New to WDS.. Moving from RIS.. Please Help.
by Guest Robert R Kircher, Jr.- 0 replies

My current deployment method has been RIS. I have 4 images which install any PC I put on the network. Some have PXE network cards other need the use of a PXE floppy. It all works great. If there are driver changes I just change the $OEM$ folders and update the SIF file. Perfect. All of this is running on a single Server AD environment. This server runs AD, DHCP, DNS, WINS et al. Well now I've updated to SP2 and installed WDS and nothing works. My PXE boots give me a message about no boot image found and I'm getting a WDServer error, Event ID 769 and 770 in my event log. I'm very frustrated that what once worked flawlessly now is useless. Can anyone…

Caching Settings
by Guest Shawn P- 0 replies

I have a W2K SP 4 server set up as a file server to store roaming profiles. The past admins did not ensure the "Allow caching of files in this shared folder" check mark was cleared. This has caused profile issues for our users and we end up rebuilding the profile. Is there a registry setting that would ensure caching was disabled when a new folder was created and/or ensure caching is not allowed on exisitng folders? Any other ideas on how to turn off this feature without touching each folder? Please let me know if you need further info to help me out! TIA

Vista Roaming Profiles
by Guest Luke Chalmers- 0 replies

Hello, In a domian environment, it seems that Vista takes on a completely different roaming profile then XP. This is userprofile.V2. The headache of this when moving users from XP to Vista is that all their settings are lost and that I have to manually move things such as favourites and desktop items across to their V2 profile. Has Microsoft not given any useful sync tool on this?? I was wondering how people have managed to tackle this problem and to discuss ideas?? Many thanks, Luke

Outlook 2003 100% CPU
by Guest ISX- 0 replies

Hello, I recently got a 500GB Seagate ST3500630AS. I got a primary a partition 35GB (vista will go on it later!), it's empty, an extended partition takes up the rest of the drive. In it a 40GB partition with XP on it & 2x 200GB Partitions. The disk it's self seems rather slow when I want stuff & CPU usage fluctuates & then dies off & things are ok! If I change a folder with videos to thumbnail view the system chokes till it's completed. No idea why it does this. It's running on a Sata II port, I've limited the disk to 150 no change so I've left it on 300. All my drivers, firmware are up to date. My biggest problem is when Outlook 2003 opens. C…
