I have to set the standby timeout value of the system to 10 minutes. To achieve this, I have created a custom power scheme with the required power settings and have set this power scheme as the active one using PowerCfg.exe. Powercfg.exe sets the power scheme for the current user. Please let me know how can I make All Users have the same power scheme. Thanks, Kansana

Processor utilization on Multi Processor Servers
by Guest Riaan de Bruyn- 0 replies

Hi All I've noticed that processes which would normally fully utilizes processors like winzip or winrar etc. only utilizes the capacity of one (1) CPU in a Multi Processor environment via Terminal Services. If you log on to the console of a Terminal Services server, the process will use all CPU's to almost 100% utilization. But through a terminal services session it seems to be limited to use only one CPU. Is this by design or is there a workaround / configuration to all a single process to use more CPU power if available in terminal services? Kind Regards

DHCP: unable to add a reservation
by Guest Oliver- 0 replies

Something's got wrong by adding a new DHCP reservation: - the reservation is currently not shown - neither the IP address nor the MAC address is shown in view “Active Leases†- when I try to repeat the reservation, I get the error “An error occurred while accessing the DHCP database. Look at the DHCP server event log for more information on this error. - on DHCP server event log is nothing related logged. - the client gets no address by booting or ipconfig /renew. - event log of the client has logged first, that the requested IP address is currently in use by another client (warning). After rebooting a lot of DHCPNACK’s are logged. - I did a backup of t…

Re: Question about SIMM and DIMM combination in an old computer - UPDATE
by Guest thanatoid- 0 replies

Thank you VERY much to all who replied (quite extensively in some cases) to my post and have helped me solve the problem. WARNING: A long and boring description of what I did follows between the two rows of asterisks. ***** I had no idea whatsoever that DIMMs ran on 3.3 or 5V. I have had the 4 16MB SIMMs since the day I got the computer. Of course, my DIMM does not say which voltage it likes, but I read on one site that it really couldn't damage anything if the voltage was wrong ("couldn't damage" meaning, I suppose, AOT just screwing everything up). So the first thing I checked was the voltage jumpers, and they were set to 3.3V. The 64MB DIMM was in t…

Quicktime reverting Vista to 16-bit Windows Vista Basic theme
by Guest afairjudgement@gmail.com- 0 replies
- 122 views
So I think what caused this to happen is from my regretful attempt to get some of the old Myst games working *Myst masterpiece edition + Riven), and this HAD to install the old version of QT that they used (can't remember version number). Now since then, whenever I go to do anything involving quicktime, it set my Vista theme to Vista Basic and as soon as I close it, it reverts back to the Aero theme. Not sure what to look for...I've uninstalled all versions of Quicktime then reinstalled from the web installer. Maybe I need some sort of registry cleaner but I don't trust many of em. Just need some suggestions...thanks

Program borders
by Guest Steve- 0 replies

Some of my programs open with a blue border on the right side, about a quarter inch in from the edge. Can't drag over to fill screen, looks like there's some sorta large tab there. Is this one of the Appearance items somewhere? -- Whenever I dwell for any length of time on my own shortcomings, they gradually begin to seem mild, harmless, rather engaging little things, not at all like the staring defects in other people's characters. ....Margaret Halsey

What can I do to view the Greek in Yahoo Calendar ( Windows XP Home ) IE7/SP2 ? There is some background to this . I go to the IE7 toolbar and into Tools>Internet Options>Fonts and when I try to press "apply" ( after selecting the Greek Fonts in seems that it is FIXED on the present Latin font . Startup Script Does Not Execute
by Guest Scott Nielson- 0 replies

We are using pushprinterconnections.exe as a computer startup script to push printers out to workstations. It is listed as the startup script in a GPO that has a bunch of printers also deployed to it. The GPO is linked and enabled to an OU containing a bunch of workstations. It had been working, until a few weeks ago. Now when I run "gpresult /v" on a workstation I get this little snippet concerning the policy: Startup Scripts --------------- GPO: SLCT-Printers-CSENG Name: pushprinterconnections.exe Parameters: -log LastExecuted: This script has not yet been executed. This tells me the script is not running, but does not tell me why. Does a…

Vista hangs at welcome screen (or changing password screen) forever
by Guest hpcustomer@gmail.com- 0 replies

Vista is logging onto a SBS 2k3 domain. When it comes time to change the password the password is changed however Vista hangs at either the 'changing password' screen, or the 'welcome' screen forever, i have waited 30 minutes with no results. I know the password has changed cause I can logon elsewhere. If I power off and reboot I will not be able to logon unless I use a different user like Administrator. The only solution I have found is unplug the nic, power up, logon (with new password (and it works)), then plug in the nic and reboot. I don't see any glaring errors in any eventlog. This happens every 90 days, to every vista user. This happens on 3 differ…
