Disaster Recovery Backup

Hi, I'm starting to plan our disaster recovery plan for our 2000 and 2003 servers and beside backing up the System State and making a ERD disks for each servers, having daily backups of the data, what else should I consider? I thought about backing up the C:\ drive so that we don't have to re-install all the applications. (System state, Program Files / WINNT and any other required folders been backed up at the sames time.) Would that allow a full restoration of a server with this? Am I missing anything else? Then I can move on to planning each application and what's the longest we can go wthout it and how long to restore from scratch or to troubleshoot. …

Please help!!!!

Hello, I am having a problem watching Big Brother past full episodes from the CBS web site on my notebook & desktop computer. I think it has to do with some kind of settings. I use to be able to watch them fine before I had a problem with my router on my notebook computer. When my notebook computer was connecting to the internet through a wireless connection the video worked great. But my desktop could not play them. The video will come up and start to buffer then play. It will only play a few seconds then the video stops and I get the message the video is buffering. It just keeps doing that every few seconds and makes it impossible to watch the vi…

Mastered DVD is missing files
by Guest Dave Nuttall- 0 replies

When you initiate a Mastered DVD burn (by right click and Send to / DVD drive) a balloon appears in the notification area almost immediately. The text reads: "You have files waiting to be burned to disk. To see these files now, click this balloon". At this point you may have several more minutes to wait before all the files are collected for the burn, but if you click on the balloon and then click on "Burn to disk", the burn starts immediately with whatever files have been collected. I would suggest that the burn be delayed until all of the files selected in the "Send to" are collected. This would also allow the burn to be initiated without having…

solidworks and antivirus conflicts?
by Guest Ann- 0 replies

Okay, this is an annoying problem. I built a new machine with an Intel Core2 Duo and Intel 965 board, 8gb ram, nvidia quadro fx560 and xp pro x64. Our company runs Solidworks, COSMOSWorks. The install was standard and I installed all the updates. The only thing I had a problem with is finding a functional audio driver which isn't a problem because this machine doesn't need audio to do what it was built to do. I got all the other drivers working just fine and just disabled the audio. I set it up on our domain and installed Solidworks Premium and COSMOSWorks. After it is all installed, I run the program and open up an assembly. It opens, WOW, super f…

system cannot log on domain not available

I have reformatted my c: drive and re-installed Windows XP Home. After the installation was finished, I tried to log on for the first time, but got this error message " you cannot log on for the domain NAME is not available" - or words to that effect, my system in not in English. Googling on the subject took me to a microsoft TechNote that talked about changing the security policy. Only, I cannot change anything, for I cannot log on, can't get in at all. Note: the owner of the computer used to be called OLDNAME. I now used NAME. I did not think changing the name would matter, as I reformatted the hd. Can someone help me to get into the system? Thanks. --…

Mapped NT share randomly disconnects.
by Guest Joseph K.- 0 replies

I have a user with a Windows XP Pro (SP2+) laptop that is having a problem keeping a shared folder on an NT4 server mapped. It randomly disconnects. We can't seem to figure out a way to either get it to reconnect or permanently stay connected. When he tries to access the mapped drive, he either gets the message that the drive (Z:) is already in use or he gets a prompt to enter in his user credential (and then a subsequent message indicating that that user is already authenticated). We're in a Server 2003 environment and the customer is authenticating to the domain without any problem. He is mapping the network drive with the "reconnect at logon" option set.…

Can anyone tell me how I prevent the large, semi-transparent icon that shows when I drag a file or folder using the Windows Vista theme. I find it irritating and of no value. Just the name will do fine - the same as you get when using Windows Classic. I'm running Vist Home Premium TIA Ed

PDC Emulator FSMO role transition
by Guest Alan- 0 replies

Due to network upgrade our DC with the PDC emulator role will need to transition the FSMO role to a DC in another site. My question is this, will this: 1) Break the 2 way trusts established for legacy domains? 2) Can WINS be simply pointed to the other site for name resolution? 3) Are there any other caveats that I am overlooking. Any input is greatly appreciated. Alan

hopw can i restore oritinal windows update
by Guest FPS- 0 replies

when i originally got windows update on my new vista computer, it searched for updates to the OS (Vista) only. i then configured it (i don't remember how) to search for updates to Office. i would like to eliminate the updates to Office either by (1) deselecting the recommended updates and tell it not to ask again (the boxes are checked again each time and it's annoying), or (2) restore to the original Updates configuration so that it only searches for updates to Vista. Does anyone know how to do this? I've been searching and searching with no success. Thanks.
