I'm running a five button wired Intellimouse Optical mouse using Kensington Mouseworks software on W2K. I've done this for years (mostly on 98SE) and it's a very nice setup - virtually bug free and much better than Microsoft's Intellipoint software. But lately I've developed a problem which at least so far I can't correct. For some reason, despite my user settings to the contrary, the mouse automatically moves the pointer to the default setting in a dialog box. The user setting under Mouse in the control panel - which is set to disallow this behavior - appears to be reflected in the registry setting as best I can tell. The only computer events I can think of th…

Hi, Please bear with me while I try my best to explain. I have an issue with a PC where I open (or any account) the printer pref box. Down the left side of the pref box is a picture of the printer which gets updated when you add/remove trays and other options. When I open this box on my (working) PC the actual options (copies, sided etc.) start about 1cm to the right of the picture and all options fit within the pref box. Now when I open this on the PC with the issue, the options start about 4cm away from the pic to the right and because of this, 3cm's of options on the right just get cut off the edge of the pref box. Sorry that is as best as I can put…

I work for a county library system as an administrator that has 28 branches in multiple locations within the county with multiple subnets. We have just acquired office-training videos that we are to make available to the public and I am looking into the best way to do this. On Friday, I did a test installation of streaming media server on a 2003 server box but did not have much time to look at it. So my question is what would be the best way to make these videos available on the public PCs all running XP pro across multiple subnets without sapping all of our bandwidth. I cannot setup a server at each location. The files are wmv. and quite large. Thanks in adva…

Anybody know what George Lazar's solution to KB928366's problems will do to a development box? One with an IIS server and Visual Studio 2003 and 2005 installed. Seems to me that all this uninstalling and reinstalling will break a dev box. Did someone try this on a dev box? I'd like to hear the result.

WinXp sp2 Hi I'm trying to install an epson printer on my new pc but i'm getting an error saying "The specified color profile is invalid" I've also tried the other halfs epson printer, and it still gives the same error! The both printer do work on xp sp2 systems as is the case that they have been working on the other halfs o/s just fine. I've been hours on this and installed a color settings tab to go into control panel from microsoft w/update site, which also installed "microsoft.net framework 1.1" ...also the hotfix. but to no avail. Can someone please advise. -- Regards p.mc

Since my v1.1 section of Net framework updated successfully I couldn't see why it was necessary to uninstall everything so I just uninstalled Net 2 with Add Remove The Windows update still listed the patch as necessary even though I had uninstalled so I double checked the Windows/Software distribution folder and deleted any reference to a net download. Changed the AU (autoupdate configuration) to be warn only. Downloaded the cleanup utility, installed and it did not display Net 2 Downloaded both the original Net 2 and the patch to save on hard drive Installed Net2 and patch- rebooted and all logs reported successful installation. Went to Windows Update …

files are appearing twice in the search box and in Windows Media player: they can be deleted from the library, but on deletion from the computer, the "other copy" won't play. to clarify: a single file exists but is appearing twice, only in WMP and in the search box. What could be causing this?
