How to read minidump file.
by Guest Plasticman- 0 replies

Hi, I am attempting to read a minidump file and it says I have loaded the wrong symbols. I have downloaded the correct symbols from the Microsoft website and installed them. In the debugger I point to the symbol path but no matter what I symbols I point to after I run the debugger it says that my symbols are incorrect. I guess I need some instructions on how to use the debugger. I tried the knowledge base and attempted to do what it recommended but had no luck. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Steve -- Steve Systems Administrator PSI

Set dual-monitor layout (placement) and resolution from command line?
by Guest ajkessel- 0 replies

I posted this earlier inquiry <http://tinyurl.com/26wvsn> regarding lost monitor settings across reboots but got no replies. Here's a question about a different approach: Is there any way to set the relative positions of dual-head monitors and the resolution of each from the command line (i.e., with a batch file)? If I can't get Windows to remember my monitor settings across reboots, I'd at least like to be able to run a quick batch file to reset my settings. Is there some way to do this?

[PLEASE EXCUSE THIS CROSS POSTING - I THINK I POSTED INTO AN INCORRECT GROUP EARLIER...!] My WindowXP almost completely has given up the ability to search. Help! It seems to ignore whatever I put into "All or part of the file name:". (e.g. "*.*" or "html" or "doc" ...} all yeild no results. Strangely however if I enter something into the "A word or phrase in the file:" (e.g. "the", then I get lots of results, AND they are filtered by whatever I have put into the "All or part of the file name:" field I am using Windows XP Professional SP2, with all the latest patches. I am also using Internet Explorer v7. Any suggestions? Ship …

I noticed that I am not happy that when Windows Updates or OneCare updates have completed and restart machine. Vista Ultmate allows to auto logon administrator or administrators group. How do I prevent that if I am away from computer and during updates and restart itself without auto logon itself? It would serious exploit to unauthorisation access by any users. I checked Regedit that there is no autologon. How did Vista automatically log on itself? Much appreciation if you could help please?

ODBC Servername reverts to old servername once I click OK
by Guest Aaron J- 0 replies

Hi All, We're currently experiencing some issues with ODBC connectivity in Windows 2003. Basically when I define an OBDC String for example for SQL Server and populate the following details as follows: Select System DSN Click Add Select SQL Server Enter Name, Description and Servername e.g. SQLSERVER01 Then select TCPIP Test Connection OK Then after a couple of hours the SQL Servername loses the SQLSERVER01 and reverts back to the previous Servername of the above DSN Previously used and deleted. i.e. Servername reverts to: OLDSERVER in ODBC. Thanks in advance, Aaron Jumani.

Hi Folks Query relating to the "everyone group (Pre Windows 20000)." We have a Windows 2003 domain which was upgraded from Windows NT 4.0. I am aware under windows 2003 that the membership of the everyone was changed so that it no longer contains the token for anonymous. It seems that newly created users are no longer automatically added to the everyone group but they are added to the "domain users" group. However the "everyone" group is still the default group set on permissiosn tabs (Shares ETC) Question: So is it best practice to 1) Manally add all individual domain users to the "Everyone Group" 2) Clear all users from the "Everyone G…

Sudden appearance of "It's now safe to turn off your computer"
by Guest will_456- 0 replies

My XP installation is suddenly not shutting down the computer completely when I shut down Windows. I ends with the message "It's now safe to turn off your computer" but I can't turn it off except by holding the power button in for 5 seconds which surely can't be the right way to do it. Somethings gone wrong because when I try to run Vista upgrade I get a message saying the computer doesn't have suitable power mangement control (or something similar and I should update my BIOS). The installation wont continue from within windows. But if I install Vista as a clean installation on the same computer (different partition) I get no such error and installation compl…
