Suddenly, Internet Explorer 6 on Win2K Pro won't browse to any SSL webpage. Administrator accounts can access SSL pages, but non-administrator accounts get the IE "page not found" error. I've recently had to fix corrupt user accounts, and these accounts are the ones that can't access SSL pages. Firefox can access SSL pages fine. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Pat

I have a Microsoft Optical Mouse (in fact it happens on more than one type of Microsoft USB mouse) that connects and disconnects from the USB port intermittently. I will go to move the cursor and the computer will ding with the SUB Device disconnect and then it will ding with the USB device connect. Sometimes it will do it several times in a row. Someimtes I have to disconnect the USB connector and reinsert it to get it working again. this occurs on all USB ports on the latop, several mice, and I have moved the harddrive to another laptop and the problem moves with it.

Hello: We recently installed Win 2003 Server SP2 on a server that we primarily use for RIS. RIS was upgraded to WDS with SP2 according to the instructions released by Microsoft (http://technet2.microsoft.com/ WindowsVista/en/library/9e197135-6711-4c20-bfad-fc80fc2151301033.mspx? mfr=true). We have configured WDS exactly as this documentation describes. Microsoft failed to include any instructions on how to upgrade RIS images to WDS. After some reading we determined how to do this. Currently this is where we ran in to a roadblock. When we try to convert our old RIS images to WIM images, the process goes through until the very end of the progress bar, it s…

I recently upgraded my pc from a P4 with h/t to a pentium 840ee. I am running windows xp sp2. Now I am experiencing a degrade in system performance. Hardware manager is showing the acpi multi-processor and system resources shows the four threads. I didnt reinstall windows when I did the upgrade. Could this be my problem? Is there anyway to fix this without reinstalling windows? Thank you in advance.

Is there a way to get the Computers Near Me to appear in Windows Explorer the way it does in Windows 2000 in Windows XP. According to this site: http://www.vsubhash.com/writeups/winxptips.asp in the Logon section they suggest using the same method as shown here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/257902/en-us But as you can see this is specific to Windows 2000 and it doesn't work in Windows XP. Any other ideas? Thanks. -- George Hester ________________________________

I just sent my first fax from Vista Fax and Scan. Then, after I created a Parent Folder called Fax in Documents and after Fax and Scan created the sent folder, I dropped in all 2,000 plus faxes into that same folder. I know that I have the right folder because the first sent fax is there. However, I want to be able to see these older faxes from XP in the Sent Folder in Fax and Scan, but it is only seeing the first one. In XP, this was simple, I would drop in the older faxes into the default send folder and as soon as I started up Fax again, all the older faxes would show up with Subject, To, Created date, Pages, etc... And this was all searchable.

I've recently converted a physical windows 2003 box to a VM using VMware's ESX converter utility. So far, all is functioning the same on the Virtual server. The warning I experience is after I configure the IP address on the virtual NIC within the VM (matching that of the old physical server), a warning dialog box pops up stating that "There is another network card with the same address that is NO LONGER attached to the system.... there may be problems if both adapters become active." After clicking ok, all is functioning well and I have network connectivity. I would like to remove the old hardware NIC reference from the registry to avoid this message …

I have been trying to get Explorer (not IE) to save the size of certain windows but they don't stay around for long. As an example when I open Control Panel I would like it to be full screen but no consistancy. This was a problem with XP originally where you had to edit the registry to get it to save more info (desktop.ini I think). anyone have any ideas why this is happening?? thanks

When using the Windows Update site, what is scanned to determine missing patches? Is the scan searching the registry to determine installed patches or is the scan actually checking file versions to determine if a patch is needed. The reason I ask is because our security scanning tool is only checking the registry for installed patches. Our desktop staff says the list of missing patches is incorrect because the way they are installing patches isn’t making the registry entries (SMS packages or something like that) Thanks

Hello, I'm using the package builder that is on the Windows server 2000 CD to create MSI packages for programs that do not have them. I have created an image of a computer that just has the Operating System. I actually have 2 one for XP and one for Vista. My question is this: Each time I create a package do I need to start over (i.e. with just the OS) to do further packages or can I just move forward from that point (i.e. create the first package, then the second, etc without using a clean system? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rich

I am running XP Pro, about a week ago (no new programs added) my computer would start freezing up sometimes but not always which makes it even more confusing. Yesterday I scheduled a Disk Cleanup for 3am. When I booted the notebook this morning an error message said, " task did not execute at sheduled time ... Task Scheduler not running." I went to run and entered cleamgr.exe, and pressed enter. The program executed. Then I went to Services and found that Task Scheduler had started automatically. I wonder, why didn't Disk Cleanup run last night? I went to the properties page for Disk Cleanup and found it was enable to start at a specified time. The scheduled time was 3:12am daily to begin 7/23/2007; the Power Management setting was "Wake the computer to run this task." I wonder what could be preventing Task Sche…
