Windows Security Center - Alerts
by Guest thecreator- 0 replies

Hi All, If you have set Windows Security Center to alert you when your Anti-virus program is turned off and it is off when I booted up the computer, it alerts me that Anti-Virus is off. Anti-Virus is McAfee VirusScan 10.0.27 Problem is, after you turn on your Anti-Virus program and have it start up at boot, Windows Security Center is still reporting that my Anti-Virus program is turned off, when it is running. Is there a way to force Windows Security Center to rescan, rather than to reboot the computer, everytime? -- thecreator

offline synch not working
by Guest e-John- 0 replies
I have a problem with offline folder synchronization, which worked under XP, and is not working with Vista. My network folder is on a network server in a SBS2003 domain. No problems accessing the folder and its documents. When I enable offline sychroniztion, I get hundreds of error messages (one for each file) in the Synch Results panel, saying, "the system cannot fine the path specified," and no synchronization occurs. Huh? Not sure what to do, as I can find the path without any problem. Thoughts ?

Hello all: I know that with Windows Server 2003 you can simply add additional architectures to install 64-bit printer drivers when you have a 32-bit server system and 64-bit clients. However, is there a way to do this with Windows 2000 Server? There is not selection available for WinXP 64-bit. Thanks, John

Hi all, I need to download all the updates and save them somewhere and then install on differnet servers, rather then downloading on each server. I have Windows 2003 SP1 and ISA 2006 running. Is there a way I can do that rather then running Automatic updates as it just installs on single Server? Thanks in Advance A

by Guest Fabien- 0 replies

Hello, I know bootvis is no longer public but I don't want to use it for the optimization system, I want the boot time details. Does anyone know where I can find a piece of software, if there is no bootvis for x64, that could tell me at least how long takes my computer to boot. I have already thought about a watch but it's not accurate enough for my purpose ^^ Thanks. Regards, Fabien

I am using XP Pro SP2 with all updates. I have the Powertoy "Calculator Plus" installed. It worked fine. I installed a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 and now the calculator will work and then just stop working. In other words, I will start performing calculations and then it will quit responding to keystrokes or mouse clicks. I don't know that this is related to the keyboard but Any ideas? The standard calculator with Windows still works fine. Bob

offline files sync problem coming out of hibernation
by Guest ccfut- 0 replies

I have an XP PRo computer connected to a Win 2000 domain, with offline files configured (My Documents and Desktop). Both folders are redirected and Available Offline. This is setup in a GPO and works fine. Except I have one Sony VAIO laptop that has a problem synchronizing offline files when coming out of Hibernation. The user hibernates her PC, then comes into the office plugs it in and brings it out of hibernation. The system aquires a new IP address and can get on the internet. But the little blue and white computer icon down by the clock keeps telling her she needs to sync her offline files. If she double clicks this icon and starts a sync, then…

file system corrupt & "device disappeared" error
by Guest Pete- 0 replies

I had a windows no boot problem which I was able to correct with chkdsk /r from recovery console. In event viewer I found four errors that seem significant: 1st error, 1 occurrence about 3 months ago: "The device 'WDC WD16 00JS-00MHB0 SCSI Disk Device' disappeared from the system without first being prepared for removal." 2nd error, several occurrences over 3 month span: "An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk0\D during a paging operation. " 3rd error, coincides with 2nd error: "The device, \Device\Scsi\viasraid1, did not respond within the timeout period." 4th (final and fatal) error, 1 occurence: "The file system structure on the disk is c…

Max read performance on WinXP
by Guest Sandman- 0 replies

I've been tasked with setting up a network of WinXP clients. They're dual core desktops from Dell with 2GB RAM. They will be reading files over the network (CIFS), processing them and writing them back to the network drive. The files are large (400MB) and the reads will be sequential. Network is GbE. Assuming no server bottlenecks, how fast can I expect the WinXP clients to run? I realize best case is 400/125 ~ 4 seconds per file. But I have to wonder if the client can read that fast. Has anyone here run performance benchmarks of large file reads? Thanks, Sandman

Error 0x80072F78

Hello, I was having the above mentioned error message for the longest time, tried all fixes suggested by members of this newsgroup and, in the end, found out that the problem had to do with my ethernet D-Link 260 modem (is no longer supported by the company so I can't get any help from them). I isolated the problem after connecting a spare USB modem to my DSL line - the D-Link 180U. So, definitely the ethernet modem is timing out during Windows Update due to the way it is configured. The problem is that I need the D-Link 260 modem because I have VoIP and it is ethernet based. Could someone help me fix/configure the D-Link 260 modem so I can get my …

Hi, I have read the post concerning wireless problems and am not sure my situation has been covered. I recently downloaded an external mobile wireless internet connection. Once installed it clashed with my home wireless connection. Although I have uninstalled the moble wireless, I am unable to connect to my home wireless without a card. This is also true with my other laptop which is also windows xp. Please advise. -- blksheba
