Hi All, Forgive me for asking a Windows 2003 server (SP2) question on this site, but I think you guys may know the answer. In Control Panel, Automatic Updates, I have a blue link called "Windows Update Web Site". If I click on it, nothing happens. Anyone know how to fix this? Many thanks, -T Other symptoms that may or may not have anything to do with this: 1) If I manually do to "http://www.update.microsoft.com/ microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us" and press "Express", it runs and runs and runs. Never stops (let run 20 hours as a test) 2) The yellow shield in my task bar for installing updates always takes me through the install (ex…

I thought I would start a new thread as i lost the plot in my old one. IE7 closes suddenly when clicking a link in my daughters uni website "monash university studies online" (we are having trouble with some other websites as well) It is not the link as I can access it from my work PC and other students are having no problems I have cleared the cache, lowered security settings, run anti viral and malware scans (AVG 7.5, ad aware and superantispyware) I discovered that we could access the link with add ons disabled so I enabled them one by one with no success It doesnt suit her to access with addons diabled though because we need the java for full functionality.…

I have two Server Standard 2003 R2 SP1 Domain Controllers. Lets say one Domain is xyz.com and the other lab.xyz.com. Full names: adminserver.xys.com and labserver.lab.xyz.com. A trust relationship flows from adminserver to labserver, but not the other way around. WINS was initially put on adminserver, then I started having errors that made me believe I needed WINS on labserver. Now both have WINS. DHCP exists only on adminserver and handles both domains. So...in the DHCP scopes do I make adminserver the Primary WINS and labserver Secondary? Does it matter? All the lab computer will wind up using adminserver as Primary WINS. Or should I install DHCP …

To Whom It May Concern : I've encountered svchost.exe application error of follows: 'The instruction at "0x77deada7" referenced memory at "0x77deada7". The memory could not be written and ask me to Click on OK to terminate the program Click on CANCEL to debug the program If I press ok, sometimes my computer freezes, and I have to force turn off. Sometimes it works but there will be no audio sound on DVD , CD or MSN . If I neither press ok nor cancel(like right now) I'm able to do everything(I think) that I normally do. ' How to solve the matter? Please advice ! Any help will be deeply appreciated. Thank you. email address : kenkang1122@hotmail.com …

I thought I would start a new thread as I was getting lost with to much info in my other thread. I have now adjusted IE7 settings as previously advised,(lowered security, cleared cache etc etc) run anti-virus,malware scans with AVG, ad aware and superantispyware As a test, I downloaded firefox to see if I could get into the link within my daughters uni website, and firefox closed unexpectantly when clicking on the link too. (I can get in this link with my PC at work, so its not the link, and fellow students are not having problems accessing it) so maybe the problem is not in the browser? any thoughts anyone?

This is the message I receive, and I see fixes for DCOM, but none that show same symptoms as I am experiencing. Error in error log: DCOM got error "%1058" attempting to start the service hpqddsvc with arguments "" in order to run the server: {2C82180E-8C3C-4A1B-B EB1-B9140713E701} If there is a fix for this I sure would appreciate the link or help you can give. Thank you very much. Cheryl

I have a dial-up ISDN connection (Speedtouch modem). When starting up the system my modem initialises, and after some seconds, starts to flikker its right LED. Then comes the user-login, which I enter as an administrator. My modem goes on flikkering, but when I ask to start the dial-up, is says: "no dial tone". When I wait a twenty minutes, it all stops by itselves flikkering and returns into a stable LED. Starting up the dial-up is OK, I don't have any troubles the long of the session. I suspect that there is a program, routine (no virus I hope) that executes 'something' and waits for a reply or something else. As it happens before the user-login, I cannot see w…

Everybody, and Anybody, HELP!! I've been plagued with Errors [Runtime, MSIMN.exe, "Unexplained", etc.] slow-downs, and crashes for weeks. Running Windows 200-Professional, w/IE6, OE6, and receiving MS/Windows Automatic Updates. I've hunted to no avail to download real MS Anti-V/Anti-Spy Programs that will work on my "LOWLY Win2000". Last night, and into the early A.M., I tried several "Third-Party" set-ups for this type of program. One said that I was infested with dozens (no exageration) of Viruses[virii ?], Trojan Horses, etc. which could only be contained and erraticated with thier "Full" purchased pack. I tried to UNinstall that from my PC, a…

So about a week ago this problem started. Mid-update the computer stopped functioning due to a power outtage and now this thing is FUBAR! Windows update loads, but closes a second later, and when I manually download the updates from the site, the installation says that it doesn't work and is not needed. When I go into devmgmt.msc there is no hardware detected. I have no sound, no battery display for this laptop I'm surprised the keyboard and screen are still working... for now. -- Too nerdy to be a geek Too geeky to care
