so only the programs you care about will move. The software will al…

I have been trying to do it with vista but it seem that they have programed it for one card one location so we have to buy more. If I find away I will let you know.
