Trend Micro Crashed Vista
by Guest The Sand- 0 replies

Vista can run "Trend Micro AntiVirus plus AntiSpyware" (or so they say...) but NOT "Trend Micro AntiSpyware" by itself. I recieved this information (via heated phone call) of course too late. Their website does not state this clearly at all and they haven't as of yet changed it. I actually like Trend Micro AntiSpyware (it's on my XP) and I've been running it for years... that's why I wanted it on Vista but I feel they were TOTALLY missleading on their website about what is and what is NOT running on Vista. Just want other people to hopefully avoid a $59.. 6 HOUR Microsoft "tech help" call. -- The Sand

TECHNET EVAL to PRODUCTION USE WITHOUT Reinstallation (technet user!)

TECHNET EVAL to PRODUCTION USE WITHOUT Reinstallation (technet user!) I built a 2003 Server using my technet 2003r2 Server evaluation copy. I would like to make this a production server now. I'm in the process of purchasing a new copy of (open value )Server 2003r2 and would like to use this license without having to rebuild the server. Is there a process to apply the new license I purchased to the existing evaluation copy? I intend to use the Exchanage server 2007 as well. Thank you

Installing Server 2008 in an existing 2003 forest
by Guest Net Admin- 0 replies

Forest: Windows 2003 functional level. I just installed Server 2008 beta 3 on a test server and it is a member of the domain. I would like to make it a DC but am told I would have to run Adprep/Forestprep. Is this safe yet? I know I should use a test environment but we do not have the resources for that. I have 12 DCs and two domains.

WinXP SP2. Running fine one moment, then started receiving the above error when trying to run programs. Rebooted, and seemed OK up to the user icon screen. Select a user and again appears normal upto the loaded "tune". After a short while hear the "Dong" (problem sound). No user programs load. Can access the Task Manager via CTRL/ALT/DEL, which shows "System" and "Network" processes running. Only taskmgr.exe and explorer.exe show as user processes. Can open Windows Explorer via Start menu or desktop icon and can navigate through all folders and see all files, just cannot execute anything. Tried a google from my other machines and posts abound, but many t…

Add Network Drive in a Workgroup
by Guest George Hester- 0 replies

Hi. My Windows XP Professional SP2 has been removed from a domain. I have set it to be a member of a Workgroup called just that. The other systems in this Workgroup are Windows 2000 Professional SP4. On the Windows XP machine I can easily make a Network drive to a drive on the W2K maching through the Add a Network Drive Wizard say for the root //MYMACHINE/c$. But on the Windows 2000 machine I get a prompt for a Network Password when I use the Add Network Drive Wizard on it which I do not know. If I set sharing on the Windows XP machine to share a drive then in Computers Near Me on the W2K machine I see the drive I shared. But I would prefer to use the Add N…

My Recent Documents
by Guest Danny Smith- 0 replies

Hi folks, Each week I empty the list of My Recent Documents (just to keep things clear and organised) but then I find that thereafter whenever I open a document (such as a Word document, image file etc.) it doesn't appear on the My Recent Documents list - as if I didn't even open it - it just says it's empty. I've found a workaround, and that is to go to C:\Documents and Settings\JohnDoe\Recent, go to Properties, Security tab, and manually add my username to the permissions with Full Control, but the next week when I empty the list I have to do it again. Does anyone know of any way to 'fix it' so that I don't have to keep following that process every time I …

I have loaded Vista on my Dell laptop and all works fine except the bubbles screensaver. Instead of the bubbles floating over the desktop it changes to a white background with the bubbles floating around. Is there some way I can get the desktop to show in the screensaver? Any help appreciated. -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com

shadow drive recovery
by Guest Signal_Redman- 0 replies

I'm new to WIN.VISTA. I was setting up auto back-up to a DVD-R disk. I accidentally ran a back-up to my D: drive (7GB) on my system and it filled up the D: with a back-up. I want to remove the back-up from the shadow drive but it says if I delete information from the shadow drive I may not be able to restore my systems information if I later need to do a recovery action. My question, Is it okay to delete the back-up files and will my previous show files remain in tact.
