Error installing Panda Internet Security 2008
by Guest Kaiser- 0 replies

I recently re-installed my Windows Vista 64-bit system, but when I try to re-install my Panda Internet Security 2008, it displays an error on the installation screen which says: Feature Transfer Error Feature: NT Component: ResidenteFicherosNTPAV File: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\PAV Error: Access is denied This did not happen on my last Vista installation which was also 64-bit, and I was wondering what is going on? I am the administrator of this computer and I should have access to install this, I don't understand, and light on this would be nicely appreciated. Thanks

Boot fails--at end of splash screen
by Guest jt3- 0 replies

Need some ideas. XP Pro (OEM) SP2 rebooted after applying June updates, and then downloading July's--some suggestion of a problem when unable to properly disable Spybot's TeaTimer, just before. Upon restart, goes through splash screen, possibly for the usual length of time, but screen goes black, everything else unresponsive, save for reset. BIOS interface suggests everything normal, except, perhaps, CPU temp--40 deg C (Athlon 64 3200, Gigabyte GA K8NS pro mbd, WD 74G Raptor SATA boot drive, 250 G SATA Maxtor storage drive) but that's not high enough, considering ambient is around 80 deg F, to be likely the problem. Upon attempted reboot, XP recognizes b…

Vista vs. Palm Quick Install -- I need a guru!!!
by Guest HenryE- 0 replies

Palm OS 5.x, Treo 650 Windows Vista Home Premium Core Duo Laptop Palm software worked perfectly on this Vista laptop, with fast Bluetooth HotSync and no problems at all, but suddenly: Cannot drag & drop a .prc file from desktop to the Quick Install display. I get a circle with diagonal bar. When I double-click any .prc file on the desktop, I get "Windows cannot find (then it names the file and the correct location). Be sure you typed it correctly..." The association of prc and pdb files with Quick Install is correct. There appear to be no other problems. And for those familiar with Vista, problem persists with UAC off. I can stick the S…

Program fails with "Cannot initialize folders"
by Guest John Olbert- 0 replies

I use a web search program called Copernic Agent Professional on Vista Ultimate. Up unto Friday it worked without error. On Friday I installed a number of updates from the Microsoft update site for Vista. After the updates the program failed to start with the error "Cannot initialize folders". Multiple reboots, uninstalls/installs failed to solve the problem. I tried a Restore to a previous point on Vista but the Restore failed. I manually (one by one) removed all the updates made on 7/13/07 and rebooted the computer. The program still fails. Also performed uninstall/re-installs. Still fails. I used a debugger and found that the dialog box with th…

WinXP: Help and Support issue
by Guest C J.- 0 replies

Okay... On my girlfriends PC, when opening help and support sometimes, and filling in the search bar, and clicking the arrow... she'll get a Search Results box w/ three items appearing on left side of screen. 1. Suggested Topics, 2. Full-text search Matches, and 3. Microsoft Knowledge Base. Just now, I typed in Format to see what she's complaining about. Search Results shows: Suggested topics 15 results, Full-text search matches 15 results, Microsoft Knowledge Base shows 0 results. For a topic as critical as Formatting, you'd think MSKB would show X number of results, on top of the 30 already shown above it right? Now - typing in KB article n…

6 Months Later, a Report Card on Vista
by Guest 98 Guy- 0 replies

I wonder why Vista's aggressive digital rights management wasn't mentioned in this story. I like this point: "Everybody wants there to be a repeat of Windows 98 - the excitement, the sales volume, the rate of growth and everything else" said Michael Cherry, an analyst for the independent research group Directions on Microsoft. " Yea, and I bet they'd like to be able to repeat the relative security that Win-98 gave to users vs that abomination known as XP. As expected, MS will spend very little to advertise or market Vista, since it will come by default on new systems because people will have no choice. It will take 5 years before it reaches …

Hi I have posted on this before but did not get a solution to my problem. I am running Vista Ultimate. I have a Logitech mouse, and when I go to Control Panel and alter the speed that the curser moves across the screen it only woks until I reboot, then it is back to the default setting, how do I get it to keep the setting I change to? I have been recommended to update the driver but there is no Vista driver on the Logitech site, it is installed by Vista. Any help suggestions appreciated. thanks Daniel

Recycle bin - interesting problems
by Guest JR- 0 replies

After a recent crashed install of norton systemworks, completely lost the recycle bin - probably from a lot of manually deleted registry entries. Couldn't use the registry backup just before the install as it would not ''find'' the keyboard (even though device present). ugh? Could create shortcut to re/bin but showed as hidden and could be edited.... Went through earlier registry and exported all the keys relating to th re/bin on the desktop (namespace and the clsid entries) and imported to current registry. Now have desktop re/bin back with full and proper function. However, do NOT have same in explorer view. For example, rename desktop re/bin t…

I just started getting this error message recently. Running Vista Home Premium. This morning, I selected about 2GB of files to copy from one Explorer window open on my local hard drive and dragged them to another Explorer window which was open on an external hard drive. I started getting this error message on several files. After just clicking on OK each time, I closed the source explorer and then everything copied with no more error messages. > > "Bruce" wrote: > > > I am running Vista Ultimate (with a clean install rather than upgrade.) > > > > Quite often, when I use Windows Explorer to copy a group of files to a &…

DVDMaker results distorted
by Guest ETruss- 0 replies

I have two 25 minute-long MPGs that I want to write to a DVD so I can play them in my DVD player. I add them to DVDMaker and add a menu. Everything looks fine in the preview. I burn the disc. When I play the disc, I can see everything but the picture is completely covered with a green checkerboard pattern. Can anyone give me any hints on what to do to fix this? This is something I used to do under Windows XP using Pinnacle Studio 9 with no problem. Unfortunately, Studio 9 no longer works with Vista and I don't want to pay for an upgrade to a much bigger program that might not work either.
